PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu invited more Chinese investment in Zambia as the country remains an oasis of peace and tranquility and one of the most politically stable countries in Africa.

The Head of State said the Chinese investment in Zambian infrastructure had played a major role in the nation’s economic development.

These include the Tanzania Zambia Railways, The Chambishi Lusaka East Multi-facility Economic Zone, and the rehabilitation of the hydro-electricity power plant at Kafue Gorge and the establishment of the Lumwana mining project among others.

President Lungu was speaking when he graced the Beneficial Cooperation and Common Development gala dinner at the Inter-continental Hotel at the weekend.

The Head of State encouraged more investment from China, stating that there were still a lot of opportunities in the mining, tourism and agriculture sectors to be explored.

He named other projects as the new government complex building, the Levy Mwanawasa stadium and the National Heroes stadium and construction and rehabilitation of several roads.

Speaking at the occasion, the Head of State acknowledged the warm bilateral relations that existed between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Zambia which date as far back as 1964 when Zambia gained her independence.
He expressed appreciation at the nature of development cooperation between the two countries as well as the assistance rendered by the Chinese government in various sectors of the Zambian economy.

President Lungu said there was no doubt that cordial friendship and cooperation had grown from strength to strength through active participation in political, economic and social fields.

The President made particular reference to the implementation plans made during the various fora on China-Africa cooperation held since its inception in 2000.

He expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for choosing Zambia as one of the first countries to benefit from one of the projects to establish five trade and economic cooperation Zones in Africa between 2007 and 2009.
He noted that China was the third largest investor in Zambia with over 280 business enterprises with an investment portfolio estimated at US$5.3billion.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Mr Yang Youmin said Zambia and China shared the same aspiration for National Development and that the two countries were complementary in national development.

Mr Youmin hailed the solid foundation of friendship and cooperation the two nations had built gradually.
The event was well attended by among others, cabinet ministers, Senior Government officials, Chinese investors in Zambia and Zambian business community.

  1. Ama infestazi encroaching our land in the name of investment. Here in Australia diners by prime minister are held for the local investors. They promote their own people. That is why you will never find a Chinese company getting a govt project to construct a road or bridge. It is all done by the local people. technology and skills are transferred and utilized locally. President ECL should also oraginse dinner with the local small business people and share govt programs. We have had enough of these so called foreign investors putting our leaders in pockets and making us suffer. We need a leader who will put Zambia first. Don’t know who, maybe me. YOU NEVER KNOW. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA

    • As much as we don’t like foreigners taking up all government contractors, us Zambians are the ones who are letting this go on due to our poor job ethics. Ngamwawinako ka contract you get paid upfront and start splashing the money around, new vehicle, new girlfriend etc. For the last few years I have been contracting my fellow Zambians to do some work for me but it has been total agony, pilfering of materials, poor workmanship, when they get paid they forget about work, wanting to get paid at the end of each shift etc. We should seriously reflect and change our work attitude and then people or the government will start taking us serious. Secondly, we should learn to build wealth than spend everything we earn.

  2. Its so painful to helplessly watch whilst our country is being auctioned to Chinese. Today the population of Chinese in Chambeshi to locals is 2 to 1. The whole presidency & Cabinet is in the pockets of Chinese. Large tracts of land are being sold at a give away price to Chinese when they are not allowed to own even a small plot in their own country.

Just the other day, a Chinese national demolished a house belonging to Muvi-tv director over a disputed plot even when the matter was still in high court. Plenty Zambians are being displaced by Chinese nationals because we have no functional Govt in place. Can a Zambian own any property in China? NO!!!

South Africa has now banned foreigners from owning land & are now fighting for land redistribution from Boers to blacks. You that’s…

    • CONT’D

South Africa has now banned foreigners from owning land & are now fighting for land redistribution from Boers to blacks. You that’s when u r encouraging the auctioning of the country in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. MCHSSXXXM!!!!

Blunders being made by PF will take 100 years or more to redress.

  3. When are we going to have an initiative that promotes our Zambian business owners to invest in other countries? Are we seriously just going to partition our country needlessly like this??? Soon broom-making outfits will buy tracts of land to grow grass and manufacture the brooms –

  4. ‘as the country remains an oasis of peace and tranquility and one of the most politically stable countries in Africa’. Not any more. Immediately the PF came into power, were have witnessed the worst violence we have never seen and the rule of law thrown in the dustbin.

  5. Mufasa try writing that garbage and Zimbabwe concerning ZANU-PF and see what happens to you and your kindred. That is when you will know the meaning of a repressive regime. PF may not be efficient and effective at managing the economic welfare of our country, but they are not repressive.
They are actually more incompetent than anything else.
Zambia is still very stable politically compared to Angola, Mozambique, Congo DR, CAR, Ethiopia, etc, just to mention a few unstable countries.

    • You do understand that gifts given to Presidents (and the like) at such occasions are “STATE GIFTS”and not personal, right? When he leaves office, those gifts stays. Learn how these things work!!!
