Riots in Monze
Riots in Monze

Riots against re-election of President Edgar Lungu that hit most parts of Southern Province last evening spread to Mongu in the western province.

An eye witness confirmed that most parts of Mongu town were affected and that riot police had to fire teargas canisters.

He said youths were running battles with the police as youths chanted slogans of forward forward and we want change.

And Mazhandu Family Buses Limited has announced the temporal suspension of bus services to the Southern Provinces after riots broke out.

“We wish to notify our esteemed passengers that the buses to and from southern province have been temporarily cancelled due to riotous behaviour currently being experienced in some towns along this route. However, we expect to resume as soon as the situation normalises. Advance tickets that were purchased for this route remain valid, we regret any inconvenience this may cause,” a statement read.

  1. HH time to graduate from Under 5 and show leadership. Drive to your supporters and calm them down. Sata did this after he lost to LPM and you can do the same and show leadership. Help unite the country

    • Nez you are a pea brain. The lozis and Tongas are so called cousins. They have always been close tribes and support each other more over the I.diot says he is half lozi. Dont think people are naive. when I say he hails from there I am pointing out the fact that those are his strongholds. But you are such an i.mbicile to see the obvious

    • With the arrogance of ECZ, let Zambians enjoy the ever load shedding for 5 years with the fluctuated economy in reverse.
Soon the dollar will be equal to K25,000.
Let poverty reign supreme & maybe people will wake up, otherwise under violent & visionless, kiss G~unfortunately bye bye to democracy.

    • Nono I have rattled your cage you silly baboon kikiki. The fact is that hh is not from western nor north western. Riots are taking place in ndola too. So now are you going to say that hh is from ndola. Do you see how tribal your thinking is? Hh has support country wide. Tribal dogs like you are the reason people vote for useless dull chaps like lungu. Please just go and attend your thanks giving prayers with lungu and pray for more poverty and load shedding.

    • Riots started last Friday online. LT was on fire when Chavuma, friend of E. Mwamba was arrested tapping the ECZ servers. That was day-time, live robbery ever.

    • It is not HH to unit the country but the comments which are coming from the other side, PF in particular. PF has categorically said they will only take the development to the areas they enjoy support, which means the rest will have to fend for themselves.

    • Guys, the ECZ website is offline!!!! Someone has just observed a miscalculation of results percentages for Mr Lungu and HH…. Watchdog, please investigate this matter urgently….

VJ Rigger August 16, 2016 at 8:32 am
ECZ have shut their website after announcing wrong figures that declared Lungu a president (?).
Please help me with this ECL scored this 1,860,877 and HH scored 1,760,347 total number of votes cast 3,781,505
in percentage terms ECL 49.21% and HH 46.55% what’s meaning of 50% plus 1 was not attained. These raises serious constitutional and mathematical errors

Who cares. You told us this even before we voted that if PF wins you shall not accept the results. Even the judges you will be seeing know this. You are just fulfilling what you said.
What is sad is your voting pattern. We know what you do and we just let you go ahead since we know that will take you nowhere.

    • Bembas have chosen to remain backward and in poverty. Instead of voting for a progressive thinker, they voted for a violent alcoholic. So be it. HH won and the ECZ stole it. So Zambians want to be like Ugandans and Zimbabweans, so be it. let the Bembas reap what they sow. Lungu only understands violence so violence it shall be.

    • @intelligent, when I calculated % you all did’t want to vetify.
I took figures to my job, various background. If you use scientific calculator, Lungu got 47.6%. Manual divide (i carry 1), will give you 49%.

    • Please accept defeat. True Zambians do not want a civil war. If there was any malpractice then pf’s downfall is inevitable. Karma will catch up with pf if there has been any wrong doing by pf and upnd in this election. Look what happened to Rupiah Banda. Accept defeat so that Zambians can continue to live in peace. Zambia may become more impoverished under pf Lungu but at least there will be peace. Time for a better generation to start preparing to lead Zambia. PF and UPND have only divided the country. My conclusion is that both parties are a disgrace to Zambia. Their leaders are not true Zambians as they cannot unite all tribes of Zambia. Kenneth Kaunda managed to unite Zambians from ever tribe. MP’s would serve outside their tribes. For example a bemba mp for southern province. Shame…

    • ZAMBIA IS DIVIDED AND I DONT SEE ANY REASON VOTING IN IMPORTANT WHEN OTHER TRIBES WHO VOTE FOR OPPOSITION ARE DESCRIBED AS DOGS. ZAMBIA IS DIVIDED AS NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN KINGDOMS. ZNBC FROM TODAY ONWARD MUST REMOVE KK’S SLOGAN OF ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.
LUNGU TOOK INONGE WINNER TO WIN THE LOZI AND GIVING THEM A MIGHTY BRIDGE EVER BELT IN ZAMBIA BUT THE PEOPLE OF WESTERN PROVINCE HAVE FAILED TO GIVE LUNGU A VOTE.

HH TOOK GBM AS A RUNNING MATE BUT BECAUSE BEMBAS ARE TRIBAL HAVE REJECTED HH AND GAVE HIM ZERO NOT EVEN ONE CONSTITUENCY WHERE HH AND GBM STRONGLY CAMPAIGNED HAD.

