Lusaka Tigers frustrate Zesco

Share

Zesco United’s winless draight was extended to four straight games on Sunday after they were held to a 0-0 home draw by promoted Lusaka Tigers at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The result came three days after Zesco suffered their first league defeat of the 2016 season when Forest Rangers beat them 1-0 at the same venue in a Ndola derby away fixture.

Zesco were frustrated from picking up their first win since downing Miufulira Blackpool 5-0 at Levy on April 30 thanks to the heroics of Tigers’ goalkeeper Bob Kasua.

Kasua denied Jesse Were, Ayo Oluwafemi and Cletus Chama sure chances in the 19th, 29th and 44th minutes respectively.

Zesco could have won it at the death but Kasua saved Maybin Mwaba’s 88th minute header.

A minute later referee Milton Mweemba erased Kondwani Mtonga’s goal for an infringement on Kasua.

Zesco are now 3rd on 18 points, two behind Nkana.

Meanwhile, in the lunchtime kickoff at the same venue, Forest Rangers recovery under new coach Patrick Phiri continued when they beat winless and bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool 1-0.

Ronald Chibwe’s goal in the 41st minute settled matters in this match but Forest were reduced to ten men in the 74th minute following veteran defender James Kachinga.

This was also Phiri’s second win in as many games in charge.

  1. Mmmmmm…. ati Tiger tanaka, team yaku Matero. Wow, the league is becoming more and more interesting. The more they are frustrated the more confused they become and before they know it its our 13th league title. Go Nkana go.
