UPND Deputy Spokesman Edwin Lifwekelo has re-joined the Patriotic Front.

Mr Lifwekelo made the move to the PF along with some Kabwata UPND Constituency officials.

The receiving ceremony was held at Chrismar Hotel in Lusaka.

The defectors were received by PF Member of the Central Committee and Chairperson for Elections Jean Kapata.

Mr Lifwekelo was one of the founder members of PF and its first Secretary General in 2001 but he left the party after he fell out with late Michael Sata.

  1. No hard feelings. It’s his democratic right, he’s free to go. We wish him the best of luck in his new political party

    • Chrisma hotel is better and decemt place for receiving defectors than chainama motel. One would question the sanity of Mumba after being welcomed at chainama.

    • Lifwekelo is as disappointed with HH as the international community.

Lifwekelo has seen that there is no future in UPND and HH.

Most of the happenings in UPND can be seen as m mere kiding and a total lack of seriousness.

Most of the talking in UPND, including their petition has been based on falsehood.

Their philosophy has been built around haterade do Edigar Lungu.

The end of UPND has began.

    • Come on?? what kind of rubbish is this?? you mean PF is that desperate?? If you won why welcome back a loser? Not surprising because PF is about uneducated Cadres desperate to plunder the country down??The Dununa reverse means reverse all possible economic growth??

Zambians will regret there actions. this next 5 years will be tough.. you will remember and start protesting like in Zimbabwe??

    • Come one, come all. Leave HH Kapata mukaya with William Banda, GBV, Maliteta, all outcasts of Scott, Miless and Crosstitute Masebo. We understand that the feeling of losing is overbearing in HH. No doubt it’s an excruciating, horrifying pain he is going through but no reason to stick with a baseless extended funeral ceremony when the country deserves to move past his popular ballot rejection. I repeatedly warned that Katapa mukaya is alone in this funeral undoubtedly bewildered, perplexed, confused, and filled with baseless anxiety.

    • As one who leaves a sectarian Groupthink, and joins a national cause for unity, such is a patriot and brother for a better Zambia. Bravo Edwin for leaving kapata bakaya known for his passion for GBVs. Let him enjoy his extended funeral alone.

    • THE PF WHO ARE CELEBRATING LIFWEKELO SHOULD KNOW THIS. THE MAN HAS BEEN A DOUBLE AGENT. ASK MULUBWA OF GOOD MILILE, HE WILL TELL YOU HOW LIFWEKELO WAS BEING USED. PF HAS BEEN USING HIM ALL ALONG. DID YOU SEE HIM PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE IN UPND DURING THE CAMPAIGNS? MULUBWA AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN HIS CONTACTS. HE HAS RUN AWAY BECAUSE HE IS ABOUT TO BE EXPOSED BY SOME WITNESSES. HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE DIRT WORK IN THE PF ELECTION FRAUD IS ABOUT TO BE EXPOSED AND THE FEAR OF BEING EXPOSED BY WITNESSES HAS MADE HIM RUN AWAY. HE IS A JUDAS ISCARIOT. HE WAS BEING USED BY PF TO BUY UPND POLLING AGENTS. HE IS HAS JUST GONE TO JOIN HIS FELLOW CRIMINALS AFTER FINISHING HIS ASSIGNMENT.

    • I hope Lungu is learning something…. people are free to belong where they want to be… the beauty of democracy. Go well may your aspirations come true in PF

    • @1.1 MUMBA AND ALL THE UPND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HAVE THEIR INSANITIES QUESTIONABLE THATS WHY THEY ALL THINK CHINAMA OR ANY PLACE NEAR CHINAMA IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THEM.

    • See no reason why he shouldn’t. It’s his democratic right. It’s like in football, a player can join another team without tribalising everything like we see in politics these days. Sad that PF even made tribalism a campaign mantra but it backfired because it didn’t get them the ‘white wash’ results they had hoped for! Only managed a marginal 50.3% or put straight only won by 0.3% overall. That’s why matters are in court as we speak.

All the best Mr. Lifwekelo, Hope you can nip this tribal thing in the bud. It’s being given undue prominence when it shouldn’t. Please tell PF to move on to another chapter. KK resolved the tribal thing in the 70’s we are now in the 21st century!

