5 jostle for Mushindamo, Kalumbila council chairperson polls

Share

Two candidates have successfully filed in their nominations for the position of council chairperson for Mushindamo district while three are vying for the same position in Kalumbila district in North-western province.

Peter Kapamba of the Patriotic Front (PF) and Luckson Mulumbi of the United Party for National Development (UPND) successfully filed in their nomination papers before Mushindamo district returning officer Adraida Daka at Kasapa School yesterday.

Mushindamo district electoral officer Musonda Mumpa confirmed the development in a telephone interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Solwezi.

In Kalumbila district, Olix Kakwaya of the UPND, Rodgers Ngombelo of the People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) and Slavin Mwanaute of the PF successfully filed in their nominations before district returning officer Geoffrey Kaleji at Mwajimambwe school.

Speaking to ZANIS, PF candidate Slavin Mwanaute pledged to reinforce ward development committees in the development of the district because they are key stakeholders.

And deputy PF campaign manager Richard Taima appealed to Kalumbila voters to vote for Mr. Mwanaute because it was only the party in government that can develop the new district.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) postponed the elections of council chairpersons for Mushindamo and Kalumbila districts after the official separation from Solwezi district last year.

Elections in the two districts have been slated for Thursday, November 17th, 2016.

  1. “And deputy PF campaign manager Richard Taima appealed to Kalumbila voters to vote for Mr. Mwanaute because it was only the party in government that can develop the new district”
Spewing of such nonsense should have vanished with UNIP. Can Taima then explain why Luapula is one of the poorest and least developed provinces? By the way, Southern Province is more prosperous and has better quality of life than these so-called PF strongholds.

  2. People in North Western Province should be weary of those coming from other provinces to vie for positions in their Districts because these people have no agenda to develop this area but to make it a conduit for siphoning funds from the province to line up their pockets.
Are there no indigenous people from the province to Run the affairs of these areas?
