“93% of sample size choose to remain in the ICC”

Ministry of Justice has announced that the opinion sampling undertaken by the Government revealed that the majority wished Zambia to remain in the International Criminal Court(ICC).

Following a resolution by the African Union(AU) Summit to urge member states to pull out of the international court, President Edgar Lungu announced that Cabinet would seek the views of Zambians before the decision was made.

Ministry of Justice states that most stakeholders and Zambian people have indicated that the country should continue to a member of the International Crime Court ICC.

The results released by the Ministry of Justice shows that about 93.3% of those consulted affirmed that Zambia should continue to be part of the ICC.

Zambian government decided to consult people whether Zambia should leave the ICC or not after the African Union AU asked all African Countries who are members of ICC to withdrew their membership.

  1. Did you have to spend money to know that? Zambians are wary of PF breaking the law to punish enemies. Even the Minister of Religion and National Guidance says HH is in chux because he doesn’t recognise ECL! The day of reckoning has to come for tyrants who have wronged the people. ICC, here they come!

    • This shows that the exercise and money pent on consultation was worth it.

I knew the Zambian Government were doing the right thing

I completed my PhD in April 2017 so my comments should have more credence than others.

      Thanks

    • A big mistake.

we might as well hand over independence openly/legally to our colonial master since we are saying we cant run our own affairs as Africans.

Backward thinking, anyways its the people and am sure its mostly UPND cadres vioce.

    • Excellent! HH first Zambian defendant at the ICC since he is hell bent on bringing “volcano” to Zambia!

    • Manipulation games by the PF have started failing just eight months after allegedly being voted into office. We are in for great entertainment between now and 2021 as we see criminals start panicking.

    • ECL, PF are the worst terrorists after ISIS and must be treated so by all well meaning Zambians. This money didnt have to go that way We have 50 deaths per day at UTH. Causes=lack of medicine

    • In simplicity of this verdict is that 93% of Zambians want the ICC to probe PF bandits & visionless Lungu.
This 93% has shocked blind Dagama & now PF is feeling the heat of ICC.
After eating the rotten carcasses, the PF bandits including those @ Nkwanzi house are now eating bones. When choked up by skeletons of self inflictions on his Jameson throat, the guy without vision is crying out loud that something invincible is on its way to get him.
Visionless Jameson with illusions of incompetence is wailing & antagonised saying that “something is after me,…..they are coming to get me”~Lungu.
The end of violent PF bandits is finally here. ICC swaah!

    • ARRESTING LAW BREAKERS LIKE HUNGRY HYENA AND COMPANY DOES NOT AMOUNT TO TYRANNY. YOU FULS SHOULD BE ASKING YOUR FULLISH SELVES WHY KABIMBA OR NAWAKWI OR CHIPIMO ARE NEVER ARRESTED. ITS SIMPLE. THEY DON’T BREAK THE LAW AND DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT A MAGISTRATE COURT ROOM LOOKS LIKE. ASK YOUR FULLISH SELVES ONCE MORE WHY THE ABOVE NAMED THREE OPPOSITION LEADERS DON’T COME TO SIMUSAMBA’S COURT TO SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH HUNGRY HYENA WHENEVER HE IS APPEARING IN COURT. SIMPLE,, THEY DON’T ASSOCIATE THEMSELVES WITH CRIMINALS WHO WANT TO DECLARE THEMSELVES PRESIDENT WHEN THE PEOPLE HAVE REJECTED THEM SIX TIMES KWAMAANA.

    • Asking the people for a view regarding important national issues is highest form of democracy. It’s people that win not PF or UPND, etc. In fact greatest tragedy this century in Zambia is UPND decampaigning BoR which would’ve assured greater rights to Zambians regardless of political affiliations. There was no reason for objecting apart from malice. The souls & spirits of many Zambians who would have benefited from the new BoR will forever haunt UPND on this issue of national importance. God is with us still & He will make a way. God Bless Zambia!

    • Ba LT, what happened to this article that you posted earlier? Why did you remove it?