As for @ Peace for Zambia, you keep referring to the international community, who specifically? I…

    • Nice catch …use the f00l as a bait to catch more kachemas and their mbuyas ….yamunyokola njala ch.ikala

    • I have learnt to appreciate people who move from a ruling party to an opposition coz they normally provide checks & balances.
I wont comment on people moving from a loosing/Opposition party to a ruling party especially immediately after the polls.

Further more may I remind fellow Zambians That belonging to an opposition party that gates close to 50% of a National Election does not make you a foreigner, in fact it should give you hope that more people believe in you and that the probability of being the next government is very high.

    • @ 1.18 Njoko,
Please understand that you don’t laugh at someone who passes by few marks, and then praise someone who fails by few marks saying he almost passed.

That kind of thinking will not manage to take you forward, even you chant you ‘Zamnia forward’ a hundred times.

Of course I agree with you, Zambia will move forward, but not with your party in charge.

    • This is funny. Looks like some politicians in Zed act more like opportunists and nothing more. They practice what I would call grasshopper politics. Their defections don’t seem to be based on any strong personal convictions, or ideology, but what’s politically expedient at the moment. Seems like if you asked them as to why they’ve defected, they wouldn’t tell you anything, except for the fact that they believe there are more opportunities in the other party (PF). So there’s no guarantee that they wouldn’t defect back to UPND if they don’t get what they want in PF. Thus the hopping cycle continues.

  2. Welcome to the winning team Edwin. They have seen that UPND is going nowhere with their petition. 5 years with GBM as UPND president will be torture.
This is giving His Hexcellency (HH) sleepless nights. Kalusa (HH) is about to be evacuated to Morningside

    • Fix the broken economy then we can all join. Though I wonder why Edwin left in the first place, does it mean late MCS policies were bad compared to ECL’s?

    • Comme tu We are receiving all of them but they have to start from the grassroots. UPND is finished. We have demolished (HH).

    • I nearly said ‘use your brain’ but I realise you don’t have one. You are forever using crude language befitting of a Kaponya, though you think HH is one too.

  3. Politics is all about numbers. Welcome them all but with caution coz they are political prostitutes..! Welcome back to your party Mr lifwekelo.

  4. The ‘ruling’ party has never been short of spokesmen or publicity stunts. The never ending campaign…

In lighter news Zambians still have a sense of humour. Was fun laughing through Twitter hashtags on IfAfricawasaschool and Africanbreakuplines.

  5. GBM TAKES OVER UPND

Opposition UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, popularly known as GBM has called for an emergency national convention to replace losing presidential candidate and now UPND cadre, Hakainde Hichilema (HH).

The UPND presidency is being contested by former MMD failed politicians including: Brian Chituwo, Nevers Sekwila Mumba, Sylvia Masebo, Katele Kalumba, Vernon Mwaanga, Gabriel Namulambe, Miles Sata, Mulenga Sampa, GBM, Guy Scott, Obvious Mwaliteta, William Tekere Banda, Edward Mumbi, Bob Sichinga, Lupando Mwape, George Mpombo and Situmbeko Musokotwane.

The convention comes after Kaponya (HH) also known as Kalusa failed to win the 2016 Presidential and General Elections.

    • Keep dreaming. If they have no constituencies to bring to the table they will not make it in UPND. GBM could not even bring in the votes from Kasama and Northern regions.

    • Baba, like PF, UPND is a club governed by voluntary rules. So why can’t GBM take over if he qualifies under the club’s rules. Bridled excitement on your part there. Just one question for you though, if GBM takes over will UPND be labelled a Bemba party then? Sad how you guys come up with the nomenclature of what to call others. This is what has led to the perceived obtaining ‘strife’ in the country.

  6. Why is he leaving? Can you ask him that? Stories need to be complete. I am sure a reason was given but its not in the story- incomplete reporting.

  7. Mumba and GBM you have to reform in UPND they don’t pay for house rentals Mumba you’re in trouble ask Mr Banda.

    • @Bemba boy, Who does these days? There’s no free lunch in Rome anymore. Ask KK what happened the last time he did it.

