Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba

Government says the implementation of the Diaspora Policy is on course.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba says government has taken cognizance that there is a direct link between the Diaspora Policy and the Dual Citizenship clause in the republican constitution.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Kalaba said government’s aim is to ensure that Zambians living in the Diaspora participate in the emancipation of the country.
Mr. Kalaba says government through his Ministry wants Zambians living abroad to among other things own businesses and land in the country.

He added that his Ministry is also in the process of setting up a Diaspora desk for which it will soon head hunt for a Director.

  1. Diaspora desk for which it will soon head hunt for a Director? Do we really need it? I guess Zambia has pressing issues to sort out than this.

    • We don’t need a desk. Instead, we need efficient and expedient processes. Make it easy for every Zambian, at home and abroad, to conduct business and real estate transactions.

The current processes are not good for anyone except politicians.

    • Why is Kalaba wearing a badge with our Coat of Arms and not the Zambian flag? I though the Coat of Arms was reserved for the man who lives at Nkwazi house!

      Vinachinja?

  2. @ Kevin its your country. Help it move forward now……knowing PF though we will be waiting a while. Some Zambians have already started the process ages ago.

  3. Zambians in Diaspora remit $300 million, a Quarter of Zambia’s GDP–THIS WAS IN 2011.
My guess is probably around $500 million this year( 2016.)
Diaspora is a very productive constituency.
Other countries have tapped into their potential and Zambia should emulate.

  4. Will the Director come from the diaspora or will they appoint a cadre from here? Anyway we are not shaken 2021 Zambia Forward under new leadership…

    • They will appoint a dumb cadre for sure, it will just be another tool to reward royal diaspora PF cadres, a rare senseless breed.

  5. Passport renewal for Zambians in diaspora has become a living hell. You need to look into this and make it easy for Zambians wanting to renew their passports. Zambia is supposed to be helping it’s citizens abroad and not frustrating them. The Zambians abroad remit millions of dollars to Zambia, and thus contribute to the country’s economy. It’s therefore incumbent upon the government to help it’s citizens abroad in every way possible, including making it easy to renew passports. Take time to review the new, needless and frustrating bureaucracy you have introduced, that has turned passport renewal into a nightmare.

  6. Mya you comment is misplaced; first and foremost I am not Zambian. Secondly, know PF they use every opportunity to be corrupt. You should closely follow the news and you will understand what I am talking about.

  7. Ccitizenship bill that will authorize dual citizenship among many other citizenship issues was introduced in parliament in may shortly before the disolution of the last parliament but up to now nothing much has happened .its not yet a law.its still on committe stage .kaya mayb next year december thats wen it wil become law.its just taking too long.every day i check on th parliament website to check th progress of this bill.i always get disapointed