  6. So 3 provinces are protesting against the wish of 7 provinces. What kind of people think like that? HH, you started all this by declaring yourself winner before even a single vote was cast and pledging never to concede should you be defeated. And true to your selfish ego, you’re now edging your supporters to go to the extent of shedding blood for you! Those are true colours of a dangerous dictator who GOD can not allow anywhere near state house in Zambia … mark my words!

Every PF supporter should be asking HH to delivery a harmonising speech to half the country for the sake of Zambia and show them the way forward through dialogue and Litigation. Its half the country. 1.86 million on 1.76 Million. No one should be silly. It means UPND are just as many. Lets Talk and HH tell all the channel please

  18. Hey people, there is no need to insult and frustrate each other for no reason. If you look at it critically, politics of hate, insults, tribalism and mare rhetoric have landed us where we are today. But lets remember that after all this, you will still be yourself and I will still be myself. why should I entrust my life in the hands of the politicians and let them determine the person I become tomorrow? Zambians are known to be responsible, peaceful and hard working people and we stand out internationally and everyone recognizes us from the good side. I am afraid, we seem to be losing it all, our cultural values and beliefs, brotherly love, our humanity and all because we are being driven and fooled by the so-called politicians. We all have a responsibility and right to ensure that the…

  19. My big concern is these people will not accept even the ruling of the Constitutional Court if it goes against them. They may not even have a solid legal case but would wish to push bounds and when they lose at Court they will claim the judiciary has been compromised and bought by PF!! What if PF also comes with claims of abnormalities and electoral misconduct which they had already raised about the situation in Southern Province? And if the entire election or only Lusaka votes are nullified, what will be the final outcome to restore normal governance when HH and his people believe that the current ECZ cannot preside over a fair election? Who then could supervise the election which HH and all political players will accept!? Very worrying indeed bcoz in these procedures there is also what…

  21. IT’S A LONG WAY TO GO TO CIVILISATION IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD- I BLAME POWER HUNGRY HH.
    ========================
After HH lost the 2016 polls I expected him to calm his goons whether he accepted the results or not like SATA did in 2006 and 2008. It does not matter how many times you lose an election, the Democratic dispensation of politics and elections in Zambia is deeply entrenched in numbers in all parts of the country not one or 3 provinces out if 10. HH stop your tribesmen from violence with your mouth.

  22. Do you think hh can do that, only a Christian can stop such kind of nosense, not a freemason agent like hh,l feel him can even wish worse than that, that’s why GOD knows what’s best for the Zambians people. GOD won’t allow a non Christian to lead a Christian nation. one Zambia one nation…!

  25. Not matter what HH tells us to stop riots we shall not because its time us the youths show that we are not cowards and will not be treated like second class citizens by other tribes. 80% of Zambia’s wealth comes from Western, North Western and Southern Provinces so you have more to lose.
Lungu got 15% in South Province but HH got 10% in Luapuala. Have anyone of you commented that its tribalism. No! When you can clearly see that votes were tempered with in Lusaka, has anyone of you asked Lungu to show leadership. No.
So dont even try and comment where you are just foolish biased Bloggers.
We are going to show Lungu and Kaizer that don’t take people for granted and hide behind Zambia is a peaceful country. We are go full throttle on these riots no matter what the leadership in UPND say…

  26. about the returning officer who hanged himself, the story is this, this teacher was paid by upnd to play with results, immediately after voting ended at 20.48hrs the counting started, halfway into counting this teacher saw that the votes for pf mp and presido were too many he developed high blood pressure, he actually collapsed. he was taken to his home which is within the school premises Highland in Maplots, don’t argue NEZ you were not there.his deputy is the one who signed off all the forms. the story continues, in the morning when he woke up he went back to the school and told the watchman at the gate that he wanted to check if the water pump was running, after about 30 minutes the watchman took a walk to check for him only to find him hanging from the water tank tower. this teacher…

  31. The HH petition will not go anywhere, it will just serve to embarrass the U5 even further. Just look at the calculation of the illiterate who calls himself “Mr Intelligent”. He does not know that in calculating 50%+1 we do not onclude spoilt ballots. Spoilt ballots are invalid ballots so we cannot include them, it’s not me who said so, its the law and its been like that from time immemorial so we cannot bend the rules for U5 to become president otherwise thete will.be chaos.
The point that I am making is that it is illiterates like this guy who advise HH and somehow HH has no problem accepting such nonsense if itbsounds sweet to his ears. Ati petition, U5, save yourself whatever remains of your tattered image.

  33. Zambia is the envy of a lot of countries because of being a peaceful nation. it doesn’t matter what tribe you come from we are all Zambians. Right now there is a lot of strife in our neighboring countries who actually consider us to be a safe haven full of peace loving people. We managed to house our brothers and sisters during the apartheid era because of the character we have and we treated them as part of us. How then can we fail to love each other when we all come from here, we are all Bantu with a common origin, doesn’t matter what our mother tongue is. Don’t allow a spirit of hatred to manifest among us we are all intertwined through marriages and otherwise. At the end of the day God has blessed this nation its up to us as individuals to invest our strength and wisdom in order…
