President Edgar Lungu has congratulated French President-elect Mr. Emmanuel Macron for his resounding victory in Sunday’s Presidential election run-off.

In a congratulatory message to Mr Macron, the President expressed confidence that the overwhelming support the French people have accorded the President-elect reflects their confidence in entrusting him with the responsibility of continuing the country’s successful economic path and stability.

The President has observed that France and Zambia have shared a long history of cooperation premised on mutual values such as good governance, mutual trust, transparency, and the rule of law.

Mr Lungu said he looks forward to having an opportunity to meet and discuss key initiatives with Mr Macron for enhanced bilateral cooperation as well as international issues.

“I would like to express my sincere congratulations to Your Excellency on your election as President of the Republic of France. We wish you every success in your mandate. Allow me once again to convey my best wishes for your continued good health and success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities and challenges of your high office,” the President said.

This is according to the press statement issued to Lusakatimes by the Special Assistant to President Amos Chanda today.

  1. Winners congratulate winners..
Losers have their own place in society…
    Criminals are behind bars…

    • France has spoken and I have respect for wise French pipo.Shame to USA for chosing a thug in tranp who is to late Sata.Shame to UK for BREXIT.Death to Lungu for being a demon worse than satan himself.I curse Lungu with death.

    • Immediately Macron sees its coming from a drunk lungu, he wont even waste time with his translaters into French….
L’ivresse en Zambie. Macron ne perdra même pas de temps à lire des choses d’individus ivres

    • Macron should remind Lungu how not rigging elections gives no room for controversy and humiliating opponents. Nobody will be angry in France because the people have spoken and votes properly counted. Rigging of votes and court process makes election “victory” just a mere Pyrrhic victory, a curse unto Lungu. I hope Lungu learns something. Macron has no reason to squeeze and humiliate Le Pen.

  2. The Munone be civil….. Kamba eats with Kazier Zulu….Whom are you eating with? Never glory over someone’s misfortune… One day misfortune will happen to you and we will empathise with you….

    • Do you know what a misfortune is? When a thief is caught red-handed that’s not a misfortune.

Implementing the laws of Zambia is not a misfortune, arresting you for not having a drivers license is not a misfortune.

A misfortune is burning goods/markets/shops of Zambians who are sweating blood to put food on the table.

    • Munone, a typical PF cadre, revels in and gloats over HH’s humiliation and unjust treatment.

  3. Remember that wasted trip this Lazy Bum Lungu took to France last year…where he stated that he would getting Airbuses …really laughable…at least the French know their man will hit the ground running unlike what we have in State House Lusaka.

  4. Someone stole the votes and he is congratulating a real winner of France. Why can’t you copy from them instead of stealing other people ‘s victory? You will never have inner peace because God knows what you did.

  5. Those who rig elections are ones who are criminals. it is dangerous to allow criminals to rig and rule you illegally. They destroy governance institutions, kill people, divide people, create hate among people, steal, destroy and kill.

  6. Its a question of an Election Thief and Dictator congratulating the true winner in France. If Lungu was Democratically,Constitutionally and legally elected why doesnt he vindicate himself in Court? Until Lungu proves in Court that he truly won the 2016 Election he will remain illegitimate. Forcing and imprisoning the Petitioners will not earn him Legitimacy. SADC belatedly now realise that Lungu is not a Democrat but a Dictator who persecutes his opponents abusing the State Institutions like ZPS, the Courts and ECZ. The Treason Charges slapped on HH are politically motivated. #Release HH unconditionally and unharmed. Let the Petition be heard in Court.

    • i thought this case is before the icc…
just tell us when the icc will sit and overturn ZAMBIA’S ELECTION RESULTS and let them come and install your hh as president so that we move on as a country.
this nonsense of stolen votes without proof as to stop. enough is enough.
always dreaming, “if only we were in state house, if only bembas had voted for us, if only.. if only….
      ATASEE!

  7. PF and president Edgar Lungu won in 2016 clean!!!
Look,if a politician is loved by masses he cant spend more than 10 yrs in opposition like HH.Mr Macron formed his party a year ago and in 2017,he is already a new French president.he has achieved what Edgar Lungu managed to achieve in 2015 and 2016.
I WONDER WHEN UPND SHALL REALISE THE FACT THAT MANY ZAMBIAN VOTERS DO NOT WANT HH.THIS MAN HAS LOST FIVE TIMES SINCE 2006,IS THIS NOT CLEAR SIGN THAT HE IS A POLITICAL REJECT?Mr Macron tried once and won just like ECL did!!ONLY A FAMOUS POLITICIAN CAN ACHIEVE THAT.but since the current upnd only see tribe in everything, they cant believe what am saying. However,Mr Anderson Mazoka was voted for by all tribes in 2001.sadly,HH will never get support from all tribes because many Zambians know him…

    • @Ngimbu, the ax, you are a tragic history forger. If Mazoka was voted for by all Zambians, did he go to State House? When did he become President? As for longevity of a Presidential candidate, read about Wade of Senegal who started standing in the 1970s against Senghor, and then against Diouf, until he made it in the late 1990s. Don’t twist history.

  8. Continue….
Sadly,HH will never get support from all tribes because many Zambians consider him to be a chief tribal1st.
    ANYWAY,CONGRATS TO FRENCH ELECT, MR.MACRON!!

  9. On behalf of the membership of the Upnd we wish to congratulate Emmanuel Macron on his election to the office of president in France. He more than most should know the daunting challenges facing Europe with issues of immigration, the brexit, terrorism to mention a few. For Madam Le Pen we wish to recognize your emphatic campaign but above all else your grace in accepting the outcome and wishes of the French people c’est admirable! Once again we thank you for your maturity….2021 Upnd under new leadership Zambia forward
