Under-fire Zambia visit Bafana

Share

Under-fire Zambia seek some respite away from home on Tuesday when they visit Bafana Bafana in a friendly in South Africa.

The 2012 African champions visit the 1996 winners at Moruleng Stadium outside Rustenburg in a 19h00 kickoff.

“I think we will put Saturday’s game behind us, we will need to get into South Africa with more confidence,” Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda said.

None of the foreign-based players Nyirenda lined-up in Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Mozambique in a 2019 AFCON Group Qualifier in Ndola have been selected.

Also missing are Zanaco and Zesco United players as they have Wednesday league obligations before heading out to fulfil their CAF club cup assignments this weekend in Cameroon and Angola respectively.

But Power Dynamos striker Fwayo Tembo is the only player who started against Mozambique in the travelling party to South Africa.

Nyirenda is using the match solely to prepare his home-based players for Zambia’s July dates in the 2017 Cosafa Cup Tournament to be held in South Africa when they face Botswana in the quarterfinals on July 1.

Zambia will thereafter face Swaziland away on July 15 in a 2018 CHAN first round, first leg qualifier.

  1. Please please please please please don’t go there! You will embarrass us. Bafana are hot at present. With a new coach. From EUROPE not Ku lukungu Ku Kabwe

  2. Mmmm but this Wedson is really rubbish. What a use.less team. Its better they don’t even go there otherwise Zambia will be embarrassed for sure. This coach awe sure. He has no idea how to select players. Just trial and error.

  3. Wat are they doing ?wat is this coach up to pls come back if u want a friendly much play under 20 .stop embarrassing us with that team full of names we don’t know instead of playing football they will be busy watching bafana bafana

  4. Foolish man…..iwe chikamanga naiwe innachokela kutiii? How do you get some one coaching a Mozambiquen club to come and coach a former african champion? Rubbish…… how many games has he won so far??? He has no win in his bag after playing more than 4 games….he is not fit for that post….let him coach kafue celtic not the national team….his decision are very pathetic…..no vision for Zambia nation football team

  5. Yes, play against the U20 and then we can judge. Don’t hide in the bushes. European league is in recess so the U20 are available to ‘tune-up’ and teach these fossils a lesson.

    Solola Bye!

  6. We challenge the Northern Rhodesia to come out of hiding and play the U20s. Why are FAZ ignoring these nationwide cry?

  7. eish we are now reaping the results of anabwela blocking FAZ from getting a proper coach. Wada is a good coach but does not have the tactical capacity and coaching exposure of how the game is played these days. Yes Gordon was not going to take us anywere but he certainly was going to get better results.

  8. Friendlies are not about winning or losing; but about identifying weaknesses in your team/strategy. I’m all about using local coaches, but unfortunately the current coach doesn’t appear to have the level of sophistication (tactically) required to manage a national team. Either FAZ addresses the coaching situation, or the public will demand a new administration. Time is not on the team’s side.

  9. Shame on you guys , Zambia has beaten South Africa 2-1. the same team that defeated Nigeria two days ago
