Al Ahly suffered a confidence setback on Monday evening ahead of their home game against Zesco United after losing to Zamalek in the Egypt Cup final.
Zamalek beat Al Ahly 3-1 in Cairo into retain their title in a match Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka was an unused substitute.
The defeat came five days before Al Ahly host Zesco in this Friday’s penultimate 2016 CAF Champions League Group A match in Suez.
However, Zesco have not been in action since July 27 when they returned from Cote d’Ivoire where they drew 1-1 with ASEC Mimosa in a Group A fixture.
And Al Ahly, who picked up their first Group A win on July 27 after beating leaders Wydad Casablanca 1-0 away in Morocco, are seeking their second straight victory when they hosts Zesco.
Second placed Zesco beat Al Ahly 3-2 on June 18 in their opening Group A match in Ndola.
Wydad and Zesco are tied on 7 points, Al Ahly are 3rd level on 4 poinst with bottom placed ASEC.
