Sports Wedson drops 7 ahead of Mozambique game

Wedson Nyirenda has dropped 7 players for Saturday’s 2019 AFCON qualifier against Mozambique.

And opponents Mozambique arrived on Wednesday afternoon in Ndola for this weekends clash at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Three of the seven are high profile home-based regulars.

Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Cletus Chama including the Zesco United duo of defensive midfielder Misheck Chaila and striker Jackson Mwanza have been axed.

The rest are Mwila Phiri of Green Eagles,Napsa Stars’ Collins Sikombe,Stanley Nshimbi of Red Arrows and Nkwazi striker justin Shonga.

Nyirenda now has 25 players for the final phase of training ahead of the Mozambique clash.

Meanwhile,Mozambique arrived at midday on Wednesday in Ndola From Maputo via Johannesburg.

The team is coached by ex-Portugal And Liverpool defender Abel Xavier as he attempts to be the first Mozambique coach to beat Zambia.

“We expect an exciting game.we don’t fear Zambia but we respect them,” he said.

“There is no home or away games for us now.”

Goalkeeper: Jacob Banda (Zesco United), Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco), Mweene (Mamelodi Sundowns,South Africa)

Defenders: Ziyo Tembo, Taonga Bwembya, George Chilufya (all Zanaco), Fackson Kapumbu,Simon Silwimba( both Zesco),Isaac Shamujompa (Nchanga Rangers), Billy Mutale(Power), Stopilla Sunzu (Lille,France)

Midfielders:Augustine Mulenga (Zanaco), John Ching’andu, Kondwani Mtonga (both Zesco),Mwansa Nsofwa (Lusaka Dynamos), Fwayo Tembo(Power Dynamos), Rainford Kalaba(TP Mazembe,DR Congo), Salulani Phiri (Polokwane City, South Africa), Chisamba Lungu (FC Ural,Russia),Roderick Kabwe (Ajax Cape Town, South Africa)

Strikers:Dave Daka (Zesco), Brian Mwila (Green Buffaloes), Ronald Kampamba(Nkana), Collins Mbesuma(Highlands Park, South Africa), Given Singuluma(TP Mazembe,DR Congo)

    • They are finished, Mayuka is fat and that is indiscipline for a player to not watch what he eats. That’s the reason why Mayuka is useless now.

  1. Striking force is my doubt except for Dave Daka. Mbesuma has been absent from his club for almost the entire second half of the season. I don’t know how he found himself in the squad. He has to score to remove our doubts

  2. The coach wud have featured in the fresh legs of a few under 20 who are sharp in front because the major problem with the senior team is the poor scoring system

  3. It would be better for the coach to fuse in Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala as strikers and Enoch Mwepu as attacking midfielder. Otherwise, the combination of Taonga Bwembya and Ziyo Tembo should be the fulcrum of a new defence for the senior team.

    • Iwe Taonga Bwembya is not National Team Material. We do not want these experiments the coach has started.

    • Give the under 20 players time to rest, they are just returning from a very big tasking competition. psychologically and physically they need a rest.

    • Let them be supper subs for them to gain experience. This is the problem with Zambia. When do you want them to feature? If anything, footballers are more stronger physically at this stage. All they need is experience and they will acquire that by fusing them with seniors now and not later.

    • I’m sure you guys have seen now that the only solution for our S/National Team is to fuse in the U20. Only maintain Hon Mweene, the pillar Zunzu, & then introduce U20.Chisamba Lungu, Kalaba, Fwayo Tembo & Mbesuma should also be kept as substitutes. I strongly believe Mbesuma can do better with those killer passes from the U20 bullets. Also, Chambeshi should take up the S/National Team. Minus all that, we will just be loosing.

  4. Looks like a solid team. Creativity in the mid field is what will make it count. Defensively it looks good.

  5. It’s high time the young lads start featuring in this senior squad so that they get mature. To tell you the truth people, our Nation Team is not ready for the contest.

  6. Wat a big sham to de big team pa home zoona. Please wedson we need same replacement to improve our team more especially de strikers at least try fashon & on de midfielder try mwepu to change de team otherwise we stll have a chance to win.
