The Disaster Management Mitigation unit has moved in to create a temporal bridge on the stretch along the Batoka Maamba road that washed away.

Temporal reports have pointed to the recent heavy down as the cause.

The washed away road completely cut off Sinazongwe from the rest of the country and motorists travelling from both Batoka or Sinazeze are being cautioned of the Disaster.

The washed away spot is just after the hill top at Sikanungu village about 5km from both Batoka and Sinazeze.

The meteorology department has indicated that Zambia will experience normal to above normal rainfall with flash floods.

The rainfall pattern being experienced is a reverse of the drought that hit most of Southern Africa last year.

Below is the statement released to the media by RDA

    • The culture of selling contracts has become tantamount to economic sabotage. What laws or decrees will arrest this cancer to mother Zambia? Could it be Marshall law enforced with open field executions to deter such crimes? Something ought to be done to spare mother Africa from souless vultures. This is sad.

    • The thickness of Asphalt speaks volumes. This looks like a 10mm thickness and the base was not properly prepared very unstable sub base.
Also if you have used chingola road, those ridges are as a result of unstable sub base. Not well compacted and Asphalt layed on it.

  1. Pa Zed even your own life and safety is compromised because of corruption!! Corruption is best achievement ever that Zambia has achieved. Cancel all road contractors and bring back Phoenix contractors who did a decent and good Job. Zambians and Chinese contractors are all crooks, the price per Kilometre is more expensive than UK or America!! What a shame for mother Zambia.

Fire Saili and whole of Road Development Agency they are corrupt!!

    • Politicans literally sell contracts to the Chines..you think proper companies would touch such a contract…this is the infrastructure development they sing about with roads that will need replacing before the Eurobonds are due.

    • Fact lies in that you get a loan from some chinese finance houses and being the better negotiators that they are they have a say on how the awarding of contracts should be conducted maybe 75% for Chinese contractors and 25% inclusive of “professional persuasion” (corruption and kickbacks) is what Zambians are allocated! @ Mweo maybe Phoenix contractors were incorruptible and thus lost favor of the Zambian agency responsible for road contractors. I think another reason for Phoenix contractors is that they did not entertain promissory notes thus when payment was due government had to honor it!

  2. Are these the 3 million dollars per Kilometer roads? Are are these cheap Chinese roads. Somebody needs to be held accountable. You study the terrain before you design and build the road and later on charge the tax payers 3 million dollars per kilometer.

Clearly you can see there was basically nothing beneath that thin layer of tar on top.

    • I have always that its day light robbery for a mere road with no pavements, lighting, drainage etc should be costing a $1 million per kilometer.

    • @5 NZELU, YOU CAN NOT COMPARE ZAMBIA’S GEOGRAPHICAL CIRCUMSTANCE TO CALIFORNIA. CALIFORNIA BEING ALONG THE COAST OF PACIFIC OCEAN IS WATER-LOGGED. ZAMBIA BEING LAND-LOCKED IS VERY DRY AND THEREFORE, PROPERLY BUILT ROADS SHOULD NOT BE WASHED AWAY. THAT ROAD CAN BE WASHED AWAY EVEN BY TAP-WATER. PEOPLE MUST BE ANSWERABLE FOR SOME OF THESE THINGS. GO TO BOTSWANA AND SOUTH AFRICA AND SEE HOW THE SAME CHINESE OR OTHER COMPANIES THAT BUILD ROADS IN ZAMBIA, PROPERLY BUILD THEM IN THOSE COUNTRIES WITH 30CM OF BITUMINOUS, STONES AND REINFORCEMENT MESH.

  3. IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE WHY THE RAZOR-BLADE THICKNESS ROAD WAS WASHED AWAY. IT IS A SCANDAL THAT A CONSULTING CIVIL ENGINEERING COMPANY, MINISTRY OF WORKS AND SUPPLY AND ALL RELEVANT GOVERNMENT SECTIONS WERE ALL INVOLVED BUT COULD NOT SEE, RATHER, JUST ALLOWED THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY TO CONSTRUCT A RAZOR-BLADE-THICKNES ROAD. CORRUPTION IN ZAMBIA SEEMS TO BE DEEP-ROOTED. THAT’S WHY SATA CHECKED THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS, HIMSELF. HE KNEW HOW CORRUPT ALL MINISTERS AND THEIR MINISTRIES AND GOVERNMENT SECTIONS AND JUST ABOUT THE ENTIRE CIVIL SERRVICE, WERE. THAT IS NOT A ROAD. THAT IS A CON OF A ROAD. THE PUBLIC WERE CONED. THE CONTRACTORS AND ALL THOSE WHO WERE DIRECTLY INVOLVED MUST BE ARRESTED AND CHARGED- INCLUDING THE MINISTER.

    • RDA ARE STINKING THIEVES. I CAN’T BELIEVE THESE GUYS DESIGNED AND MONITORED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS RUBBISH SO CALLED TARRED ROAD. MULI3BWA. YOU ARE PEOPLE WHO SIMPLY HAVE NO INTEREST FOR THEIR COUNTRY BUT STEALING TO FILL YOUR BOTTOMLESS POCKETS. IT’S A SHAME IN ZAMBIA WITH THESE SHAMELESS STINKING THIEVES.

  4. Really sad that a road with such a thin sub base and a margarine spead of tar is invoiced for 1 million dollars per kilometre…proper Road Civil Engineers would have constructed a bridge over that gully in anticipation for such incidents.
Its clear everyone is creaming off including RDA inspectors who should not approved such poor workmanship.
I wouldnt be surprised of this not the same place that failed last year.

  5. Pf thugs given contracts through corruption end up doing useless works on roads and then you act surprised that roads are subsiding. You are all pillocks..wake up you dull chaps.

  6. Even kalifonia! These rotten eggs what about Cali? When will Californians say in Zambia roads are never washed away? When will they ever say they want to learn the Zambian technical know how on road construction, even kalifornia! Useless Nzeluless rotten egg.

  7. A road designed by someone who never visited the site, and pocketed the fees for site supervision or sent in an incompetent Engineer to supervise the roadworks. Please Govt go after the Design Engineer – they have professional insurance to take care of such shoddy work.

  8. I remember working at RDA sometime back we had a Director Corporate Services who introduced stringent measures against most corrupt acts. The board fired him by not renewing his contract….so who are the final losers now?