  8. He is not a factor. The only time UPND will have headaches with a defection is when HH will announce that he was joining PF. They had a vice president and MP for Solwezi in the name of Richard Kapita and Kafwaya who joined PF and promised to deliver North-western province to the PF. Instead NW province voted overwhelmingly for the UPND!!!!!!!

    • Stop being a hypocrite by claiming he is not a factor when he was a senior member in your party. If he wasn’t a factor he was not going to have been an office bearer. Tomorrow if he says he’s rejoining UPND you will hail him as a hero.

  9. Most Upnd members have been conspicuously quite, why? It’s because they are not happy with the appointment of a well known uncivilized bully commonly known as Gbm as presidential running mate. This man believes more in bullying than in negotiations.

  10. Politics should be about service. Zambian political history has few if any role models. We are lagging behind on every important metric in the region. The habit of wearing political regalia everywhere is nauseating. I believe I cannot get a correct answer If I asked for the ideological difference between PF and UPND from any of the people in picture. These young people must be learning useful skills instead of being used here as chess ponds.

    • Amen My brother , and it seems that those that writing here, judging from their language, the are no better than the so called cadres that are putting thugs in gov’t just because they bought them alcohol.

If Lungu is a true leader, and from what I have heard he is still acting as the president despite the petition, how come he has failed to stop the violence if there is any? Or is he try to fuel the propaganda for the known outcome ? What a shame we have people using this forum as hooligans.

  11. I suspect Edwin did vote for ECL during last elections. I feel for Muzungu opusa, Mulenga Sata, and Miles Sampa. All these guys are finished

  12. The beginning of the end for the UPND! Zambian politics can be very predictable.Losers cant expect to keep supporters for long. Soon Sylvia and Maureen will follow. I feel sorry for HH and GBM. Whatever one may think of Lifwekelo, his decision is morally devastating for the UPND.

  13. Looking at these comments I wonder. What matters is why you entered politics. I f you entered politics for service, you should have your own source of income especially in Africa. So whether you loose or win, there is always a lot that one can do to advance the cause of the continent. I applaud people, like some names mentioned above who can speak their minds out. Presidential mistakes are costly, Mwanawasa created RB through that mistaken appointment, Sata created ECL in the same manner. These people did not join politics to serve but to earn ‘wrongly and instinctively’

  14. BA PF MUST TALK SENSE. ALL WHAT I SEE IS YOUR DULLNESS. UBUFONTINI BWALICHIAMO THAT IS WHY YOU WILL CONTINUE BUYING UBUNGA AT MORE THAN K95. WE HAVE ALL REFUSED TO SALE OUR MAIZE TO FRA. MWALALWALA SHIKIPOLOMYA UNO MWAKA. I HAVE OPTED TO SALE MY MAIZE AT THE MARKET THAN FRA.
LIFWEKELO WAS NOT UPND BUT PF AND LET HIM GO WE DON’T CARE AND ALL HE HAS NOT ADDED ANY VALUE TO UPND.

    • Mwisho mulukubepo bufi, ngati Lifwekelo alipo chungwa nindo tamwamutanfishe? Is it now you have realized that he’s useless or is just sour grapes. Upnd has been killed by desparation to get state house resulting in involving unprincipled individuals like pastor Nevers Mumba.

    • It is not only your UPND cadres who have maize. Even if you do not sale, you only doing harm to your own relatives too. They are not immune to hunger. Not everyone who is UPND is a farmer.

What has the defection of Lufekelo to do with your maize? Who is playing dull here? I think it yourself!

    • SENAMA YOU ARE RIGHT BA PUH-FUULLL ARE NOT FARMERS AND WE SHALL SEE THEM WHO THEY WILL CRY LIKE BABIES. THEY ARE CHIMBWI NO PLAN. UBUFONTINI BWALICHILISHA THAT IS WHY THEY DO NOT ARTICULATE ISSUES BUT LEAD TO VIOLENCE.

LIFWEKELO WAS NOT HELPING UPND DURING CAMPAIGN BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT HE WAS GOING BACK TO HIS PUU- FUULL PARTY. LIFWEKELO INSULTED LUNGU ON MANY OCCASIONS AND BECAUSE PF HAS NO MORALS THEY HAVE DECIDED TO BUY HIM BACK

  15. Is it now that Lifwekelo has become useless? Come on men, you should be getting worried because next time it will be either Mweetwa or Nkombo and you’ll say they are not a factor?

