Zesco United added more pressure on Nkana’s hopes of a second place finish on the FAZ Super Division log after they demolished demoted Nakambala Leopards 4-0 away on Wednesday in Mazabuka.
The outgoing champions exchange places with Nkana in second and third place respectively as the battle for the number two spot heads for a photo-finish this Saturday.
Defender David Owino converted a 33rd minute penalty to score his sixth goal of the season for Zesco.
Winger Kasashi Lupiya netted his debut Zesco goal in the 43rd minute to see the visitors take a 2-0 halftime lead.
Striker Idris Mbombo added the third goal in the 47th minute to take his league tally to 10 goals before midfielder Cletus Chama completed the rout ten minutes later.
Zesco rise to 69 points, two ahead of Nkana heading into Saturday’s final matches for the two sides that will decide who represents Zambia in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.
Zesco will face Lumwana Radiants away on December 10 while Nkana make the short trip to Ndola to face Forest Rangers on the same date.
