Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula says President Edgar Lungu decided to approve the increment to the chiefs’ subsidies in recognition of the hard work the traditional leaders undertake.

Speaking when he graced the Kazanga Traditional Ceremony of the Nkoya-speaking people in Western Province’s Kaoma district today, Mr Simbyakula said that government shall not be deterred in improving the living conditions of traditional leaders as it wants them to be self-sufficient and lead decent lives.

Mr Simbyakula said that chiefs do not go on leave nor do they take holidays as they are on work every day looking after the interests of their subjects and that is why government has gone a step further to start constructing their palaces countrywide.

The Justice Minister said the PF created the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs as a platform through which government and traditional leaders could interface regularly in order to serve the people better.

Mr Simbyakula said that as Zambians embrace and celebrate culture, they must identify and discard those traditional practices that are harmful to society such as child marriages, gender-based violence, property grabbing among others.

He urged all chiefs to join other traditional leaders in the country that have teamed-up with government and other stakeholders in protecting children and adolescents from vulnerabilities related to child marriages, HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence.

And the Nkoya-speaking people have called on government to consider promoting any one of their gazetted chiefs in the area as senior chief or indeed paramount chief.

Kazanga Traditional Ceremony chairman general Lytone Kaushiku said that in 1947, King George recognized four traditional leaders in the region all of whom are now paramount chiefs except the Nkoya chief.

Mr Kaushiku said that at that time King George recognized the Litunga of the Lozi-speaking people, the Chiitimukulu of the Bemba, Gawa Undi of the Chewa and chief Mutondo of the Nkoya yet it is only the latter who has not been elevated.

He wondered why Zambia’s successive governments have failed to promote any one of the Nkoya chiefs and appealed to the PF government under President Lungu to look into their plight.

Mr Kaushiku reiterated the Nkoya people’s call to government for the creation of a new province to be named Kafue that will include Kaoma, Nkeyema, Luampa, Lukulu, Mumbwa, Itezhi Tezhi and parts of Kasempa all of which are vested with vast natural resources.

This years’ Kazanga traditional ceremony, which is hosted by chief Mutondo, is being attended by chief Kabulwebulwe of Mumbwa, while chief Kahare sent representation and several senior government dignitaries were also present.

  1. But you should have done this way before election time. Otherwise it will be perceved as a campaign gimick. Same appllies to the closure of the post. Why do that when its election time ? bad timing

    • So it is Kaushiku who has been campaigning for Kafue Province! This shall not happen because the area he is talking about is in contention as part of Barotseland. No President will create a new monster supervised by Nkoyas. Zambia has enough problems as it is. And nobody with half a brain will listen to a dolt like Simbyakula who missed an election filing deadline. Of all days in a year, why party or screw your biatch so hard that you miss filing for elections! What a learned dunderhead!

    • #Biggie, Its not bad timing but vote buying!! PF are a batch of crooks and they want to use every crooked means there is in the book to win the elections.

    • WHEN DID LUNGU REALIZE THAT CHIEFS WERE HARD WORKING AND DESERVED A SALARY INCREAMENT? AND YOU EXPECT US TO BELIEVE YOUR N0NSENSlCAL CLAIM! LUNGU KUYA BEBELE.

  2. Simbyakula has found himself lying on behalf of Edgar and hoping to deceive Zambians. Edgar increased the payment to Chiefs purely for purposes of winning political support from the Chiefs in the coming elections! Lungu has joined the weird version of African politics of deceit and manipulation perpetrated by men and women who lack integrity and character. What a shame!

  3. That Syambikula, The most dull PF minister ever being. I understand he even lost his MP elections already, was he late or something to do with his slowness? Look at those 2, how can they come up with a clear Constitution?

  4. But it is the same chiefs who said it was not necessarily need to increase their wages what hard work do these chaps do?

  5. He can’t even keep simple time who made this man a minister this one is a waste of space a Lungu Presidential liability.

  6. This illegal Minister is lying The intention is buy votes but that wont work. Does anybody know what decision Concourt has made on these illegal Ministers? The compromised Concourt is still reserving judgment on this issue to allow these illegal Ministers to help Lungu rig the elections using state machinery and financial resources.

  7. Is this really the calibre of PF Justice Minister?

    Reduced to another lying vuvuzela?

And Lungu and his gang of thieves really think Zambians should give these sycophants another five years?

Vote wisely this time. Five more years of PF will only bring poverty.

  8. It used to work in the Kaunda error nowadays it is not possible. people now do not even listen their Chiefs. so do not worry if ECL is winning he will win according to what he has done not because of Chief’s salary increment.
