IFCC President Bishop Simon Chihana says unconfirmed reports that President Lungu has dismissed senior officers from named provinces is a recipes for increased fears of a divided Zambia and has called on the President to address the matter for purposes of clarification.
Bishop Chihana said civil servants especially those from the security wings are scared of losing their jobs as a result of the rumours that some of their tribes men have been purged from the service.
He said it is prudent for the President to address the issue because it has a bearing on the security of the nation and that ethnic divisions must be discouraged in the country.
“The unconfirmed reports that President Lungu has dismissed more than 300 (three hundred) senior officers from their jobs because of originating from the named provinces, Northwestern, Western and Southern, increases the fears of a torn Zambia. People working in the civil service and the security of the nation have developed unprecedented fears concerning their positions and jobs if they are coming from the named provinces.
“President Lungu must come out in the open and address these fears which have developed. The President must address them because they have a bearing on the security of the nation and also people of various regions may continue to feel as one Zambia and one people. Ethnic divisions must be discouraged at all costs by everyone of us and the President has an opportunity to show the nation that he is national and not regional and that the unconfirmed reports of dismissing senior officers from the security wings of our nation is false,” he said.
He added that if true, dismissing such a number of civil servants does nothing but simply create a huge danger for his leadership as the country is very big.
“It must also be known and understood that dismissing such a number does not bring any cleansing of any kind, but simply creates a very big danger for his own leadership, because Zambia is very big and many of us Zambians are intermarried and therefore information is as close as the mouth is to ear and it is very vital to promote peace and unity of our country among all people.
“And the demonstration President Lungu has given by standing to defend the vice President, Mrs. Inonge Wina is good for the country and he must do more than that, by not dismissing the senior officers just because they come from Southern, Northwestern and Western provinces,” he said.

ECL had warned all government workers who were engaging in active politics to stop………if they didn’t, it matters less if they come from the three provinces mentioned, rules are rules they should be fired.
