President Edgar Lungu says he is dissapointed with some independent Members of Parliament who he said are conniving with the opposition to frustrate Government efforts in the provision of service delivery in the country.

Speaking when he addressed Luangwa District PF party leaders in the District Conference today in Luangwa District, President Lungu said it was sad that Feira Constituency in Luangwa was among those that voted for an independent Member of Parliament who is now seemingly performing contrary to the wishes of the electorate.

The President told the PF Party Officials that it was unfortunate that some Independent Members of Parliament were now siding with the opposition to frustrate Government programmes of improving the well being of the people.

Mr. Lungu said he has lost trust in the Independent Members of Parliament who earlier indicated their willingness to work with his government once voted.

There is no reason why the Independent Members of Parliament could side with the opposition in demanding for a double allowance of K3, 000 for a day instead of the usual K1, 500 just because the chief whip of parliament presented a motion that they should be sitting for the whole day to wind up the debate on the budget, he said.

President Lungu called on the party leadership not to embrace the independent members of parliament saying there were a let down to the people who voted for them.

He urged Luangwa Council Chairman, Austin Bota to assist the party by ensuring that the PF programmes are achieved and appreciated in the District.

And PF National Deputy Secretary General, Mumbi Phiri has advised Party officials in the area not to have personal agendas saying time for politicking was now over until 2021.

Ms Phiri said party members should be seen working as a team with the old and new members so that people benefit from the PF Government programmes as time for politicking was now over.

Meanwhile Luangwa District Council Chairman, Austin Bota has appealed to the President to consider constructing some houses in the area under the newly created Ministry of Infrastructure Development and housing.

Mr Bota said the District was growing at a fast rate because of the developments that the PF Government has initiated in the area hence the need for more housing units to accommodate workers.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu has assured electorates that their voting for him into power will not go in vain.

Speaking when he addressed party officials in Luangwa District, President Lungu reaffirmed his commitment to deliver his campaign promises reassuring his supporters of his agenda to develop Zambia.

“Your vote was not in vain and I assure you we are on the move to deliver. The party and government are working and let us move to ensure we are ready for 2021,” President Lungu said.

The Head of State who received a thunderous welcome from enthusiastic residents is in Luangwa on his continuous grassroots consultation and inspection.

During his tour, President Lungu also inspected the newly built rural health post as well as a dip tank for animal disease control.

The Head of State also visited the newly built Luangwa District hospital a first of its kind since independence.

President Lungu is later expected to address traders at Luangwa market.

    • It is their democratic right.

Why coerce them ? They are not PF, they are independent.
An independent MP doesn’t have to nonsensically agree with you Mr. President.

      You have lost the plot.

      Thanks

      BB2014

    • Wrong Audience Mr President! You need to admonish your PF secretary general he is the root of all this nonsense and he is the problem not the independent MP’s.

    • Mr President, that’s why they are called INDEPENDENT. They are supposed to think independently. They do not represent the wishes of the PF! Eishhhh

    • Is that mvunga with Eddy in the fifth photo, boy vodka can disfigure faces, i remember during campaigns there was a call by pf for pro pf independent candidates not to use pf regalia in their campaigns, what has happened now for pf to recognize them as a part of them.

    • Guys read the story again. These independent MPs are holding government to ransom for not being given the K3,000/day allowance they have demanded instead of the legal and normal K1,500/day simply because they were told, like the rest of the MPs including those from PF, to put in some extra hours in parliament to wind up some works. They can side with whoever they want but it should be based on principle and not on unjustified allowances. The extra effort they are putting in is for the people who voted for them. Lungu can easily give them K5,000/day if he wants their support but that’s not good for independent mindedness that we all want to see. Principles gentlemen!

    • When will Lungu become a national Leader, his disposition is always of a PF cadre and forever campaigning. This explains why decent people with different ideas chose to stay away from his childish gatherings.

  1. You are the best ever of all presidents. Frankly you speak, seriously you analyse situations and humbly you mix with all regardless of their status in society. WE SIMPLY LOVE YOUR WAYS.

  2. “Lungu…..urged Luangwa Council Chairman, Austin Bota to assist the party by ensuring that the PF programmes are achieved and appreciated in the District.”

