President Edgar Lungu has opened up a marginal lead over his main challenger Hakainde Hichilema with results from three constituencies declared.

President Lungu is leading the pack after polling 17,620 votes closely followed by UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema who has polled 16,358.

The three constituencies who results have been verified and declared are Feira, Mwansabombwe and Chavuma.

The results were announced by ECZ Chairperson and presidential election returning officer Essau Chulu.

In third place is UNIP’s Tilyenji Kaunda who polled 155 followed by Andyford Banda from People’s Alliance for Change who managed 135 votes.

UPP’s Savior Chishimba polled 97 votes followed by Edith Nawakwi from the FDD who polled 82 votes while Wynter Kabimba of the Rainbow Party polled 48 followed by Green Party’s Green Sinkamba with 28 votes.

Maxwell Kabamba of the Democratic Assembly only managed 22 votes.

At parliamentary level, the PF scooped Feira, Mwansabombwe while the UPND won the Chavuma parliamentary seat.
The second batch of results is expected at 22 Hours.

And Justice Chulu has apologised for the delays in announcing the verified results blaming the delays on the slow process of counting the ballots at polling stations.

He also revealed that the ECZ information system was slow in receiving the results during the afternoon and only picked up later in the evening.

Justice Chulu further disclosed that the Commission met all the presidential candidates to assure them of the Commission’s commitment to delivering a credible election.

He said President Lungu who is also the PF presidential candidate was represented by party Secretary General Davies Chama.

And ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Priscilla Isaac has revealed that a man believed to be a PF member has been detained by police after he was found to have accessed the ECZ Data centre at the Results Centre at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Ms. Isaac said she expressed concern over the security procedures at the data centre and called on ECZ officers to strengthen data security to protect the process.

    • It’s a shame that Zambia is going to elect PF again. Anyways enjoy the next 5 years because am sure they will be hell.

    • Sad indeed. I`ve never seen a country whose people are so unconcerned about the there future and future of there children like Zambia. How do you explain this support for Lungu and PF. What is it based on? Because when you dig into all the economic and development statistics on Zambia, this country is headed into a dark hole. When you statistics like Zambia being ranked 3rd hungriest nation on earth, inflation at more than 20% economy growing at 3%, $7billion in debt, unemployment at 80%—-its so scary. But to people in Zambia—–no big deal! Yes, it might not be a big deal to you —–but how about your children? There is something very, very, serious about Zambia minds.

    • PF is a common man ‘owned party while Hichilema’s party is personal. Zambians have voted themselves in power. Lungu is our fellow common man.

    • Keep calm, 3 is not 150 constituencies… And the margin is very small… In the end HH will carry the day and Zambia is crossing to the other side of the river!!!

    • Every smart leader knows that people don’t respond to orders and directives … They always respond to motives and objectives!! The losing team was all about orders and directives and the winning team kept working on explaining the motives and objectives of why they were asking the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise to hire them.

Nice opening and congratulations, Mr. President … We the people are the King Makers!!!

    • @Blago, don’t be surprised. This is what we call God’s favour. We are better off continuing with ECL, the humble, God-fearing man than to start all over again with questionable characters. Good things ahead of us. God bless mother Zambia. Viva ECL, Viva PF.

    • I don’t know where Chavuma is, but I sense a rerun, and all opposition will be on UPND side. Because PF has already recorded an arrest at ECZ.

    • @Nostradamus
Please chavuma is in police cells! Am from mwenya musenge’ s house ,,,, the man he is crying 2 days , he is not eating, I had to call mama Nawakwi to breast feed him, please call your cousin @ nostra

    • The day when Zambians will realize that elections are not about who wins but about progress and future of a country, that will be the point at which Zambia will take a detour in the right direction. Right now the country is far away from that point. South Africa seem to have gotten to that point. Zimbabwe is realizing that.
I`ve lived in more than 6 countries. For 10 years I`ve never had a neighbor from Africa, and I`ve enjoyed very good relation with my neighbors. So it saddens me to read and hear that tribe is so much a factor in Zambian politics. the other day I was on Market Street in California, and somebody asked me whether I was from Honduras. I jokingly answered, yes. Guys that tribal thing in Zambia is archaic. It is what is responsible for what Zambia is now..

    • @Nez why is it that your party is full of bitter people. Look at your Martha Mushipe’s behaviour. Your guys are just a butch of miserable gits. As you blood pressure goes up, we are patiently waiting for Ecz to do their work. Take a chill pill kuntu mwafwa bwaiche bwaiche.

    • @Spaka like lilo
ECZ is just following formalities…..just keep on waiting and Katondo boys have already declared Lungu as the winner…am one step ahead of Priscilla Isaac….

