Youths across the country have demanded for an action from government in addressing the many challenges they are facing.

The youths who converged in Lusaka for a two day forum, agreed in a communiqué that the government takes action and not just end at assuring them that it is committed in addressing their concerns.

Some of the issues they raised include the splitting of the Ministry of Youth and Sports saying it has concentrated on promoting sports in the country as opposed to empowering the young people.

The disabled youths also complained that they are left out in all youth empowerment programs citing the Higer Bus Program saying no disabled youth has benefited from such a progressive program.

The youths also agreed that the government considers to review the retirement age as this is proving to be hindrance in young people getting jobs in government.

Meanwhile, some young farmers present at the forum complained for lack of market for their produce saying in as much as government is promoting the full participation of young people in agriculture, it has failed to find market for the young farmers.

  1. It is encouraging to find youths having a forum like this.Make demands on the Goverment of the day & follow it up,else goverments will come & go with the same song “we are looking into your plight”, year after year. The Ministry of youth is a good initiative separate from “ministry of football”,as sports does not exist in Zambia.

    • I agree, split the ministry. There is already a ministry for Women.
      – ministry gender (women)
      – ministry of youth
      – ministry of men (drunks, marijuana smokers issues etc).

  2. WHEN I SAW THE RED I THOUGHT IT WAS UPND. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A SURPRISE BECAUSE UPND HAS VOWED NEVER TO TAKE PART IN ANY EVENTS UNTIL HH IS GIVEN THE PRESIDENCY, A WISHFUL THINKING.

  3. You ignore the youths or fail to act as to their needs, at your peril. Government mere promises and piecemeal activities for the youth have been the order of the day. Its clear that as things stand, there is no sustainable strategy nor policy for tackling youth unemployment or facilitation in meaningful economic activities. But again, this is not an issue that can be addressed outside the wholesome prevailing social & economic situation. You need a bigger plan and a position for the youth in it. Does the current government have this?

  4. Well done young people. We are tired of hearing empty and hollow speeches from politicians about job creation for young people. Does buying tickets for young people to access stadiums enough? We need to see the president live up to his promises during campaign. We need to see jobs not fake promises year in year out. Open Mulungushi Textiles not those games you play during campaign. You faked operationalising Mulungushi after you won you have forgotten shame on you Mr Lungu!!

  5. Youths will forever be forgotten as the vote incompetent people like Lungu. The first thing you need is significant economic changes that favour the locals but also boost the economy at an international stage. Second is corruption needs to fully reduced so equitable wealth is administered. You have too many corrupt individuals in PF. Third, will need foreign investors to only invest in businesses that Zambians can’t. This thing of labense coming to do block building in Zambia must end. Let them all go back and do blocks in their countries.

  6. Ministry of youths will be a good idea because all the resources will go to the youths not sports. Whatever bad things are going on with the youths, government is to blame because nothing else to do apart from drinking alcohol.

  7. The govt the youth is appealing to is made up of drunks and extremely selfish people who cares only about themselves. The only youth they care about are their own spoiled brats (you remember Tasila dishing out shoes, where did she get the money?) Wake up!! Having a separate ministry for youth doesn’t mean service delivery will improve. It’s the organisation that falls short. PF under Lungu is incompetent and will only deliver services to themselves.

  8. SENILE PEOPLE WILL BE RUNNING GOVERNMENT HOLDING ON TO WALKING STICKS WITH HUNCHED BACKS, GRAY HAIRS, DEMENTIA. ETC, WHILE THE YOUTHS WILL BE LOOKING FROM A DISTANCE.