“Paramount Chief Chitimukulu praises PF Government’s drive to develop Northern Province
      May 23, 2017”

    • WHY IS THE USA NOT A MEMBER OF THE ICC?
WHO ARE THE MAIN ACCUSED IN THE ICC?
IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWERS YOU WILL REALISE THAT THE ICC IS A VESTIGE OF NEO-COLONIALISM.
THAT IS WHY ZAMBIA SHOULS QUIT.
IT WAS A MISTAKE TO HOLD THE COSTLY EXERCISE.
THE GOVERNMENT WAS ELECTED TO LEAD

    • It shows that Zambians have rejected u only that u have used underhand methods to retain power. With the bribes & without political opposition to the opinion survey u still lose the sampling!

Under PF Zambians have economically & politically retrogressed while “tribalistically” & selectively some tribes have ‘progressed’ as they occupy key Govt jobs.

The opinion sampling simply tells u, Bo Lubinda that Zambians are saying we don’t want :
“a govt of kabovas, by kabovas and for kabovas”

    • dont include yourselves in organisations which are white ran. What ICC, this is a mistake, in as much as i dont trust bena chagwa and other politicians, i dont need some european based organisation to mediate problems between me and my brother or sister. We should get out now!!!!!

    • We told you, this whole exercise was just diverting the focus from key issues.

There was no need to spend that money, as we already said, there was no reason to pull out unless you wanted to cover up any dictatorial tendencies.

So this is expected good news, but sad for the money wasted could have been put to good use e.g in UTH.

    • @1.13 neutral & 1.15 kanene: WHAT A BUNCH OF DONKEYS YOU ARE!!!! How can a whole government listen to you donkeys blogging and saying we don’t want to pull out??? You think the rest of the world would take our government seriously. This exercise is hard evidence from Zambians from a sample of tribe, region, party or whatever you want to use to confirm that majority don’t want to leave ICC. ECL was wise to consult, how can you say rejected when he refused to give a stand on the issue and chose to consult the owners of the country, US THE ZAMBIANS??? You donkeys are what has prompted the govt. to want to start to regulate social media-YOU ARE FULL OF SH*T!!!!!!!!!!

    • @Zambian Citizen

Have I specifically insulted anybody for you to unleash direct insults on me in response to my blog?

You must be a paid ‘Nancy Boy’ for one of the PF bigwigs for you to be personally so furious.

Zambian Citizen the ‘Nancy Boy’, if only you understand what I mean!

    • Nangu ni opposing this is too crazy. The government gives us the correct out come on the consultative approach that was used but still you come up with all sorts of negative analysis. This is exactly what is happening with the election results of 2916. The Electrol Commission of Zambia, The Church, SADC and the rest of the world tells us that the elections were free and fair. Only a certain group still refutes these facts. What do you want? This is how a government should treat its citizens by giving them the correct outcome of a consultative process they conduct. In other countries these results would have been doctored. Let’s give credit where it is due.

    • Bwana minister this simply means people prefer to have you in check in the event you continue with oppressing people. PF you thought people like you to an extent of not seeing through your scheme of preparing the ground for full dictatorship. Some day this country must make you pay for K2m you worsted while others are failing to pay for UNZA fees. Shame on you.

  2. Honestly speaking, did you guys expect the citizens to pull out of ICC with all these atrocities that you are committing against your own people? Only corrupt and brutal regimes hate the ICC. Especially dictators.

    • Look at how stupid the masquerade is looking in the picture, let the *****s pay back the money they spent on this useless exercise, as well as the money other masquerades spent in office when their Chief masquerade claimed that they did not need to vacate offices. Zambians must demand what rightly belong to them.

    • There’s only one person in Zambia who should be worried about the ICC – Lungu. Individual Zambians do not have to worry about sharing a death cell with Charles Taylor and Gbagbo. The threat of going to the ICC may just keep murderous Lungu in check.

