Ruling PF Legal Counsel Tutwa Ngulube says the debate on President Edgar Lungu candidature for the 2021 elections is unnecessary.
In a statement, Mr Ngulube who is also Kabwe Central M.P said it is too early to start having such a debate.
“Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues in the party and media institutions. I wish to take a professional stance over this matter. I have heard several discussions over who the PF Presidential candidate is for 2021 with Hon. Kambwili and Hon Kampyongo taking very strong positions over the matter,” he said.
“As a senior member of the party I wish to advise that both Honourable members are my colleagues in Parliament and know the channels to be employed over this matter.”
Mr Ngulube said if senior members openly differ in the media, they risk confusing the grassroot and will scare away new members.
“This debate for now is unnecessary and has the potential of detracting His Excellency the president from delivering the much needed development in kabwe central where all the roads need attention,” he said.
“Lastly I urge all the parties to exercise maximum restraint in responding to queries over this matter and allow the president to enjoy his tenure without pressure from anywhere,” he added.
He said, “As the lawyer who was in charge of the same dispute in November 2014 and who was very instrumental in restoring the sanctity of the PF constitution I find that its too early for people to differ over this matter.”
Mr Ngulube said the party must impose sanctions on people openly debating this matter and must refer to the central committee anyone who does not heed President Lungu’s previous directives that all the party must concentrate on delivering development and recruiting new members as opposed to bickering.
“Those early endorsements are unnecessary right now as we don’t have elections this year. We still have to wait for a time when party campaigns will be opened.”

How do you begin to discuss Edgar Lungu’s 2021 candidacy now and take a definite position when the candidate has another four years in which he still has to prove himself that he is worthy of the ultimate prize (the PF Presidency)? The point is, it is still 2017, not 2018, neither is it 2019, nor yet 2020, but 2017; all of a sudden the talk has shifted to 2021 – who will be PF’s presidential candidate then? How much of sense does that make – to look that far ahead and attempt to cross bridges not yet under construction, for which there is not even an architectural design?

I am actually seeing even assassinations because the UPND will not be there to be blamed as always is the case. This is obviously ‘Dr’Kambwili vs ‘President’ E C Lungu. Even with the warning that Tutwa has given won’t shut PF members from washing their linen in public, that I can assure you. Wait until the so-called Jerabos show their inclination on either CK or ECL, which I think they will go for CK.

Truthfully speaking, PF can only bounce back in 2021 if ECL is the presidential candidate. Try putting a bemba candidate for the PF in 2021 and see how easterners will abandon PF en masse. Lest we conveniently forget our recent history; easterners only joined PF (and voted for PF) in 2015 when ECL became the PF candidate and the KING MAKER RB backed him. In 2011, Eastern province was with MMD while Western province was with PF. But after Sata won, of course typical of a tribalist, he sought to instal bemba hegemony/supremacy in Zambia (to the extend that he created 35 new districts and filled them up with ONLY bemba civil servants and only bembas could be given positions in Diplomatic service – AMONG MANY OF THE SATA-SINS). Since the demise of its founder, the late president Michael Sata, PF has been embroiled in a power struggle. It has been on-going. It is still on-going. It’s what is uppermost on their minds, not the delivery of any service to the public.