  16. This is the problem we have in Zambian politics. No political convictions and principles. FOOD politics! disgraceful and pathetic.

  17. This is the nonsense that should not be encouraged. However democratic it can be political prostitution has become rampant in this country. What value is he going to add to PF?That’s why there is so much confusion in these parties.Even people we held in high esteem like Mutati now just look confused. Its so disheartening.Who is next?Thats what made people like ba Sata different.Even after leaving MMD he knew what he wanted. To me even HH has direction, atleast he has been consistent.People like this one are useless.I wont be surprised though if one day he is an MP.It seems a lot junk ends up in parliament anyway.

  18. Apali 5 years patali ka, some one would in grade 12 would be a degree holder in engineering during the same same period so kuchenjela. Under 5 doesn’t have a political clout and my prediction that FDD will be the next biggest opposition to PF if Nawakwi plays it right and goes to the convention would come true.
One thing is for sure you will never hear of Scott and Miles in the next 3 years. The end of UPND is here!

  19. country wide confidence in hh as a presidential hopeful is at its lowest 1 in 10 people now few hh could re run or become presidential even when the outcome of petition is in favour of edgar lungu
9 in 10 feel hh should never be president of zambia and 9 in 10 feel the constitutional court should throw out the presidential petition
9 in 10 feel hh cannot unite and govern the country as lungu 9 in 10 feel even if hh hard any slight chance of winning the petition the people of zambia in lusaka copperbelt eastern southern northern and luapula will reject him as presidential
    9 in 10 in livingstone…

  20. and southern province feel hh should retire and upnd look for new leadership 9 in 10 in southern feel more part of zambia and distance hh from themselves 9 in 10 in kabwata say edgar is a preferered presidential the rest i give it up to you to observe yourself and do a research the wiser have seen the future in upnd and hh is blick its time they retired hh and replaced him with hammuududu or mweetwa deputised by gbm or gbm outrightly hh has been rejected by people of zambia he stands no slight chance even in 2021

  21. 9 in 10 global leaders feel EDGAR LUNGU won and is a preferred leader for Zambia 9 in 10 Chiefs feel Edgar is the President Elect and preferred

9 in 10 academicians and Political Analyst feel Edgar Lungu is Presidential 9 in 10 legal counsels attending the Presidential feel Edgar Lungu is President Elect and Preferred than HH

9 in 10 scribes feel edgar lungu is more preferable and president elect than HH

Surely its writing on the wall its time we quit

    • @ Hamangala, sure thing, except the results were not convincing, were they? ECL’s mark up was actually less than 1% overall, hence the petition. What a pity because what you have paraded are just feelings unfortunately. It’s also unclear whose research it is you are quoting (whether it’s your own which becomes questionable). For me ECL should have really won this because now he is wasting time because his opponents have ceased on the flimsy win to challenge the so-called win. Come on man what has he to show for all that campaign expenditure, he should have won by at least 60% like his mentor Museveni did!

    • @Njoko, here are the FIGURES from ECZ:
-> Released on ECZ Website Tue, 16 Aug 2016 19:44:33
      -> Total Registered Voters 6,698,372
-> The total number of votes cast: 3,781,505
-> Number of votes rejected: 85,795
-> Number of valid votes: 3,695,710
      -> Turnout 56.45%
-> Now, out of the total VALID VOTES: Edgar Lungu = 1,860,877 votes, Hichilema = 1,760,347 votes, the rest (combined) = 74,485 votes
      -> Difference between ECL & HH = 100530
      -> % of the TOTAL VALID votes: ECL = 50.35%, HH = 47.63%, The rest = 2.02%
      -> % of the DIFFERENCE between ECL & HH = 2.72% (or simply subtract 47.63% from 50.35%)

The THRESHOLD to win is 50% of the TOTAL VALID votes cast plus 1 VOTE (NOT 1% of the valid votes, like most of you would want to spin things.) ECL passed this test by 13, 022 VALID…

    • continue…

… VOTES. If HH had gotten at least 50% of the VALID VOTES cast and only beaten by 13, 022 votes ( or 0.35%), votes which took ECL over the top, maybe then HH’s petition would make sense. But he was beaten by 100, 530 Votes (or 2.72%). This is the reason why many people think HH/UPND have no GOOD REASON to petition other than just being BAD LOSERS!