  3. So it was the AU which triggered this? How then did the UPND convince Bishop Mpundu that it was Lungu who wanted to pull out of this ICC?

    • Because upnd is a party of donkeys!!! That is why Zambians have REJECTED THEM 5 TIMES!!!! They will do anything even lie and slander to get to state house. The hair on my back moves just imagining hh having all that power, there would be chaos in the country!!!!!!!!

  4. Wrong move, we needed to be out of ICC.
I see no value in still claiming to have Independence yet you want colonial masters to run your budget and judiciary – whats there to show that you are in control of your own future

    • But you still want your colonial masters to supplement your budget….you can not even build your own clinics or repair your sewer pipes, I guess that’s a different issue.

    • I am not agreeing with you …you state that its a wrong move and I say to you first support, care and feed yourselves before you can even point to ICC…its should not even have been tabled to start with. Its the Lazy Sausage Edgar who started it and when the issue became a hot potato he cowered.

  5. Remaining in the ICC is what we wanted and that has nothing to do with HH.hence, upnd stop deceiving yourselves because this is not your victory but its for the majority Zambians.upnd alone could have not won it because it has no numbers in Zambia.moreover,PF Govnt did well to consult us Zambians because they say “nobody has a monopoly of wisdom”.maybe if the Executive decided on their own,Zambia could have pulled out of the ICC.but since ECL is a wise president,he took a splendid move of consulting Zambians on this issue unlike the ” I know it all” found in upnd!!
WELL DONE PF FOR SHAMING THE OPPOSITION PARTIES WHO THOUGHT THAT YOU WILL HIDE THE TRUTH FROM ZAMBIANS ON THE ICC ISSUE!!IN PF WE TRUST!!BRAVO ECL!!

  6. This empty tin has no shame whatsoever …he is trying to pin this on the AU was it not the Lazy Bum Edgar who stated on an airport tarmac that they were thinking of pulling out from ICC. We wasted a lot of money for this exercise when all along the answer was no.

  7. It won’t hurt to stay in the ICC. A victory for the populace but a sheer waste of money and time.

You don’t need to touch the fire to know that fire burns.

Our leaders lack foresight and are too arrogant. This is a bad combination.

For those referring to “colonial masters” in their aguments. This is a stale augment that will never result in true independent of the African psyche. Africa needs to own up to the state of affairs it finds itself in and work at genuine reformation. Blaming history and running away from the bitter truth that african governance structures don’t work won’t help our lot.

    • I really don’t understand how you expected the government to conduct this exercise without spending money. Enlighten us with your theory please , sir. I am really interested!!

    • @Dumb Zambian Citizen – the govt could have saved the money by doing absolutely nothing about it. Just because fellow dictators at the AU want to leave the ICC does not compel Lungu to do the same or even test public opinion.

    • @buck teeth: I expected a reasonable answer from Dr. Chaos Theory. From a donkey like you, i know what to expect…heee haww, heee haww…the usual rubbish…your brain is not big enough to process anything hh doesn’t tell you…

  8. It was one of the many good approaches to issues to have consulted the masses because had the people in power now decided on behalf of the nation the critics would have rejoiced having been given a subject matter to dwell on for some time. There is really nothing to fear to remain in ICC when you have no ill motives incubated in your mind which you intend to hatch in the future. Sorry to say that some radio stations want to find fault with issues when they are supposed to seem to be neutral and let the masses debate. This man and woman leave much to be considered as good announcers on radio because they want to lead the caller instead of presenting the issue as raw as is.

  9. Thank God that no matter how much PF tries to oppress people, they will fail. Mrs Esther Lungu, with due respect please tell your husband that the more he oppresses people using all manner of people, God who is above him is seeing and there is a time to reap.

  10. Zambians have done well to ask to remain in ICC. When a violent and vicious dictator suddenly wants out of ICC you know he has a devious agenda.

  11. pf full of criminals.I new that it was not going to work out just like the referendum…bakawalala ba pf!

