Zambia and DR Congo on Wednesday clash in a rare junior level meeting in the semifinal of the 2016 Cosafa U20 Cup in South Africa.
DR Congo, who are taking part in this year’s tournament as guest side, advanced to a last four date against Zambia after beating Malawi 1-0 in a pre-semifinal playoff on Tuesday thanks to a 25th minute goal by Nathan Lusuki who recorded his second goal of the tournament.
Zambia beat Mozambique 2-0 in their formality pre-semifinal playoff against Mozambique on the same date thanks to goals from Joseph Phiri and Fashion Sakala in the 22nd and 80th minutes respectively.
Sakala’s goal took his tally of the tournament to three in as many games played.
Beston Chambeshi side has now scored a total of ten goals and conceded one heading into their big showdown with DR Congo.
DR Congo ended their group stage matches unbeaten on 7 points from three games.
Zambia on the other hand advanced with a one hundred per cent record on 9 points that will be tested by their northern rivals whom they meet for the first time in a competitive match at Under-20 level.
Hosts South Africa will face Angola in the other semifinal match on Wednesday for a place in the final on December 16.
Zambia are the most successful team in the competition with ten wins, Zimbabwe have six while South Africa have five titles.
