Wanderers opens league campaign at Forest

Share

Mufulira Wanderers on Sunday kick-off their 2016 Super Division season with a delayed Week One match against Forest Rangers away at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Nine-time Super Division champions Wanderers must brace themselves for a tougher season after an impressive return to the top flight league following a ten-year hiatus in the 2015 season when they finished fifth.

Last season Wanderers beat Forest home and away.

“It is a new season and all things should be new but it would be a tough game,” Forest coach Kaunda Simonda said.

Wanderers coach Manfred Chabinga said he is expecting stiffer competition this term.

“People were shocked with the way we performed last season. They didn’t take us seriously but now they are more conscious of who we are. I think it will be tougher,” Chabinga said.

Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes face Green Eagles away in Choma in another delayed Week One tie scheduled for Sunday.

Buffaloes trainer Bilton Musonda wants his side to rebound from Wednesday’s 1-0 Charity Shield final loss to Power Dynamos in Lusaka.

“We are targeting to win that game and collect maximum points,” Musonda said.