Am inviting you to my house in Matero for our Victory celebration…..if you use public transportation…you can drop off at Lilanda bus stop and look for a blue 2 roomed house just opposite the market or ask the bus drivers at the bus stop they will give you directions to my house….

AUGUST 11 EDGAR LUNGU HAS JUST WON THE ELECTIONS

      I thank you

  1. Lame excuse. This is the 21st century, please ECZ, WAKE UP!! It’s not surprising why our country never seems to get anywhere. If a simple exercise like counting papers can stump a bunch of grown educated men and women, the job of governing a country is obviously beyond their capacity to cope with as evidenced by over half a century of the economy not getting anywhere. This is pathetic.

  2. Sad indeed. I`ve never seen a country whose people are so unconcerned about the there future and future of there children like Zambia. How do you explain this support for Lungu and PF. What is it based on? Because when you dig into all the economic and development statistics on Zambia, this country is headed into a dark hole. But to people in Zambia—–no big deal! Yes, it might not be a big deal to you —–but how about your children? There is something very, very, serious about Zambia minds.

    • You absolutely right and I totally agree with you…..it will probably take next general elections for people to realise that they need to vote for the future not a president but sound governing principles and the less recycled politicians…….In SA ANC has shown decline in voting after 24 years in power people have got tired of liberation songs and speeches now its about securing the future for the kids by electing they that want to use men and women that want development rather than being partisan to old school of ‘kanabesa…sir…bwana’ for now its tricky for Zambia….in time it will happen

    • @Blago, don’t be surprised. This is what we call God’s favour. We are better off continuing with ECL, the humble, God-fearing man than to start all over again with questionable characters. Good things ahead of us. God bless mother Zambia. Viva ECL, Viva PF.

    • Whoever introduced god to Zambians created a country of zombies. Now even when somebody farts, they have just been saved from a bolt of constipation by the grace of god.

People have bundled up free will and rational thinking and sent them back to god.can’t think or do anything anymore, yet they claim to have been shaped in the likeness of god. I wonder how that god perceives them.

  3. After these elections, the PF government must ensure that it concentrates development efforts in their strongholds and ignore the UPND strongholds completely. It’s about time PF rewaderd loyal provinces and ignored the disloyal provinces. The PF must direct investment to the the loyal provinces and ignore Southern, Western, and Northwestern provinces – the extremely ungrateful provinces. Let them look for their own investors. We are fed up with their ingratitude; you pour investments into their provinces but they still vote against you just because because their tribesman is not the president? What nonsense is this? Let them go and and hang! This period between now and 2021 should be an era of development of loyal provinces only. i rest my case.

    • Such a strategy only encourages further division. If you see people don’t like you try to understand why, not forcing them. My understanding is that Southerners, Westerners and Northwesterners are more sensitive to thieving habbits and dishonest tendencies than are the Northerners and Easterners who to some extent tolerate such behaviours and regard them lightly. For example in Bemba thieves are praised ati alichenjela, it is not so in Tonga Land. Thats why the name Bemba in Tonga Land is synonymous to Thief or someone who can not be trusted, It is a perception problem. One needs to work hard to clear this tag. Otherwise don’t expect any votes from Tonga Land. I have told you what I know.

    • Hehehehe and you are so convinced that the PF or later on the UPND can aggressively pursue expansionary policies? Guys let’s be serious with this country the PF have continuously been running a deficit and have borrowed excessively domestically and externally they have no finances for these projects they have been deceiving you with. IMF invitation is usually a clear indicator of fiscal indiscipline. Guys let’s not be jokers let’s support parties with understanding of the true picture. Let me make it clear that personally I don’t hold anything against PF supporters they have a choice to make like we all do but to keep pretending that things are rosy and we shall continue on the same infrastructural activities without severe consequences to all of us is inexcusable.

    • You are just dumb. What investment has PF taken to North-Western? Its the region`s vast resources and values of its people that draw investors there. If you were sensible and patriotic citizen, you should be worried about the voting pattern which is based on tribal and regionalism. I rest a sure that no country anywhere in the world has achieved meaningful development with such archaic elements.
About PF driving developments in its strongholds, I can give you 30 years, it will never happen. Go to the Copperbelt townships (forget rural areas) and see how people live there. They have no toilets, no running water, infrastructure is like a country emerging from war. Each time I visit the Copperbelt I struggle to hold my tears. Zambia should move from the culture of who wins but rather…

    • It’s either you’re being sarcastic or you’re the biggest ignoramus I’ve ever seen. And since you don’t say you’re just joking, I take it that you’re serious. So let me educate you on how democracy works. Just because an opposing party is challenging your policies doesn’t mean they’re your enemies That’s how the multi- party system works. That’s the way to maintain checks and balances in a democratic system—unless you want to go back to a one party state. In a multi – party system, if one party wins, the leaders of that party, headed by the president, are leaders of the WHOLE country, and not just of those who are loyal to them. Just because the opposition says they don’t think your policies are good for the country doesn’t mean you have to seek payback on them. The…

    • (Continued)…country’s resources belong to ALL Zambians, not just a select few. So, Mr. fake patriot, take your ignorant views and get out of here.