    • @9, 10 & 11: So anything hh and his upnd say you believe???…yaba…I gave you people credit that you actually think, but it’s true you are DONKEYS…this is sad…..

  12. Very nice to hear that the sample consultation has shown that we want to stay in the ICC. Good initiative for the govt to have gauged the need of the people.

  13. @ Munone, indeed we have failed to run our affairs. You just have to look at our national budgets to see that more than half that money is donor money. Again, notice that it is the Muzungu, who has come to the aid of drought-stricken citizens in the Horn of Africa, while the AU has remained deathly silent.

So while we stand ready to receive donor fund and food, we reserve no right to cry foul when the givers reproach us for poor governance.

So Bro, your true dignity and independence will only come once you rid yourself of Muzungu help.

For now, get used to living under the the saying “HE WHO CALLS THE PIPER, CALLS THE TUNE.” And always remember that there is no dignity in poverty. Zikomo.

  14. This goes on to show that HH lost the election but because he sold his sole to the devil (Anglo American) he is looking for excuses by coming up with fictitious claim of his results having been stolen. Even these results could have been manipulated including the referendum but the results have been clear from August, 11, 2016.

    • We never got the opportunity to hear the evidence against Lungu becoming president. So that allegation is very false.

  15. This was an exercise in futility, an unnecessary waste of money, one may think it was done to allow PF cronies siphon money from Govt coffers

  16. ANOTHER VICTORY FOR ZAMBIA… whoever had ill intentions to withdraw will be be the first candidate at ICC

  17. did any of you who have commented vote of air your opinion in any poll what so ever? am curious to know who are these 93%

  18. AU asked member countries to state their position on the matter. GRZ decided to consult citizens instead of taking a unilateral decision. It is good GRZ has gone with the majority position. If Lungu wanted to withdrwa Zambia from ICC, he could have easily rode roughshod over Zambians but decided not to. He deserves credit.

  19. madam mushota answer this for us….
Dr. Mushota please tell us the name of the University where you did your Phd , also tell us about your thesis/desertation during your phd study and lastly please anyone who does a Phd must publish a paper in international journals, so kindly give us the website link we find what you have did during your research work?
    am waiting…….

  20. This is a vote of no confidence by the citizens in the rule of Lungu and PF.

Uncertainty, foreboding and fear characterise living conditions under PF.

Who would blame citizens for feeling like this with the break down of democratic rights and public attacks by Kaizer Zulu on members of the public and police officers.

  21. Well done consulted people. At least they are not singing praise songs to ECL as most PF aligned men do to keep their Jobs. Balamuzembaika sana President wesu.

  22. This is a great decision because we are not capable of holding our selves accountable especially when the people who are supposed to do so are the very same people committing heinous crimes.

A clear example of a violation of human rights which was never dealt with was the shooting of a young lady at a UPND rally. This woman was photographed running away, with her back turned from the police. Regardless of who you support if you have a heart you should know that this is wrong. You cannot slaughter people because they oppose your views. The young lady posed no threat, killing her is against the law. However because the police committed the crime no one is held accountable.

  23. Lungu has made his bed in the ICC Cells In the Hague and will soon go and lie in it. Lungu and his goons have committed numerous crimes against humanity and will be indicted to ICC. The Barbaric Raid on HH’s Home is a crime of War. EU will soon conduct their investigation on the alleged torture of HH and recommend that Lungu and his fellow Criminals be indicted to ICC. Lorrent Ghagbo of Ivory Coast is looking forward to welcoming Lungu and his goons in the Hague very soon.

  24. Dr. Mushota , kindly give us the link to the paper you have published in international journals and what new knowledge have you discovered, also give more details on your thesis/desertation, not just telling us you where at Glasgow University, we need proof. Even I can say I was at UNZA doing a Phd whats important here is proof dont just sing…..$#@$^^bla bla bla

  25. HH WANTED TO USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE. THE DOOR IS WIDE OPEN NOW. YOUR CASE IS NOT TENABLE AT THE ICC. IT WILL BE THRIWN OUT. ITS NIW 8 MONTHS AND THE CASE HAS NOT RESCHED ICC.