Which “programmes” are these? PF programmes or Government programmes?

The PF programmes I know are stealing elections, misuse of public funds, corruption and incompetence.

Are those the ones Lungu wants implemented? For more money to add to his stolen 23.million?

  3. The only thing that attracted people earlier on was the Kavulamanja graves but now after the PF made the road better and built the hospital the Luangwa district is seeing increased activity. Mphuka is my chief. I urge him to insist the mine opens and provide parallel means of income to the fishing “industry” which in my view is casual but still is able to service many including those from Zaire and Congo.

  4. That is why the MPs are Independent. They do not believe in PF Policies or UPND Policies and what is wrong with that? Edward does not understand the roles of Independent or Opposition MPs. They are there as watchdogs of social justice. There are there to provide checks and balances and making govt accountable to the people who voted them into power. Edward’s election win was challenged thru a petition to Concourt and that Petition is still to be heard. Edward should prove in Court that he won the Election fairly and openly. Why is Edward blocking the Petition if he has nothing to hide? He should come clean on this Election dispute!

    • Observer are you HH? You are truly obsessed with the one existent presidential petition!
There is no where the HH &UPND petition is headed. Mostly it is simply a ploy by HH to remain relevant in the UPND. Most independents campaigned for president Edgar Lungu and that is why they won.
Anyway, in Zambia it has become highly fashionable to oppose the government on everything. In politics there are always working alliances and these have to be respected to avoid treachery.

  5. I talk on behalf of the majority who voted Edgar into office not by hook or crook but his attitude towards most things. I alone can not make him win elections but together we can.

    • Good, very good. This is the dununa regret that we are talking about. We warned you people BUT you did not want to listen. You reap what you sow. That’s why we were saying most of the people who were celebrating PF’s victory did not know what they were not doing.

    • Just admit that you voted based on tribe. You are either a northerner or easterner. You cannot imagine any other tribe ruling Zambia, even if you are starving and blacked out.

  6. Every well meaning person who means well for Zambia can not support the mediocrity that PF has brought to Zambia I therefore recommend the Independent MPs for that decision to stand on what they believe in

    • Independent MPs in Zambia do not believe in anything, they stood because they were popular but could not be adopted by any party, if anything they are just there in parley to chew the money. Elsewhere, independent MPs are the most vocal in assemblies as they usually have no one to answer to.

  7. This guy must shake off UNIPist posturing before the curtains of modernity close him off the stage. Independent means exactly that. You must negotiate them back to your side, not threaten them into submission. What a pathetic set of tools we have in this country. 21st Century with 17th Century political attitudes. Appalling!

  8. What does he honestly expect from them? Those are bitter men and women who were not adopted by his party but whom the electorate wanted.

  9. Which votes Mr. when you imposed your self on people? You are yet to face challenges because you deprived voters from their choice. You can’t mock God.

  10. already on the road sir?what time do you sit in your office and work, people are suppose to come to you and brief you it hasnt even been a week since joburg and u are at it already from there rufunsa…….this pattern doesnt instill confidence in your governing capabilities.

    • He is interacting with the grassroots to have first hand information. He doesn’t want people to lie to him and then turn their backs on him when he fires them like CK

  11. A Lungu, did you think being a president is easy? The opposition minions will start laughing at us if we become cry babies like them. Just work my president.
Most importantly, address the corruption in government. As someone said above you are losing the plot and the minions are having a field day.

  12. I am not a politician but I want to believe that Edgar is going up to 2021. Can someone from upnd prove to me PF stole the votes? Where, how and when? Muleumfwa insoni. PF is what it is today because ba Sata (mhsrip) started organising the party and campaigning five yrs ahead of the ruling party by then. The courts will not change anything. Democratic rights ya mafi sata:nist HH. I am sure na satan aladabwa ificita behave HH.

    • Ukwete amafi mumeno niwebo. Ninshi akulufyanya HH we mbwa! Wilaisa pano mukunya ifisushi, ngolelanda kulanda fya mano not demonising umuntu otawaishiba. What has HH done to you? Do you even know him? Mulechimona unomwaka wa 2017, mukalanya amenshi mulandu wa Lungu wenu, lolelafye, kantu kobe.

