The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is alarmed by the brutal manner in which the police service arrested and beat up the Post editors Mr.Fred Mmembe and Mr.Joseph Mwenda,including Mr.Mmembe’s wife Mrs Mutinta Mazoka Mmembe. LAZ also condemns the the way the police man handled lawyers Mr.Nchima Nchito SC and Mr.Chisuwo Hamwela who were present following an attempt to enforce a legally binding order by the Revenue Appeals Tribunal dated 27th June 2016.
LAZ says the manner in which ZRA and the law enforcement has gone after the Post Newspapers appears to give credence to the argument by the Post that the actions are politically motivated.

There is nowhere where it is written that they are supposed to review Supreme Court ruling. The tribunal is a lower Court equivalent to the High Court. Police are not there to enforce illegal decisions like the one from the tribunal.

Yesterday ECL was blasting Foreign Embassies to pay Tax charges on behalf of The POST if they sympathized with Fred Mmembe.
But when it comes to police acting out of law, he doesn’t comment – Something is not right here.

At supreme court. We know how Lungu is trying to fix this or that person through appointments of judges. Some of these so called justices are highly questionable. Who can trust Essau Chulu at ECZ. He may be carrying a title of Justice but in his brain is full of chagwa.
The point is that in a Constitutional Democracy u do not expect the President to ignore Court Orders. Lungu swore to the Constitution of Zambia that he will uphold the laws of Zambia. As State President Lungu should lead by example and respect Court Orders. As it is ZRA & ZRP should be charged with the contempt of Court Orders. The way Lungu has handled this matter is unpresidential and deplorable in the eyes of the public and International Community.
