NGOCC CONDEMNS STRIPPING OF GIRL DURING YOUTH DAY

The Non Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) condemns in the strongest terms the violence and the stripping naked of an opposition girl by cadres of the Patriotic Front (PF) at the Freedom Statue on Saturday, 12th March 2016 during the commemoration of the International Youth Day.

The act by the ruling party cadres to undress the girl in public is not only criminal but barbaric and evil only reminiscent in lawless societies. It is despicable, that youths from the ruling party can conduct themselves in such a barbaric manner.

As an organization we have been made aware of a video clip, that is even circulating on social media, depicting this very sad incidence with identifiable ‘criminals’. We therefore call upon the Zambia police to immediately arrest the culprits who undressed the young girl in public. The conduct of the PF cadres to undress a woman in public is the highest level of indignity ever shown to women in the country. Nothing justifies such barbaric conduct against a fellow human being.

Zambia is a democratic country where all citizens are free to belong to any political grouping without any intimidation. The behavior of the cadres to undress an opposition member just because she is dressed in her party regalia is unconstitutional and we expect the leadership of the party to act against these cadres.

NGOCC therefore demands an apology from the PF over this very sad incident. As we go to the elections on 11th August, there is need for civility from both the opposition and the ruling party.

As an organization we will not allow any of the political parties to abuse women and insult them in the manner the PF cadres behaved on Saturday 12th March 2016.

  1. When UPND forms government this year, they must institute a commission of inquiry to investigate atrocities committed by the PF and the PF directed Zambia Police. Information or evidence to this effect is there in the Police “Force” itself, in the compounds, in the media, and in the general public. All Police IGs, Commissioners or bosses, including their officers, Paramilitary Police, PF cadres, PF leaders, and Civil Servants who have been involved in these atrocities of attacking innocent citizens of the country and the opposition must be tried and if found guilty, the law must take its course. This must be done without fail to set a precedence for the future and to ensure that there shall never again rise a vandalistic and barbaric party like the PF in this country. The commission…

    • Well said. We want all those police bosses first. We want them on trial for watching and abaiting PF violence and lies.

    • I think we need a truth and reconciliation commission. We need to know who is organizing the PF thugs, who is ordering the Police, who is gagging ZNBC and other public media?

    • PF should be banned just the way the Muslim Brotherhood were banned in Egypt. PF should be banned for fascist tendencies. PF is putting the security of the country at risk and systematically upending the rule of law and creating chaos. If PF are allowed to continue with their nastiness, Zambia will be like Somalia by August. That’s why
      #ChagwaMustFall

    • Agree have a civil campaign of naming and shaming them. Blow up their pictures let the world know these savages

  2. Perhaps ED and his ‘mother of the nation’ should speak up and tell us how they would feel if that was their daughter…

    • Ahhhhh You are talking about the “MOTHER OF ALL LIARS” or rather the “LIAR OF ALL MOTHERS”,
I bet she will come out & say something as weird as this: that the young women was probably drunk & undressed herself – i.e. Inonge for you!!

      #CHAGWAMUSTFALL!!

Vote wisely 11/8/2016!! Vote UPND!! A party that will respect citizens no matter what color, creed or village they hail from!!

      Abantu Baya!! Zambia Forward!!!

      I thank you!

  3. Watching those clips on Muvi TV where the police brutally and ruthlessly beat up two youths and also children scampering in all directions on youth day reminded one of scenes from ‘Mandela’. Surely, why are we Zambians , the model of successful democracy in Africa allow this sudden nose dive? Come voting day, let us all do the right thing and erase this blip from our history.

  4. I am sure the women’s lobby queen is very happy, rhe way she was happy when some defiler was released! She will only realise the evil of such wen it occurs to someone close to her! Money can confuse morals

  5. Well said Rachael. Yes we need apology from PF , especially from Changwa and from Inonge who was at the celebrations. but we need more than an apology. we need the cadres arrested & imprisoned for at least a year. we need the policemen who were just watching to be suspended for 3 months with half payment. but knowing PF police, they won’t do anything. If PF fails to act, we will get UPND to act after 8/11. Zambia is not Somalia where we can allow lawlessness to flurish

  6. Violence of all forms must be condemned in no uncertain terms by all peace loving and well meaning Zambians. Worse still violence against a girl child MUST be condemned in the strongest terms. What happened to this young girl is unfortunate and MUST NEVER be condoned in our society particularly in a so called Christian Nation. This is absurd and appalling. May God arise and save us from this kind of brutality.
