It’s disappointing to note that pediatricians are abandoning patients-Musuku

Share

The Zambia Pediatric Association (ZPA) has advised pediatricians against abandoning their patients in wards.

ZPA President John Musuku it is disappointing to note that pediatricians at times overlook their professional and ethical values by abandoning their patients.

Dr. Musuku said this when he officially opened a one day Pediatricians symposium held at Golden Peacock hotel, yesterday.

The symposium has attracted health exparts in the Ministry of Health and them doctors and professors, among other stakeholders.

Dr. Musuku said the symposium is aimed at reflecting, sharing and addressing the challenges the health sector is faced with especially children, mothers, boys and girls.

And Professor Everisto Jelesani in his presentation has called for stronger linkages among the pediatricians, governments and other stakeholders.

Prof. Jelesani urged the experts in the pediatrics unit to voice out their concerns and be heard for affirmative action.

He observed that voicing out would help benefit the next generation to come.

He said that Zambia is allegedly sitting on a time bomb if the high pediatric cases remain un-addressed.

Prof. Jelesani however, is optimistic that Zambia is on the right track to achieving the Sustainable Millennium Goal number four, five and six on addressing the high cases of pediatric deaths.

  1. Don’t you have big enough premises within the hospital grounds to hold symposia and workshops??? Why should it always have to be in glamorous settings? How can you functionally discuss matters of concern away from where the action is? I do not understand. This is why you see failing companies discussing their quarter’s performance with rounds of expensive wines and trinkets to invited guests. Shameful that we are still doing 18th Century things in functional times when resources are so tight!

    • Valid point! Even these half baked Doctors including Mujajati have caught this disease of Soft Corruption and abuse of resources! They still need to be taught to think straight!

    • In the health sector, it’s practically impossible to hold a meeting in your premises. ….patients, nurses and other stakeholders will keep calling you out of the meeting and therefore it becomes just another working day. Holding a meeting away from your premises enables you have a retreat to clearly brainstorm patient welfare

  2. Dr Musuku, thanks for your good intentions. Unfortunately this country has broken down completely. Go to UTH and go to filter clinic, it is hell on earth, that is despite having a President and a Minister of Health. Go there today, go and see the sufferings and come and tell us on this blog.

  3. Good observation Dr Musuku. I support you from an experience.
To your list add the gyneacologists and the midwives at UTH who are busy making money on desperate pregnant mothers.

  4. This is very true, lost my child this year due to negligence from these so called professionals, they just wait for month end to get paid and busy going to private hospitals and abandoning their hospitals. If there is an emergency they come after hours.
