Thieves steal ZANIS Cameras in Choma, halts operations

Share

OPERATIONS at the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) offices
in Choma have been paralysed following the theft of all the
professional cameras and a 60 inch television which are used in the
production of news from the entire Southern Province.
The thieves dismantled the locks to push their entry into the office
where there were two professional Sony PD 175 cameras and an LG 60
inch television set.
ZANIS acting provincial officer Charles Mangwato said the two cameras
carter for the entire province for television news production and
documentaries.
Southern Province Permanent Secretary Sibanze Simuchoba described the
theft as disheartening considering the fact that the ZANIS offices
were situated at the provincial administration which was guarded 24
hours by the Zambia Police.

Mr Simuchoba said the incident is the second in a space of two years that the
offices at the Provincial administration had been broken into.

He urged the Police officers to be alert on duty when they are
supposed to unlike the current situation where they do not report for
work.
“What is disheartening is that ZANIS is at the Provincial
Administration which was  guarded by the protective unit of Zambia
Police  its quiet clear the police guard the provincial administration
more in absence than in presence.
“Many a time you would come in early evening you won’t find any sign
of police officer on guard, and this happens  when the police are
indolent like the way they have shown we have nowhere to run to.”

“The Police command have to up their  game  and start guarding  this
office with the seriousness it deserves, this is the second time
thieves have broken into the provincial administration offices  under
the noise of the police who don’t report for work when they are
supposed to,” he said.
He  appealed  for temporal equipment to be sent to the Zanis so that
it could be able to highlight the government development projects
being undertaken in Southern province.
When contacted for a comment outgoing Southern Province Police
Commissioner Godwin Phiri said the matter had been reported but did
not have full details by press time.
“The matter is being reported but I don’t have full details,” he said.

  1. It looks like the same people who use the equipment arranged for its theft. If there’s 24 hour security and the thieves took their time to pick the locks then it is an inside job. In any case anything that helps to reduce PF propaganda is most welcome. We will not miss any PF news about Southern Province.

  2. Reminds one of the time when there was only one Rhino left in Zambia which was guarded by a soldier 24/7 yet the whole thing disappeared without even footprints.

  3. WHY BOTHER TO SEND NEW EQUIPMENT TO THIS BACKWARD AREA, WHERE EVEN GOVERNMENT
PROPERTY IS REGARDED AS PF EQUIPMENT? LET THEM ROT UNTIL THEY WAKE UP TO THE FACT THAT
GOVERNMENT PROPRTY, IS GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. IT HAS NO POLITICAL TAG TO IT.
