Celebrated Zambian Hip-hop Artiste Slap D has appealed fellow musicians threatening to boycott this year’s award ceremony to relax.
Slap D says the musicians need to be learn to be humble to the finger that feeds them.
He said musicians should not expect to be paid huge amounts of money at an awards ceremony because the ceremony is merely for honour and recognition.
Slap D’s comments follows a decision by a group of influential Zambian musicians who have demanded that this year’s show be held outside Lusaka and the prize money be increased to not less than K15,000.

Truth is you can’t make money off an award show. It’s all for recognition and appreciation of hard work put in. Win or lose an award show motivates legendary, upcoming and persistent artists. And to involve the major sponsor in the name of ‘promoters’ is just BS. Who knows what their next investment in the industry could be? How many organisations in Zambia would pump in so much into music? They would rather sponsor sport regardless of how rubbish it is because of their professionalism.
In the years I’ve been in this game, I have learnt that to be big you need to be humble to the finger that feeds you. Now I know some will ask ‘but Slap you did the same ku Trade Fair? Well the difference is I was being asked to go and perform not to be honored or recognised for my hard work. Also, the money was meant for me to feed, accommodate and provide logistics for my entire team. For those that don’t know ZMAs will pay 3/4 bands for you to pick from and provide you with the finest set to walk or perform on (if you are nominated). A nomination to me means you are already in the winning circle.
Lastly this whole copper belt Lusaka trash being biased and what not is pure BS! Haven’t you all seen the copper belt people win awards? Last year the CB gang stole the show! Nominations are on, stop complaining and get you act right. You middle class artists copying and pasting what you don’t know might just be killing a ‘make’ opportunity for yourselves. The money comes after the glory
If the ZMAs do invite me even as a spectator, I am going dressed in a shiny suit just to piss you off. I have 9 of those, you could learn something
MR Kuichaila you are the one who should just kuichailaa and shut up. Do you know the cost of travelling from the copperbelt, lodging, meals etc just for the awards. The Kopala swag has asked for interchanging of venues also. Its not just about the money. You yourself refused to perform for K 3000 but you want your friends to travel for similar amounts
Thank-you. Zambian musicians should be thankful to ZB for even paying them a dime. Like I said in an earlier post, these sorry excuses for musicians have no work ethic. They turn up for rehearsal late and drank or never at all. Their music is useless and unauthentic compared to musicians past. If you think the Grammy’s would allow a musician or presenter on stage without rehearsal, think again.
Remember you get out what you put in.
These bad singers should first start by boycotting all ZB products Mosi and Castle and the like if they are serious.
Then maybe they can produce better music as sober people.

Slap d is one artist that has been benefiting from such events compared to other artists, that’s why he isn’t getting ‘his act right’.
Couldn’t care less. Apart from a chosen few making authentic Zambian music, the rest are copy paste. He is right, though. Sponsors, please spend that money on sports.
Slap D’s reasoning on these awards is better than Macky 2’s. I am not a fan of their music but I appreciate the reasoning exhibited by Slap D on this matter.

Slap is correct ZB is doing these guys a favour and they are complaining. If the company said this is more trouble than its worth what are they going do. There is nothing compelling ZB to do this show. Maybe these characters can tell us how much someone gets for winning a Grammy or an Oscar.
You hit the nail on the head. You dont get paid for winning an oscar or grammy. You earn money thru record sells, concerts and airplay.
@punani Jackson , that’s how a man shud reason, And for copperbelt artists they should just send one person to represent and collect the awards on behalf of them all. instead of wasting cash on traveling and accommodations

Comment: am not supporting anyone but the controversy wic Dizzo is tryin to say is true, tho it doesn’t favor artistes who r not from LSK like frank speaking… In summing up ZB should thnk abot it and change the venues even once kopala 4lyf.
