Choma’s Lyn Matebeto gutted

Share

CHOMA’s Lyn’s Matebeto restaurant has partially been burnt following a
fire that started in a storeroom today.

In the last few days property worth millions of Kwacha has been
destroyed in a series of fires across the country and the Zambia
Police has since offered a K100, 000 reward to any person who will
provide information to lead to the arrest of people behind the setting
ablaze of markets and public places.

An assortment of items that were in the storeroom were all destroyed
but quick action by some call boys from Maamba Station saved the
entire premises which has a grass thatched roofs  from further
destruction.

The call boys mobilised themselves and quickly rushed to the scene and
put off the fire using water from the nearby Choma Museum and Craft
Centre and some water which the restaurant had stored.

The fire brigade which was called when the fire started only arrived
at the scene complaining of not having water which was to the
disbelief of the onlookers.

One of the call boys who spoke on behalf of his other colleagues Swazi
Hantontola said there was need to have fire hydrants in the central
business district.

Mr Hantontola urged the fire department to always have enough water
whenever they go to a fire scene unlike what happened yesterday.

“This fire department is sleeping how do they come to the scene
without water, Imagine if we did not rush here this place could have
been destroyed,” he said.

Ms Nancy Bwalya chef said the fire started from the storeroom and when
they noticed it she quickly called Zesco and the fire brigade.

She expressed disappointment at the fire brigade who arrived at the
scene complaining of not having water when the premises could have
been destroyed.

“If it were not for those call boys from Maamba Station this place
could have been destroyed, the fire brigade came but did not offer any
service as they didn’t have water,” she said.

When contacted for a comment Choma Municipal Council Public Relations
officer Ramona Phiri said the district had fire hydrants and promised
to get back for further details.

“We have fire hydrants but will get back to you as I am not in the
office,” he said

  1. Why is Kaponya (HH) doing this to his own people? Hakayobela will go to hell. This guy will have it rough.
    Accept the elections outcome Kaponya.

    • My first thought was about the person in the stores, when you want to accuse anyone. And it’s ldiocy of the highest level to imagine HH, the man you don’t even know and he doesn’t know you, could do this.

    • @1 Kudos, NOTHING shows it is HH. This appears to be a result of POOR ELECTRICAL PROTECTION for the building which could have led to poor resistance to a likely POWER SURGE after a power outage from load shedding!!

    • Am no fire brigade expert. But shouldn’t fire tenders always have water in case of an emergency. How do they work? Its like they always want to first fill up when they recieve a call that there is a fire somewhere instead of dashing to the fire site they go look for water first. Is that how they are supposed to work?

    • @kadoyo you are an ediot, you lack capacity to debate issues at hand and bring in non related politics. You don’t have to be an arshole or a Dickk head all the time, grow up already!

    • Unfortunately for the country the PF is full of kudos who see politics in everything,no wonder our country cannot move on as these non perfomers see HH behind every tree.Like the last 5yrs they will spend the next 5yrs talking about HH.HH you are a man, they can only beat you in elections thru cheating,we shall keep voting for you.

  2. That thief Sylvia ma roads purported to have imported fire tenders she brought second hand with capacity for 2500 litres of water….the fire fighting services in Zambia need to be revived…2021 Zambia Forward

    • Buck Teeth d!ck
You don’t have to bring in tribe you spineless cre.tin. Immature bi.got. I hope you have no offspring you careless mo.ron, you would contaminate the earth with your baseless bitterness. If you do have offspring, I pray your wife is sweet level headed woman otherwise, chi.kala your genes should end with you. Uncultured airhead!!

  3. And THIS IS A COUNCIL RUN BY UPND COUNCILORS!! WHERE IS HOPE THAT THEY CAN RUN THINGS BETTER IF THEY CANNOT PROVIDE WATER FOR FIRE TENDERS? On a BROADER SCALE, every GOVT HAS FAILED TO EQUIP COUNCILS ADEQUATELY and each time there is FIRE WE JUST WATCH HELPLESSLY!!