    • Njoko I respect level headed views like yours. In any situation use wisdom. The “victory” that ECL has received has divided the nation.

  22. you cannot force to rule people its a headache and you will find it burden some get it on a likeable and clean plate straight without so much strive

All round leadership does not strive to be accepted and later alone win an election

  23. Judging by the level of comments on here this country has a long way before it could develop. Apparently the people commenting on here are supposed to be the best, the cream of the crop, the intellectual elite group of the country with access to the internet resources. And you tell me this is the pool from which the country will choose their next leader. It’s disheartening.

  24. Dear Guy, Charlotte, Miles, Bob, Joe, Geoffrey in life we all make errors of judgment in that moment of temporal insanity we climb on the roof top and cry foul but with hinder site we realize what looked like green pasture is actually sewage water once you near…its not too late to gather your followers apologize to the nation and come home we need you all and one to develop our country for the sake of our great grand children not for our sake…come home and lets advance our nation the world is watching Zambia is bigger than our anger…..let it go

  25. Clean i.d.i.o.t first one showing off.
Took some days off in Greece, and relax from Zambian Politics and thinking by the time I come back there will reasonable debates, but it seems s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y goes on, people learn from your past and stop this political prostitution. Why is politics in Zambia based on opportunities instead of conviction to serve the people? Instead of us blasting off this type of behavior every one here is welcoming this move.
HH or GBM are not the only opposition

  26. No space in PF for ..Guy and Harllote, kilometre, mulenga sata, kabiimba, silvia the crossitute, mwalitteta the grade 7 criminal (who is expected to be jailed at least 5 years) they should rot in upnd ….they made their beds now time to sleep in them

    • @HH NI Chilema, are you fearing they will take up your position? Don’t be like that, politics is about numbers and forgiveness, If you have forgiven Dora Sliti, Kaingu who tore ba tata ba SAta’s speech and ECL said at the Woodlands Stadium’s thanks rally that he is ready to embrace the UPND, why can’t he forgive Mulenga, Scot, Miles. Or is it that he is threatened and insecure and could it be that’s why he hounded them out of PF.
Lungu clearly contradicted himself at that Rally. He said he was ready to embrace upnd, but when it came to Miles, Mulenga, etc, he said he couldn’t have them back. Whats his fear.
This could be reason why he is not sweeping all the elections in PF strongholds but sharing with HH.. its a shame. Let Lungu be a man and mend relationships after all he is the…

  27. He is the only one in UPND who accepted defeat, congratulated the winner, and called for peace and unity in the nation as it waited for another ballot in 2021. He spoke in his official capacity.
Now that is what I call a mature politician. I am your former colleagues in UPND are eagerly waiting the reunion. Let the bitter be poisoned and die by their bitterness.

  28. the man is already finished..he may just be in comma for another month again..kekeke.Lifwekelo yamunyokola..

  29. Lifwekelo greatly contributed to the first PF manifesto which eventually put them in power. He joined UPND to see if he can bring down the PF but he has seen that it is a mission impossible. Why chase something that you can not catch.ELC is preaching unity and peace, so when you are join another party do not carry regalia of your former party.Remember our friends are still grieving and in deep shock. Lets support ELC in his quest to unity Zambia.

  30. AWE BA LIFWEKELO WE DO NOT WANT SPIES IN PF AND PLS DO NOT TEMPER WITH LUNGU’S HEALTH NGA EFYO BAMITUMINE.BWEKELENI ICHILILO TAMULAPASA.

  31. THANKS LIFYEKELO FOR LEAVING HH AND HIS GOONS

I was waiting to hear that news. There are more to follow suit and let this so-called Economist know that he cannot fool people all the time. I have heard of many people deciding to hold on and wait for a replacement at the Party’s helm. Surely, we do not need HH as UPND President. He has outlived his usefulness. Even bird in the air can sense the situation. Where is the Party going with HH? Nowhere. BB.
