ENERGY and Water Development Minister Dora Siliya has urged the people of Southern Province to denounce the United Party for National Development (UPND) for its continued practice of regional politics and violence.
Speaking when she featured on a Special Programme on Young Generation FM Radio Station (YGFM) in Choma on Tuesday, Ms Siliya said the people of Southern province were tired of the regional politics and want to also work in government.
Ms Siliya said that UPND has for a long time been championing regional politics and it was high time that the people of this area changed their mind set.
She said the continued violence that had been experienced in the area was a result of the UPND because the party had embraced violence through its Mapatizya formula.
“ The people of Southern Province are tired of regional politics and want their children to be serving in government, and they want to be associating with the country than regional politics,” she said.
She accused the UPND of wanting to isolate the province from the rest of the country because of its regional politics.
She said all the previous leaders that the ruled the country have had in the past served the government in various capacities in government, and labour movement but was not the case for the UPND leader.
She has since called on the UPND leader to leave his position and allow the other people in the party to take over the running of the party.
But when contacted for a comment UPND spokesperson Chris Kakoma urged the Energy Minister to give solutions to the load shedding and the fuel problems.
“ She should not waste time to talk about regionalism but let her give us a solutions to the load shedding and fuel crisis, as she is the Energy Minister,” he said.
