President Edgar Lungu has directed Patriotic Front members to stop commenting on tribalism.
PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya has told Journalists that the President’s directive is in order that the ruling party is not construed to be peddling tribalism.
Father Bwalya has emphasized that this does not mean that the ruling party is peddling tribalism in the country.
He has since appealed to PF members especially senior party members to heed the presidential directive.
And President Lungu has hinted on the need for the country to legislate against tribalism and hate speech in future.
Speaking to Journalists before departure for Namibia at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this morning, President Lungu said tribal talk and hate speech should be banished.
He expressed concern with the hate speech and tribal talk being peddled in the country.
President Lungu says hate speech and tribalism have led to civil strife and genocide in some countries in Africa.
The Head of State has flown to Namibia to attend the African Union Committee of ten heads of state meeting.

Cap 87, Section 70(1) of the laws of Zambia states that: “Any person who utters any words or publishes any writing expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for any person or group of persons wholly or mainly because of his or their race, tribe, place of origin or colour is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years.”. So what is Lungu talking about by claiming that he will bring legislation to tackle hate speech and tribalism when such a law already exists? Is he this ignorant? These Presidential Directives are not New on Media headlines. The question then is “‘will they heed to his (President) directive? We have heard many of such directives before but have they worked? The President is a weak soldier. One would have expected him to at least punish (Fire) those peddling Tribalism to show us and the whole world that he is serious with his so called DIRECTIVES. He recently directed ZESCO to reduce tariffs did it work? He dirceted mining companies NOT to send thousands of pipo to the streets did it work? The List is endless. What a Sham of a President?

Tribal politics is responsible for the mess Zambia is into today, if only Zambians were sensible about electing leaders with credentials Zambia would be economically well. Clueless president. Cap 87, Section 70(1) of the laws of Zambia already criminalizes hate speech. What kind of lawyer or is it dancer is Lungu? If anything he should have fired these people a long time ago than this last minute attempt to patch up things. Lungu is the weakest and most compromised president Zambia has ever had. The presidency is too heavy for him. The man cannot make tough decisions demanded of this post even if it simply requires firing a deputy minister.

But tongas/upnd supporters are very selfish people. They can’t/ will never accept any wrong doing. I have seen the comments here. They are only condemning kambwili and a few others for pointing out the truth forgeting that they breath and live the same vice. Problem is that they want the whole country to live by their rules and whims. ECL should have also emphasized that this vice should be outlawed everywhere including workplaces especially southern province regardless of who is involved. It’s a shame that the president who happens to be a lawyer has no idea that the law he signed already crimimalises hate speech. He probably didn’t read it but signed with his eyes closed as he earlier suggested. Since now he has realised his tribal ploy has backfired, he needs to concentrate on the looming food shortages that have been forecasted for the year.

When a non Tonga becomes president of UPND, the party will have no support from Tongaz. Tongaz will flock to a different party which will have a Tonga as a leader.
