Zanaco handed tough group stage test

Share

Zanaco have been handed a tough test in the 2017 CAF Champions group stages following the draws made in Cairo on Wednesday.

Mumamba Numba’s side is Group D where they will face two former champions.

Interestingly, Zanaco group stage draw is almost exactly as Zesco’s 2016 league line-up in their league phase campaign.

Again record 8-time holders Al Ahly and 1992 winners Wydad Casablanca are back to face Zambian opposition while 2008 Champions League runners-up Coton Sport of Cameroon are the new face.

ASEC Mimosa was the other team Zesco faced in the 2016 group stages.

Zanaco will visit Al Ahly first on May 13 before hosts Wydad on May 23.

Back-to-back dates against Coton will follow at home on June 3 and away in Cameroon on June 21 on Garoua.

Zanaco will later host Al Ahly on July 1 before wrapping up their Group D campaign away in Casablanca.

The top two finishers will advance to the quarterfinals in September where they will play their colleagues from Group C that comprises of St George of Ethiopia, DR Congo side AS Vita, Esperance from Tunisia and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

  1. This is where you show your desire to be champions! Show your determination Zanaco, show them who owns the money! Zesco did it from the same names, you can as well do better.
