Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda has promised to name a street in his constituency after late music icon Joe Chibangu.
Speaking at the funeral service for late Chibangu, Mr Lubinda who is also Justice Minister said the arts fraternity should meet to discuss and nominate a street in Kabwata which will be renamed Joe Chibangu street in honour of the late musician.
Mr Lubinda said musicians of late Chibangu’s stature needed to be honoured.
The late Joe Chibangu aka Joe “The Ambassador” was put to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lusaka on Tuesday as hundreds of fans turned up to pay tributes for his contribution to the modern sound of Zambian music.
Joe Chibangu,41, died last week, Friday, February 3, 2017, at his home in Thorn park, Lusaka.
He is survived by a wife, Jubilee and 3 children.
This was after Zambia Association of Musicians President Njoya T had called on Government to honour people like Joe Chibangu with a National mourning.
Mr. Tembo gave examples of some other artists who have been honoured, such as late Alick Nkhata.
Condolences to the family even though he helped to corrupt Zambian music
Never heard of him. Must be Aids
Thanks

LT you earlier reported that he leaves behind wife and 2 children.
Today you report 3 children, where has the third child come from?
Sometimes you should be apologising once you have the facts.
..of course Mushota, just like your father!
Putting flowers on his grave, should have Given should have given him those flowers while he was still alive.
No apologies about my English am not a British object.
Great artist. Rest in Peace
You cannot make a correct decision in a state of emotion. This is a first lesson in leadership and management. What is Lubinda going to do with other fallen great musicians. By the way, Kabwata is not a personal property, it is public and can be used in accordance with public policy and not shallow personal agenda. Lubinda can name his wife, his children , his car, his house, his under clothes whatever he wants.
It is not necessary to rename a street after the late musician. We will be setting a ‘bad precedent’ in that every musician who passes away, their families and close associates would want to name something after them. If this is not done, issues of discrimination would arise. Otherwise every street would be named after a prominent politician, musician and other high profile people in society. So let’s prevent these impending debates just by respecting our departed celebrities and giving them a befitting send off. For example everybody knows there was once a prominent Zambian musician in the name of Paul Ngozi.
Spot on. We can just have a Joe Chibangu award.
Alick Nkhata………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..Joe Chibangu?
Double Standards l have liked your point it has made a lot of sense.
Almost every Zambian has contributed in small way to this nation & you can’t honour them all by naming them after some infrastructure be it road, school, airport, etc. Renaming any infrastructure after anybody is not a wise thing, just make new roads or any infrastructure to name them after. This should only be done to excelling Zambians while still alive & performing who are fighting for the genuine course of Zambians regardless of their profession or status but not every one. For example, Pilato has been fighting for improved living standards of Zambians & Late Lucky Dube fought for liberation of South Africans through their music & may deserve the honour. Not those musicians singing empty phrases like “I love you babe”, “You are the one”, “Reverse, Forward”.
Alick Nkhata same level as Chibangu? Uhm how?
That is what PF is well known for. taking advantage of every gathering for political millage. You appear in church its political propaganda, given chance to speak at funerals its the same thing, you provide service to the public you have to company you build a market you want credit. even the very things you where put in power for you have to gain a political millage out of them. i have never seen.
I hear Chimbwili Kashimba has it in his will that when he kicks the bucket he was a boulevard named after him, not a kakunkubiti of a street but something like Great East Lord or Saddam Hussein Boulevard renamed as “Chimbwili Chikankala Chalithole Great Road!”
HIV/AIDS still claiming more lives
So what? Accidents, BP, Diabetes and so on and so on has continued to claim more and more… uli chisushi @Matokwani
To Some Bloggers here: If you don’t have things to contribute on a certain topic, the best is to keep quiet please. It doesn’t pay to demonize the dead in the name of contributing so that LT can give the “best” fimo fimo malabishi!
That is the power of blogging…unfortunately on an open portal like this all sorts of human spirits will participate…you just have to jump over foolish comments and move on…don’t download nonsense in your God given brain!
It is shocking that the minister of justice only qualification is a diploma in agriculture. Lungu is incompetent! How could he appoint Given Lubinda as Minster of justice. Lubinda only has a diploma in agriculture. You read correctely a diplmo in agriculture! This information is proudly displayed and can be accessed on the parliament website! The qualifications of the majority of cabinet is disgraceful and and embrassment. Cry my beloved country Zambia!
Drunken state decides! How about naming a street in kabwata after Paul ngozi. He contributed a lot to music. Do not forget Keith mlevu, nasty D too. So many musicians have gone and were more talented than Joe, let us name every tree, rock, anthills and molehills in zambia after them.
Apparently, for us from the old school, even then the likes of Lazarous Tembo, Ishi Mambo, Laban Kalunga, Teddy Chilambe, (Alick Nkhata though mentioned above), Emmanuel Mulemena, but of course PK Chishala etc should have itefacts named after them. Much as I appreciate him, he was not in a class of the few I have mentioned who did not need computer enhanced instrumentation to sing, but where playing regular and ordinary instruments. Lets respect not only our musicians but our sportsmen and women and all other celebrities current and deceased. It would even help if we can take care of these men and women whilst they are alive than sing accolades when they are in graves, a reality they will not know or appreciate.
Comment:how do Lubinda’s qualification come into Joe chibangu’s funeral.dont think u the only one with a degree,so keep yo qualifications crap to yourself.Kaunda was a grade nine graduate but built Zambia including UNZA which has produced great men.Chiluba came to destroy all kaunda did.Mr mwanawasa the great lawyer brot a stupid investor that has destroyed KCM.RB with a degree in economic history was the worst.Sata had two degrees and out current president z a lawyer.Kaunda has outshined them all.so pliz if u have no encouraging message on Joe’s funeral pliz shut up.
