A Medical Doctor of Luampa Mission Hospital in Luampa District in Western has been arrested for allegedly defaming Republican President Edgar Lungu.
Luampa Mission Hospital Director Sanki Chihinga confirmed the arrest of the Congolese Dr. Oliver Kanku.
Mr Chihinga said the arrest was made after Dr Chihinga issued disparaging remarks against President Edger Lungu on his Facebook Page.
“Prior to the arrest the doctor complained of a fake Facebook name that was created in his name with pictures of the President and insulting language purported to be his”. Mr Chihinga said.
He added that the doctor also received death threats on his Watsapp
from unknown mobile phone number, the matter he reported to higher authorities.
The suspect is in custody at Kabwata Police station in Lusaka pending court appearance.
Very pathetic. Can we be told what the insults were because under this dictatorship saying anything against lungu is apparently an insult. Overt 1 in the charge sheet states that ‘Hakainde Hichilema while acting together with Wallace Chakawa conspired to organise a grand reception for Hichilema so that he declare himself President’
But the same overt act in the certificate of committal states that ‘Hakainde Hichilema well acting together with Prestorious Haloba did organise an advance party so that Hichilema is accorded the status of President’.
This has left lawyers wondering whom exactly Hichilema conspired with in overt act one whether it was Wallace Chakawa or Prestorious Haloba. And whether they organised an advance party or a grand reception.
Whereas the charge sheet says Hichilema intended to declare himself President, the certificate of committal says Hichilema was to be accorded the status of President…

His colleagues wanted his job. Can you imagine Dr. Kanku rules the hospital alone over almost one year alone. The Zambian ministry of health could not get another Dr to send there as Luampa is a bush. According to Zambian’s system, each doctor receives a three years contract renewable. His contract ended since February of this month and and he worker two more months without having a contract. When he decided to stop with his duty and went to lusaka in order to start with the process of renewing his contract, then the sad story started. Being the only medical doctor at luampa mission hospital, he performed very well than other doctors in big cities, you can check this with your health minister and he will confirm. I know for sure that his innocent and that God will justify him.