    • @Patriotic

Don’t call it a RANT. This story is about Edgar Lungu. Where is HH in this story? Is HH an independent MP? And who said HH is a satanist? Nga HH ni satanist what about Lungu whom we know he has been brining Sangomas to State House and it is not even a secret? Emafi mumeno ndanda ayoyene! Don’t forget that HH also has almost the same number of millions of supporters as Edgar Lungu and we are not happy to see him insulted for no reason at all. I will accept it nga HH ewufawile or has done something stupid, BUT in this case HH is not even part of the story. Ninshi imwe ba PF teti muyefye kuchimbusu ukwabula ukuponta pali HH? Ni HH wamipela diarrhoea? Ma Jemason yanga munwine lelo mwe bakalukuluku?

    • Agreed! This Mr Kudos has seemed to have seen the light and given up bashing HH for all the ills affecting Zambia!

Well done Mr Kudos, being OBJECTIVE is what makes anyone relevant.

  13. I WAS LISTENING TO THE NEWS AT 07:00 HOURS THIS MORNING CONCERNING THE PRESIDENT’S TRIP TO LUANGWA. I’M HAPPY THE PRESIDENT TOOK TIME TO VISIT THE PEOPLE IN THIS AREA & GAVE THEM ASSURANCE OF RELIEF FOOD, CONNECTION TO NATIONAL GRID. HOWEVER, I’M DEEPLY SADDENED WITH THE THREATS THE PRESIDENT MADE ON FIRING MORE & MORE CIVIL SERVANTS. I FORESEE A SITUATION WHERE INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL BE VICTIMIZED FOR MERELY COMING FROM A PARTICULAR REGION OR FOR MERELY NOT BEING FAVORED BY THOSE WITH CONNECTIONS TO THE POWERS THAT BE. I’M NOT A CIVIL SERVANT BUT WISH TO MAKE AN ERNEST APPEAL TO YOUR EXCELLENCY, PLEASE HALT THESE DISMISSALS & EMBRACE EVERYONE JUST LIKE A CHICKEN DOES. YOU ARE A FATHER OF THE NATION YOUR EXCELLENCY. MOST CIVIL SERVANTS ARE WORKING IN FEAR, A SITUATION WHICH IS CAUSING A…

  14. Independent mps were voting for a double allowance forgetting that their job is service to the people. They have proved that they are their to chew.

  15. What a dull man this Lazy Bum Edgar is …he can not even comment about his SG’s comments on the copperbelt where he is doing the same thing. These empty tins only think of bribing Independent MPs with jobs thank god the Deputy Minsters office was scrapped…you have to just work hard.
To this dull man touring projects is working…how much did this road cost or over shoot out of budget.

  16. Hello! Wasn’t it PF Secretary General Davis Mwila who set the ball rolling on the Copperbelt by instructing PF councillors etc not to work with their respective independent MPs? ECL, take the log out of the PF eye before you go twisting things around to make it look like its the independent MPs who instigated this potential stalemate! We have too many serious more issues on our plate right now…

    • In my opinion, these people don’t meet to discuss these issues before issuing statements. Everyone does what they can for the day and they find themselves retracting and correcting what the other said.

  17. The reason why Zambia is suffering is because opposition parties dont want to work with the government of the day,am not PF or UPND but i believe if we work together we can do it,instead of saying the government has failed, help them to make a better Zambia, oppostions have money why cant they build or bring different structures so that people of Zambia can remember them.

    • @ Mike, r u suggesting that the ruling party PF r using their own money to develop the country? The major problem in Zambia is this notion of calling government a PF Government or MMD Government etc. Once elected, government should just be called the current government. Whatever development they do or initiate, it is tax payers money and not a political party’s money.

    • Chapa the opposition is already working with govt thru parliament what Lungu and the likes of you mean is that for them to work they must agree with PF.PF has not sold any clear policy worth agreeing with. When they inherited a liquid treasury the first statement was that the money would be spent on PF projects by cadres with support from their Chinese friends. The opposition have done their part we now expect govt to show respect and work with them.We have noticed unmatched nationalism and intelligence in most of the opp. mps.

