Mali coach Djibril Drame has hailed Zambia’s performance at the ongoing 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.
Zambia booked a place in the quarter-finals after winning Group D with seven points from three games.
Zambia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 and Uganda with the same score-line before they were held to a goalless draw by Mali in the final Group D match in Kigali.
Drame believes George Lwandamina’s side can progress beyond the quarter-finals.
“Zambia is a very good team and they have good tactics,” Drame said.
“If they continue with the same spirit and keep improving they have a bright a future in the days to come,” he said.
Zambia is now preparing to face Guinea in Sunday’s fourth quarter-final match in Rubavu.

The Mali coach is a good man, Zambia didn’t play well at all against Mali. Its like we were happy to settle for a draw! Every game counts for our FIFA rating. We can win if we improve. Im not yet convinced that the team is good. The individual players like Katongo, Muntali, Chansa and the Goalkeeper (Banda) were brilliant in the first two matches. The game against Mali was terrible. We were kicking the ball in every direction without any solid coordination or tactical skills. I still maintain, we need an International coach with proven skills.
The one thing I hate the most with Zambian style of playing is those long high balls!!! Start building from defense, use wingers and midfield and then create real chances for strikers. Not those long balls from defense to the opponent’s side…
….To make it worse, the Zambian players were so short (Except for Muntali) compared to Mali defenders and we lost almost all the high balls each time. Common sense should have told the coach to change the attack strategy.

WE HAVE GOOD TACTICS…I M SURE MALI WOULD HAVE BEATEN US CLEAN GAME IF WE PLAYED OUR USUAL GAME…THEY ARE FAST & HEAVY SO THE BEST WE COULD DO IS PACK MIDFIELDERS PLAY LONG BALLS TO INVITE THEM , CUT THEIR SUPPLY PLAY LONG ONES , SO THAT WE CAN CATCH THEM SLEEPING !