  26. What a wastage of time and resources… Lungu and his minions just back-pedaled on this one due to overwhelming opposition.

  27. No wonder economic and social problems do not finish in Zambia with this kind of wastin money. Or it was giving money to friends on the commission and suppliers?

  28. The fact of the matter is that these PF guys had no choice but to go with public opinion. They know they will not be in power forever. Soon or later someone they have rubbed the wrong way either in PF or in opposition will become President and deal with them in revenge. The decision they have taken is a self-preservation decision. However, if they continue with this type of decisions even some of us might start supporting PF actively. We don’t hate PF, we hate its principles and moral sense. For example, what happened to the Parliamentary nullification of Mwanakatwe and Nkandu Luo??? What happened to the Court’s ruling that Ministers must pay back the money they ate while being in office illegally during the campaign period? Crap. Come to think of it, this enquiry was unnecessary.

  29. Wasteful indeed!
Imagine how many school leavers would have benefited from a K2million sponsorship. Most of us who enjoyed free education wouldn’t have become what we are if we grew under PF where it is a crime to come from a poor family. Shame! Magufuli is busy mopping money from wasteful ventures and ploughing it into Education. Zambia will soon be a country full of illiterates. Illiteracy is bad for democracy and development. An educated nation is an informed nation! Chagwa et al should prepare to face ICC!

  30. Mushota, showing off your well written research paper must be something u should exicited to do. ohooo but you dont have a PhD. I bet you don’t even know the difference between a dissertation and a thesis? Well done Zambia

  31. This news will generate mass confusion in the UPND rank and file. Some of them supported the idea to stay in ICC in the hope of subjecting ECL to the ICC; whereas other UPND members did not support Zambia’s membership to the ICC because they were frightened at the prospects of HH being delivered to the ICC for his inhuman actions in Namwala. Which ever way the pendulum swings, the UPND camp is confused and dazed of the outcome for Zambia to sustain its membership to the ICC.

  32. Those suspecting ECL of wanting to leave the ICC must have a very serious case of amnesia. Have you forgotten Mumbi Phiri’s emotional reaction when some of you UPND types alleged that ECL wanted Zambia to leave the ICC? In her reaction, Mumbi Phiri revealed that in the PF Central Committee meeting, ECL had voiced his strong opposition to Zambia leaving the ICC! Those of you who care to research may even be able to dig out this story from the LT archives.

  33. Getting out of the ICC without a debate would have led to an outcry. The PF govt. hence decided to ‘consult’ with an undertone that Zambians should vote to leave. But they then get this ‘shock’ result. As far as I am concerned, this vote was not just about the ICC. Some people who cast their opinion did not even know the workings of this court. The vote was against any governors who appear as if they want to have the leeway to do as they please and later on get away with it because they have done away with institutions or processes that would have made them to account.

  34. No brains in PF, this was a waste of time and money. Just the thought of leaving ICC will scare anyone including a hardcore PF cadre just as confirmed by the results. Lungu and his vicious team will be given all the powers to abuse anyone without any repercussions, you never know what can become of lungu. He might become the next Hitler with his insecurities busy abusing our prison system to force people to recognize him.

    • South Africa pulled out of ICC, so ECL was smart to ask Zambians first. This was a call from African presidents through AU summit. Be reasonable with what you claim; avoid preconceived emotions in life and death decision-making

  35. Dictatorship is cheaper because one man decides for all, but democracy is expensive because you have to spend to hear the decisions from all. Lungu had the chance to make a decision from the African Uninion on behalf of the Zambians (AU is promoting Pan-Africanism to question ICC mandate). However, ECL had to spend the K2 million for the people’s opinion. If he had used this as a scapegoat to avoid ICC, he could have hidden the 93.3% against withdrawing from ICC.

  36. i would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of zambia for showing their dislike to lawlessness which pf is bringing to this beautiful country please continue to raise above oppression from this illigitimate government.
