Zesco survived Nkana onslaught in CB derby

Share

Nkana denied Zesco United the 3 points on Sunday when they rallied to hold the visitors 2-2 at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The match came 28 days after Nkana lost 2-0 to Zesco in the 2017 Charity Shield final in Ndola.

However, Nkana remain unbeaten against Zesco in now two successive league meetings since defeating the latter 3-2 away in Ndola last November.

Zesco took the lead in the 4th minute from the penalty spot that was converted by striker Jesse Were.

The goal came in the midst of a wave of a Nkana onslaught with Zesco on the backfoot for most of the game.

Zesco extended their lead against the run of play in the 20th minute when Dave Daka left Nkana defenders in his wake to fire in the ball from a tight angle.

But Ronald Kampamba began Nkana’s comeback with a 32nd minute goal when he chipped the ball over a startled Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda to see the two sides go 2-1 into halftime.

Ronald Chibwe equalized to see the spoils shared in the 80th minute.

Meanwhile, Zesco still reclaimed top-spot despite the draw on 10 points, relegating Lumwana Radiants to the number two spot on goal difference.