  18. For Davis Mwila to issue the statement not to work with independent MPs on developmental projects, he must have had intelligence to the effect that the MPs were working against the party. As CEO of the party his main job is firstly to protect the party, hence his cautioning his councilors to watch out for the detractors.
The president on the other hand is speaking about independent MP for Feira who is working against government programs. Most likely this statement is also based on intelligence information. The people have to know that their representatives are not in support of government projects.
Most of these MPs are not keen on projects that are implemented outside their control, which is the Constituency Developemnt Fund, because they cannot partake in contracts and sharing of…

  19. When does Lungu ever sit down in his office? If he is not out of the country, he is politicking in some district – inspecting everyday things that his DC’s, provincial ministers etc. should be reporting to him about if there are issues. Talking about ‘PF programmes’ – are they funded from PF coffers. What about government programmes? Issues around the mines, load shedding and the way forward for the economy, perhaps? State of the nation address or press conference (including answering questions) on these matters?

  20. ZAMBIA!!! A LANDLOCKED COUNTRY YET WE SOMEHOW FIND OURSELVES A NATION LOST AT SEA OF POLITICS! WHAT WE NEED NOW IS A CAPTAIN THAT CAN NAVIGATE OUR TREACHEROUS POSITION. GOVERNMENT HAS TO DO ITS JOB WHICH IS TO LEAD. THE OPPOSITION AND INDEPENDENT MPS HAVE TO DO THERE JOB WHICH IS PROVIDE CHECKS AND BALANCES. THE PROBLEM WE HAVE IS PF SEEMS TO HAVE NO MESSAGE OF DIRECTION. PF NEEDS TO SHARE THIER VISION AND LET THE NATION KNOW WHERE WE ARE HEADED. INSTEAD WE SEEM TO HAVE A REACTIONARY GOVERNMENT THAT WAITS FOR SOME ONE TO ATTACK THEM THEN THEY GO ALL OUT. PF NEEDS TO BE IN THE LEAD!!!!

  21. This president is the worst he wants everyone to be under him this is a democracy you drunkard foolish president as Ngoni loyal establishment we will not invite you to next year’s N’chala traditional ceremony because you have no sense. Matako yako

  22. How ironic it is to say time for politicking is over when you are addressing a political rally yourself. I know for a fact that other people will be arrested for greeting people by the roadside.

  23. His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu Please come to Kwacha Constituency in Kitwe and see for yourself how roads are bad especially at Changanamai and United Church of Zambia Areas, then to Bulangililo. and Kazembe Road Mr.President. When you will be coming they will bring the grader to show that every thing is okay. Just surprise them. This road starts from Robolts at Turnpan to Bulangililo then Kazembe Road.

    • I disagree with Jay Jay in terms of Christianity, but when it comes to separation of power, and functioning municipalities doing their own hard work, I wholly agree with him. We need to work for our selves.

  24. The issue at hand is the demand for an increase of allowances. Wait a bit, there might be two things involved in this; firstly, the MPs are UNPATRIOTIC considering the current economic crack down; secondly, the MPs might have information regarding the numerous amount of money being spend on those in government’s positions in regard to the extra time. Let us not rush to condemn or praise any one but let us establish the truth, for it shall set us free.

  25. Three out of three this week the president has blundered in his speech. First the power generation comments, then the ” Umwana ushenda atasha nyina ukynaya ,” Now this. Seriously independent MPs are just that, independent. They are there to work with what makes sense for either the people, or their ” special interests ” hahahaha.

  26. Independent…is line being a Feral wild rabid animal in the wild, a flash card in the pack! They go where they like!

  27. Ba Mvunga, please tell the president the truth. You owe Zambians a clean record and if you are still with Lusaka Club memories, you will do well to advise that which is right.

  28. Am beginning to have second thoughts about HH. But he needs to convince me clearly in one area, that he is not a tribalist. I have given him a 1 year mandate to prove the aforementioned. Effective 1st January, 2017. Then me and many more Zambians will support him.
