Zesco plot to disconnect Green Eagles

Share

After qualifying to the CAF Champions League group stage, Zesco United now turn their attention to the business of defending the FAZ Super Division title.

With no Champions League football until June 17, Zesco start to play catch-up with five games in hand heading into the Week 7 fixtures.

Zesco travel to third from bottom Green Eagles where they have not won since May, 2012 when they picked up a 2-0 away victory in Choma.

Last season, Zesco drew 2-2 away and lost 3-1 there in 2014.

Zesco will be banking on the form of striker Idris Mbombo who has seven competitive goals, four of the in the Champions League and two in local league action.

Zesco have maximum 6 points from two matches played in 9th place and ten points behind leaders Nkana who take the weekend off.

Nkana were due to play Zanaco but the team is on its way back from Tunisia where they were eliminated from Confederation cup on Tuesday by Stade Gabesien.

In the weekends other main fixture, Nakambala Leopards hope to move within four points of Nkana if they can beat Lusaka Tigers away in Lusaka on Saturday.

Nakambala and Tigers are tied on 9 points in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Patrick Phiri’s side is enjoying a great start to the season and are also unbeaten from all their opening fives matches with a game in hand.