    • Patriot, you win an award for being the stupidest moron of the century. How can you even talk about such divisions. UPND supporters have the right to vote for a person of their choice just like you do. You call Hakainde a tribalism while you are also a tribalist. You voting for Lungu is not on credit but on tribe. Go to hell where you belong for inciting hatred & divisions. We are one nation. ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION

    • The truth is you flushed the future of your children in your toilet. HH and his family are economically ok. By the way, including his great grandchildren. Best you can do is you voted, and wait for the results of your vote after 5 years. All the best with your voting-investment. As for me I feel pity for Zambians that they keep pushing themselves in a dark hole.

  5. If Lungu was winning these elections he would have been declared a Winner Sworn by now. Obviously overall Lungu is lagging behind HH and they are trying to steal the vote by any means. Essau Chulu is not only a “Wako Niwako” and “Kumodzi kumaawa” boy so Chulu is trying to steal the vote just like Gbagbo did in Ivory Coast. We Zambian and the Observers are all eyes on ECZ, Chulu and his Commissioners.

  6. zeb you know what is going on my brother. Everyone knows that if PF was genuinly winning, the results would have already being confirmed and lungu would have already blacked out and soiled his underwear due to alcohol. They are not cooking up results and expect us to accept lies. Imbwa zavantu

  7. The issues arising are not good. As much as I want the best for the country, it seems the PF has done its homework extremely well. They have hackers around the counting center, he is arrested and handed over to PF police, what a joke he is not going anywhere and he is already doing his Job.

    • Didn’t you say you would be doing PVT? What does your PVT show? You have seen on your own that you have lost squarely but still hope that somehow, may be things can change. No, they don’t – it’s now just a formality, it’s over.

  8. @ Zeb. i totally agree with your last sentence not sure about the rest of what you have said. Lungu is leading HH in the final analysis. ECZ, PF & UPND know that. It is Jan 2015 voting part II. and with a high voter turnout, it is likely that he has scooped 50%+ 1 threshold. the much Anticipated FDD split-vote factor seems to be out of the equation.

  9. Shocked! No one has pointed out that there are 2 strongholds against 1? This result is not good for PF. If you add one more constituency from UPND strong hold what do you get?

  10. @Observer. spot on. It is over! By now, we all know (or should know) that that is the deal. Lusaka city and copperbelt urban towns where UPND had hoped to do well has gone or remained PF with Massive votes….Mrs. Scott, Mulenga Sata,Maureen Mwanawasa etc have lost miserably. Word on the street is that Silva Masebo is done as well to the same cousin who rescued her….While Central Province will be Sangwapo for PF, UPND, your guess of results for the rest of the country is as good as mine.

    • @The Eye. Look at the percentages that UPND is getting in PF strongholds. Then look at the percentages PF is getting in UPND strongholds. UPND MP’s don’t have to win for HH to gain against Lungu. He just has to minimise his losses while maximising his gains in PF strongholds.
      Do your maths.

  11. “UPND has taken by more than 80% Central, Western, Southern and Northwestern. UPND has performed extremely well in perceived PF strongholds. Lusaka and Copperbelt are neck to neck. 45% of Eastern is UPND, 40% Muchinga and Northern and about 30% Luapula.
Meanwhile PF is performing at about 9 -15% in UPND strongholds. Livingstone alone gave HH 66,000 with Lungu at 12,000. This wipes out most of the loss in Luapula and Northern combined. UPND’s highly effective PVT has HH leading by a wide margin across the land (about 52% HH to 47% Lungu). So UPND must stay vigilant, but ready to celebrate as the reign of terror is coming to an end…. Long live Zambia…!!”

  12. @Iron. No need to be shocked friend. It is very basic statistical analysis…go to the verified national voters’ register. see how the total numbers are for PF strongholds against UPND strongholds. Last i checked (i stand to be corrected), total % for SP, WP, NW was 25% (UPND) while East, Muchinga, North, Luapula (PF) came to 32%. PF has 7% advantage already-statistically significant given the Massive voter turnout. Central will be split with total overall votes going either way but with small margin. Lusaka (especially Lusaka city) and CB (especially CB urban) is where PF has won this election. Remember Lusaka and CB have the majority voters…it’s done friend. it is over.

