Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has called for urgent measures to reverse the high HIV prevalence rate in the region.

Mr. Mubukwanu says there is need for quick action because the HIV prevalence rate in Western Province is worrying.

He notes that the 16 percent HIV prevalence rate is a huge burden considering the population size which is slightly under 1 million.

Mr. Mubukwanu said this during the opening of the province’s first ever Indaba on HIV and AIDS aimed at finding lasting solutions to halt and reverse burden in the province.

The minister cautioned that faith based organisation that preaches the message of substituting ARVs for prayers will be deregistered.

And National AIDS Council-NAC- Director Policy and Planning John Mwale said international resource base for HIV and AIDS programs has dwindled in the last five years.

He said there is need to build local resource base through initiatives such as constituency development funds.

Mr. Mwale called for stronger community health systems in order to enhance service delivery.

The three day HIV indaba has attracted more than 3 hundred delegates.

    • Iwe! @nubia PF tribalist, this a PF problem, before PF it was Zero percent prevalence,,, can’t you see this mubukwanu trator is on ARVs himself

      Usually HIV/AIDS goes with poverty

    • I miss my Lozi gf, she was good in everything. I never had such a laughing lady. So hot. But her uncle was too demanding of me going to live kwaHaye.

    • Police and army sent to western province to fight a war which was not defined is responsible for this outbreak as in the absence of a clear enemy the mainly carefully selected tribal security personnel and mainly HIV positive resorted to both forced sex and otherwise. Its on record that many school girls fell pregnant during their time.We need a commission of equiry.

  1. Internationa resource base for HIV and AIDS programs has dwindled over the last 5 years. Wants constituency development funds.
1.. why has international resource base dwindled……ie. foriegn aid.
2.who is going to provide constituency development funds now that HE. ECL has told the international donors that we are a sovereign nation and we dont need their money.
When there are no ARVS and deaths increase who will be responsible.

    • Edgar Lungu is childish. He only thinks of himself, he knows he will still access free ARVS for himself and let the other afflicted people look after themselves. There is too much poverty in Western province. The youths have nothing to do but they have to eat. The girls sleep with older men for as little as K5.00 or just food, and then the id1ot in state house is preaching that things are just ok. Which country does he live in uyu kabolala chatile chakwe.

    • Quit mourning and whining and do something for yourself. E.G. Go and grow cashew nuts and you will make a lot of money.

  2. It will be worse very soon with this poverty and the investors who will soon run away because of the recklessness of the pf government…lol

  6. Social media websites are no longer performing an envisaged function of creating a positive communication link among friends, family and professionals. It is a veritable battleground where insults fly from the human quiver damaging lives, destroying self esteem and a person’s sense of self worth.
Especially Zambia’s social media. God have mercy on so called christian nation. No wonder Genesis 6:5.
