Makasa backs Igesund for Chipolopolo job

Share

Ex-Chipolopolo defender Hilary Makasa believes South African coach Gordon Igesund is suitable for the vacant Zambia job.

Igesund, who coached Makasa at defunct South African club Manning Rangers in 1998, is the favourite to become the next Chipolopolo coach.

Other coaches short-listed for the post include former Ghana tactician Goran Stevanovic‚ Frenchman Sebastein Desabre and Swiss national Raoul Savoy.

“He is a very good coach. He coached me at Manning Rangers before I joined Ajax Cape Town,” Makasa said.

“He is the best man for the Chipolopolo job. He can do the job,” the Roan United coach said.

Igesund is one of the most successful coaches in South Africa after winning four league titles with four different sides‚ including unfashionable Manning Rangers and Santos.

He also lifted the league trophy with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former winger finished runner-up in the league as well with Ajax Cape Town and Moroka Swallows‚ after which he was appointed Bafana coach in 2012 after several near-misses in the past.

As Bafana Bafana coach, Igesund guided South Africa to the quarterfinals of the 2013 Africa Cup where they lost on post-match penalties to Mali.

  1. We are judging Igesund on his past glory. He hasn’t been successful since he took over Bafana Bafana.. I think this not a solution. Chipolopolo needs a coach who is going to lift the mindset and morale of current players. Igesund is not that man, at least not in his current state. Any way mu Zambia buga ni buga…

  2. Ba LT why always giving Igesund space its like that your choice give us the back ground for all the coaches who were shortlisted.

  3. I DONT WANT HIM, put Lwandamina as permanet if you dont have money. He can do well if he focused 100% on national team

  4. No Chicken George is not World Class. He has a lot to learn. We dont need a coach who is learning. We need a coach who is well trained and super ambitious

  5. George is ok for COSAFA level of games. I have noticed that he never has a Plan B. ?Those two holding midfielders he plays are an excuse for lack of attacking nous. If not Igesund at least lets get that former Ghana coach, he’s a level higher than all of them.
