Government has dispelled reports that the contractors engaged to upgrade the 169 kilometers Solwezi -Chingola road have abandoned the project.

Local Government Deputy Minister, Dawson Kafwaya says contrary to the reports, works on the road linking the North Western Province to the rest of the country are still on course.

Mr. Kafwaya has further assured the Nation that the Solwezi-Chingola road will be commissioned by June 2017.

The local Government Deputy Minister said pictures on social media suggesting that no traffic is getting in or out of the North Western province due to the dilapidated state of the road are malicious.

Mr Kafwaya who has inspected the on-going road works said all the three contractors engaged for the project are on site.

He has told ZNBC News in an interview in Solwezi yesterday that 14 percent of the upgrade of the K1 billion road has been done.

Meanwhile, Buildcon construction one of the firms engaged to work on 40 kilometers stretch has finished installing a $2 million asphalt plant.

Buildon Project Engineer Luthar Babo has assured Government that the road works will now advance following the installation of the asphalt plant.

  1. There is poor workmanship on that road, especially at that stretch where a local contractor ( buildcon) is based. Kafwaya you must learn to tell the truth. Which works are progressing well? Even the detour for buildcon is total nonsense. It is that same road which will help pf to be kicked out if you don’t know.

  2. SINKAMBA WISDOM – The road is very bad tear and wear on vehicles is very high. The road is a risk to transporters of heavy goods. So deputy minister be honest to yourself and the nation.. I was on that road last of last week.

  3. Some one is in utopia!!! Last week I almost donated my miserable being on that stretch Buildcon is deconstructing and here comes a supporter of this work.

  4. Pipo lets sober when we complain we all that in rain season contructors reduce the works on projects. Which contructor can start putting gravel or cement on roads this time.please even if u hate pf and lungu give space for work to on.
Otherwise to me lungu is the best for nwp reasons~
*hh will be the worst option bcos he will make sure to do more to lp,np,mp,cb,to show that he is not tribal this was done by mwanawasa he nothing to nwp apart from lumwana general hosp but built a nice bridge across luapula river.
*lungu has shown love & willing to develop nwp
The is bad but give space wait for rain to go then assess then complain.

    • My friend the rains have just become heavy in January. what has been done since the contract was awarded…No stretch has been completed, nothing! all the equipment is doing now is pulling truck getting stuck in the detours.

    • JK,for your information, the stretch being done by chine Geo is far much better than what Buildcon is doing.Same road, two contractors but as usual pathetic works from the zambian contractor.

  5. There has not been any works from as far back as November, I have driven on this road three times from November and the situation is getting worse and worse on the detours… the contractors only starts the machines when there is news that the minister is visiting…Br Dawson the truth will set you free.
