PRESIDENT Lungu is today expected in Chilanga to receive some senior United Party for National Development officials defecting to the Patriotic Front (PF).
PF deputy secretary-general Mumbi Phiri said in an interview yesterday that President Lungu is expected to receive notable UPND officials who will join the ruling party ahead of the August 11 general elections.
And President Lungu yesterday gave Kitwe soccer fans a surprise memorable weekend after paying for their entry to watch a Super Division Week 10 derby between Nkana and Power Dynamos at Nkana Stadium.
The President, who watched the match, urged Zambians to support the local league to supplement the efforts the Football Association of Zambia is making to accelerate the development of the sport.
Lungu said supporting the local league could help clubs to increase their revenue from gate takings to effectively meet their financial obligations.
He expressed happiness at the quality of football both teams displayed in an exciting match that ended 1-1.
“We need to support our local football for it to reach greater heights. I am here to support our local football and I am impressed with the standard of play,” President Lungu said
Meanwhile, President Lungu’s special assistant for press and public relations, Amos Chanda, has dismissed reports alleging that Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Joseph Katema was yesterday attacked at Woodlands Shopping Mall by some opposition political cadres for using a Government vehicle.
The minister also said in an interview yesterday that he does not use a Government vehicle over the weekend and was not attacked.

Giving people free entry to soccer matches promotes laziness and hooliganism. These same people will always wait for arms and imagine their reaction to anyone opposed to the giver.

He should have been in state house working until May 16 or 17 because the Zambian people come first before the election. He really knows how to waste tax payer money. He should be doing this at his own time and his own expense not at my people’s expense. You need to respect the Zambian people by respecting there money and protecting their property and interests.
So Lungu is using his 50% kickbacks to bribe football fans. Good for him. The fans should ask themselves how often Lungu pays or will pay for them. Or maybe he realised that the fans are jobless and had no money in their pockets.

I’m hoping the soccer fans are smart enough to use his free ticket and vote wisely on election day. But knowing our electorates and their thinking capacity, they can even sell their vote for a bottle of wine… sad!
And I hope Mr Lungu used his own personal money to pay for those tickets. Again a responsible govt that cares about accountability would have publicly stated the source of funds to avoid speculation.

Is it admission that that people are now actually so poor that they can’t even pay for football during the PF 5 years rule? What else can’t they pay for after football?

Former Defense Minister George Mpombo has charged both the Movement for Multi party Democracy (MMD) and United Party for National Development (UPND) have no political future.
Speaking to JOY FM, Mpombo said most MMD members are likely to defect if the former ruling party is auctioned to UPND.
He said there is need for MMD president Rupiah Banda to resign and allow the party to choose visionary leaders with fresh ideas.
Mpombo claimed that both the MMD and UPND have leaders who do not understand politics, adding that Banda is nothing but a liability that will cause political impasse.