    • Have you done your ACTUAL voter turn out? What is the % voter turn out in PF strongholds against UPND strongholds? The 32% in PF strongholds assumes 100% turn out. The actual is not more than 55% to 65%, which reduces your turn out to 20.8% max advantage against the 25% x 80% turnout = 20% in UPND strongholds. The advantage is reduced to 0.8% just by turnout alone.
      Just imagine that!

  13. Really laughable 24 hours after the election and you can confirm only three constituencies; what have these people been doing for last 5 yrs? We pay these Directors of ECZ to sit around and fart all day waiting for payday…we need a cultural change in this country – a performance related culture.
    Folly of the highest order!!

    • But who will bring that culture change with ECL back? Need to wait another 5 years when another messiah shows up.

  14. The vile insults of Chilyata betray his Namwala DNA. Wait until ECZ completes the results, he will start insulting in his native language. So what’s my share Mr Chilyata?

  15. @NKN. Good points. and valid. well noted. 2 factors are working against UPND: 1. Massive voter turnout in PF strongholds-meaning, the rate of catching up is slower such that by the time HH will be catching up, 156 constituencies will be done. it is called a limit. Your hypothesis would have been fine if there were more constituencies ( i have not calculated what the break even should have been-i could calculate). Remember how he could not catch up last year with very low vote-turn out in PF areas. 2. The Copperbelt and Lusaka City factor is a serious blow..this last one is self explanatory i guess. it simply widens the gap further or at the very least seriously slow down the rate of catching up!

    • @The eye. There is an actual PVT done based on actual signed off figures! Just think for a moment: Do you think there would have been this delay if ECL had won? Where are the Lusaka results? Would PF thru KBF complain of rigging if PF had won?

  16. @ Messiah! Have never seen a Messiah who’s so self centred and full of insults, grabbing land from Namwala villagers…Messiah of doom

  17. Amazing but not still. This is a people who walked the talk of KK, enduring the Frontline, the promise of FTJ, the marvel of LPM, the grey of RB and the 9-11 of MCS happened upon them, then came the stupor of choosing ECL! If this pans-out as trickly and tricky as it is now, ECZ have committed treason, just like hackers/tricksters and what have u. My only solace lies in the fact that nations that endured persevered and never really vanquished! This was a country to be proud of, let it not become laughing-stock ba ECZ – announce ALL VERIFIED RESULTS NOW !!
This is not about ECL/HH, it’s about 14,000,000 zambians!
Let my people go-Luthuli;Zambia shall be free-KK;Rivonia speech-Mandela;THE WRETCHED OF THE EARTH-FANON;Through the valley of darkness-George W,911; UBUNTUNGWA-Mlevhu…

  18. 19. I DONT KNOW WHY UPND CADRES ARE COMPLAINING WHEN IN FACT THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE CREATED THIS SITUATION. THEY ARE FORCING THE ECZ TO MANAGE THE POLLS THROUGH A TIME CONSUMING ,STRENUOUS PROCESS DUE TO THEIR PARANOID NATURE AND DELUSIONS OF RIGGING. HH HAS KEPT POPPING AT THE TOTALING CENTRE CRYING THIS AND THAT. ITS A SHAME.

  20. @ Visionary. you are very right. That is my serious problem with Zambian politics since 2001. In fact, from my experience, it seems to be everywhere including govt. depts, UNZA, of course politics-can one imagine where we are heading?
The issue, it seems to me, is that instead of admitting this as problem, We keep pointing fingers at each other. The ”Ostrich problem”, if you like burying our heads in the sand. KK was courageous to not only admit that it was a problem then but he also took radical steps to tackle it. I am afraid, this is slowly becoming a cancer. Watch the results in 2016! it is 2015 part II! unless we admit & address it, we will find ourselves in atrocities where some of our friends have been before. Trust me, you do not want to go there.

  21. If Lungu has been elected without any skullduggery, & M7 methods, then CONGRATULATIONS, Zambians have chosen, & that is Democracy.
However if the books were cooked, the only loser is the Poor Underprivileged Zambian. Goodnight Zambians, you have spoken!

  22. I hate to see people cry but unfortunately it is what it is….this is politics….HH is a good person but he messed up when he teamed up with GBM….I respect him as a business man and a very patriotic Zambian…as for UPND supporters….I salute you…keep on the good work of being a tough opposition…..this is the only way we can develop as a nation….One Zambia One Nation….
My good friend Spaka like lilo…it’s not the end of the world…and also Lutuku presido…..wipe your tears….we need your votes in 2021

Priscilla Isaac will repeat after me….it’s just a matter of time before she finally declares Edgar LUNGU as the winner

    I thank you

  23. Im saddened to note that a man believed to be a PF supporter was caught accessing the election data centre. I do not know what else would be called rigging intentions. Its a shame to mother Zambia.
