UDF leader Miles Sampa has written to President Edgar Lungu asking to re-join the Patriotic Front.

In an open letter, Mr Sampa who left the PF in January 2016 and founded the UDF said he went astray after losing late Michael Sata whom he considered as his mentor and father figure.

Mr Sampa whose last position in the PF government was that of Deputy Commerce Minister said he is now not seeking or expecting any position or appoint in government.
Below is Mr Sampa’s letter.

To: The PF President, PF Secretary General(SG), Members of the Central Committee (MCC) and the PF General membership

REF: Rejoining PF

Today I woke up with deep reflection on my recent past. I realize that I went astray. From the date I lost my mentor and father figure, my actions have been irrational and superseded by emotions. I deeply regret it all and marks as a solid lesson.

Despite effort from some senior officials, there was a counter internal stronger force that led me away from a party which is home to me. I walked away from my bonafide political family and my conscience has not been clear since.

In all my past actions, I did not seek God’s intervention. I have since had divine and spiritual engagement with a number Pastors and other people of God who have helped me see my errors of which I take full responsibility.

As I return to where I belong, I neither seek nor expect any position or appointment. All I ask for is your forgiveness.

I further wish to apologize unreservedly to all that I may have injured directly or indirectly in the past or those that may disagree with my current decision. I only wish to be true to myself and to all.

      Only allow him to be a free member of the party.

      That is all I can say, don’t come and say you were not told.

      He vigorously supported HH, but one can only guess that he must have see something terribly wrong with HH that has caused him to start repenting.

      Lifwekelo took long to see the problem, but at least he also finally managed to see that there was something serious wrong with HH’s thing and his leadership.

    • This is absolutely disgraceful. It only shows that Zambian politicians are not well disciplined and their actions seem to be purely motivated by self interests , rather than any deep person convictions. Most likely, this guy is only trying to rejoin PF because he sees they are the baddest gang on the block now, who’ve managed to wrestle election victory from UPND. So what convictions led him to leave PF in the first place and what has changed since? Because if it’s the fact that he felt they were corrupt and had no vision for the country–well, they still are corrupt and visionless. Nothing has changed with them. But he decided to shamelessly crawl back to them to rejoin the gravy train because he’s decided that, if you can’t win them, join them, as the saying goes. And this…

  26. Sampa and GBM brought some votes to UPND. Places like Chingola, UPND did very well. The problem in Zambian politics is that for businessmen in transport industry and alike, Govt is the sole customer. People like Sampa are hint hard in opposition. People like HH and Scott are in business less dependent on govt as major customer. Also one needs businesses with ties to many industries with various multinationals. That way, one can survive.

Sampa has written a very flowery letter trying hard to show how repentant he has become, I dont know from which sin he committed but the truth of the matter is that his business can not survive without Govt contracts hence eating his own vomit. It is a good business decision but politically he will find it very hard to reassert himself to his former glory. This shows that decisions made on impulse are very costly. A lesson to all.

    Mmmmmmm, PF advance with caution. A man’s character is all he has to influence his reputation positively or negatively. In the case of Sampa, Masebo, Scott too much water has gone under the bridge. It’s been a long protracted fight which means Trust is broken. This is really President Lungu’s call. Let him show us his brand of Wisdom

    Fortunately Zambia is now in the hands of true democrats. PF should thus respond to the plight of Mr. Sampa, Dr. Banda – including Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa who earlier acknowledged election victory soon after the ECZ declared President Lungu the Winner.

  40. In 2015 it was Sampa who made Pf with a narrow margin(27000) votes against Upnd. In 2016 it’s Sampa again working together with other 1mbeciles who made Pf win with a narrow victory. In 2021 it will be this same Kant who will cause Pf again win with a slim victory. If Pf leadership does not learn from the past which this boy has bestowed upon them then they risk been pushed back to opposition earlier than they planned.   69. None of late President Sata relatives deserve to share in the benefits of PF. As a matter of fact all those relatives Sata sent into diplomatic service and other government must be recalled immediately and replaced with trusted allies. Look at Mulenga Sata like Gabriel Namulambe, these people don’t deserve be enjoying government contracts. Even Dr Kaseba she is now PF because her relations are in diplomatic positions. I would rather we JK and the dununa reverse band serve in those positions. Miles needed to review his connections with cartel which he has not talked about. His apology has not gone far enough. This boy and his master Guy almost cost ECL the election in 2015.