  4. THE GOVERNMENT MUST REPATRIATE THOSE ARSON VICTIMS TO AREAS WHERE THERE’S NO TRIBALISM. OTHERWISE WHEN THOSE TRIBAL CHAPS FINISH BURNING THE TRIBAL VICTIMS BUSINESSES, THEY WILL TURN TO MURDERING THEM. AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS OTHER TRIBES WILL START REVENGING AND THE SITUATION WILL BE WORSE THAN ANTICIPATED. THIS IS ALL HH AND TEAM. HH HAS COMPLETELY FAILED IN POLITICS AND HE WANTS THOSE WINNING TO FAIL, TOO. THAT’S THE BEHAVIOUR OF FAILURES- EVEN IN SCHOOLS. SO, THE GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE THIS ARSON ISSUE SERIOUSLY.

  5. This is a no brainer. Since the Fire Brigade throughout the Country are evidently not capable, a certain category of people in Zambia, found in every town and settlement, has spotted a weakness in the system and is secretly starting these fires, and then getting credit and cash rewards for quickly moving in and putting the fires out. Guess who these are. Easy-peasy .

  6. No one here is congratulating the Call boys! Those were gallant boys ! Keep it up guys for your act of bravery!!! You surely deserve a prize!!!

  7. fire fire fire every week. A certain crop of well known sect is behind this and yet Lungu is just folding his hands. it has not have happened in Zambia before. can’t you see that HH and group are responsible.

  8. I now believe that upnd is behind these fires!!!i wonder why upnd cadres can be bitter like this!!surely, will these fires make hh zambian president?once these tonga f00ls are arrested by police for doing this rubish, they cry and call president Edgar Lungu all sorts of names!!!WHY CANT UPND CADRES BEHAVE FOR ONCE?PLEASE ALMIGHTY GOD,PUNISH HH NEVER TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY AS A REWARD FOR HIS DAILY EVIL DEEDS AGAINST MOTHER ZAMBIA!!!

  9. THE TEMPERATURE IS TOO HIGH AND COULD BE CAUSING SOME OF THESE FIRES. THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE SWITCHING OFF AND ON OF POWER BY ZESCO. THERE IS ALSO POOR WORKMANSHIP BY ELECTRICIANS WHEN THEY ARE CONNECTING ELECTRIC CABLES. THERE IS NO STANDARD TO FOLLOW. EVEN UNQUALIFIED CHAPS CALL THEMSELVES ELECTRICIANS. THERE IS NO POLITICAL PARTY THAT CAN BE CAUSING FIRES DURING THE DAY TIME WHEN THE OWNERS OF THE PREMISES ARE PRESENT. IF YOU THINK EVERYTHING BAD THAT HAPPENS IN THE COUNTRY IS CAUSED BY THE OPPOSITION THEN YOU WILL CONTINUE FAILING TO RUN THE COUNTRY. THE FIRE BRIGADE FAILED TO SAVE KAINGU’S GUEST HOUSE IN CHOMA WHEN THEY WERE CALLED. THEY DID NOT HAVE WATER. WHY IS THIS DEPARTMENT EXISTING IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO GET WATER WHEN IT IS NEEDED? ACTUALLY THE FIRE ENGINE IS SUPPOSED…

  10. …. TO BE ON STANDBY WAITING TO BE CALLED ANYTIME AND MUST HAVE SOME WATER. CHOMA DAM IS NOT FAR AND THEY CAN GET WATER FROM THERE AND KEEP IT THERE FIRE ENGINE. PF HAS APPOINTED PEOPLE ON TRIBAL GROUNDS AND THEY ARE FAILING TO PERFORM. THAT PHIRI COULD NOT GIVE A SATISFACTORY ANSWER BECAUSE SHE IS NOT THERE TO SERVE THE PEOPLE OF CHOMA. THEY HAVE GIVEN THEMSELVES JOBS THAT THEY CAN NOT PERFORM.

  11. If its true the tender had NO water then why did the driver have to burn fuel for nothing? Please hear his side of story and if not satisfying show him the door.
