Rohr: Zambia will be tougher than Cameroon

Share

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr says their big 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifying date against Zambia will be bigger than their previous pool clash against Cameroon.

The Super Eagles beat the former Group B runners-up 4-0 in Uyo and drew 1-1 away last month to see Cameroon drop to 3rd and ended their interest in the race in the 2018 qualifiers.

Nigeria now face a rejuvenated and resurgent Zambia who beat Algeria 3-1 at home and 1-0 away in September to sneak into second place and within three points of them.

Nigeria have 10 points, Zambia have 7 points with two rounds of matches left to play.

“We are looking to collecting a decisive result in our group this weekend. If we win this game on Saturday then we qualify,” Rohr told Nigerian media after Tuesday training at Saturday’s match venue in Uyo.

“But we know that Zambia has a good team. They are the U20 AFCON champions and they have a different team to the one we faced in Ndola,” Rohr said.

Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1 last October 9 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in what is Chipolopolo’s only Group B loss before holding Cameroon to a 1-1 draw in Limbe on match-day-two away last November.

Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda is carrying three Under-20 players from the 2017 U20 AFCON winning team.

One of those Under-20 stars is Patson Daka who scored the lone goal away in Algeria.

“So we will not underrate this Zambian team, we have a lot of respect for this team. They beat Algeria twice and I think it will be more difficult than Cameroon.”

Zambia must win away in Uyo to stay in the hunt.

Anything less will hand Nigeria their ticket to Russia.

  1. MY DOTA NCHIMUNYA PREDICTS ZAMBIA 4 – nigeria 1… She always right with her predictions.

However, the coach should have given other players an equal chance to prove themselves. As a Pastor he should have buried the differences he has with Kalaba and Fwayo.

For instance, one on one Mbesuma(despite his tired legs) is better player than Ngonga and Chingandu combined together. As matter of fact he is the one who scored for us in Cameroon. Kalaba is still a better midfielder than most midfielders we have carried to Nigeria. Fwayo is another great soldier he has left back home.
A best general does not leave his top soldiers at the rear when going for war… Posterity will judge Wada harshly.

I WISH HIM AND THE CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS ALL THE BEST IN UYO

  2. Hibalwa’s daughter will prevail. Ba Rohr beware indeed. Here comes Chipolopolo the bullet that penetrates eagles super or not!

  3. Zambians are just too arrogant and they dont know their class. Germany, Brazil and Argentina cannot come to Nigeria and beat Nigeria in Nigeria in this kind of match. Nigeria knows what is at stake. You people are just saying the same things. If Zambia gets draw in Nigeria.. I’m owing you people something incredible. Call M.D here to claim your prize.+2348165598725. Next time Zambians should pray not to be in the same class with Nigeria. The Super Eagles that South Africa beat is different from the one that beat Cameroon. No Mikel, no Moses, no Ikem, no Ighalo, no Balogun etc. Zambia should pray next time not to be in the same group with Nigeria so that they can realize their dreams in playing at World cup.

    • I watched both legs of the Zambia versus Algeria game and the major thing I noticed is that the new Algerian coach is not good. He has made the team completely rudderless and without rhythm. In fact, Cameroun will beat them this Saturday and even a weakened Nigerian team will beat them at home in November (after securing the Russia 2018 ticket this Saturday). Ironically, this poor Algerian team (the one Nigeria beat 3-1 was stronger and more motivated) has given the Zambians false hopes. I can only LOL.

  4. Now that its confirmed Brian Mwila is injured and won’t feature for Zambia i have doubts over Chipolopolo chances of beating Nigeria. Brian Mwila has played 8 International games for Chipolopolo and has scored 7 goals. The boy is a natural goal scorer therefore I was very confident he would break the hearts of our West African brothers in Uyo. I am Zambian but my bet goes for Nigeria. Nigeria 4 and Zambia 1

  5. Do you zanbians dream a lot? You better wake up to reality than giving yourselves high hopes that will end you up on emergency hospital beds.

  6. Uganda never beat Nigeria. Check your records very well. South Africa recorded their first ever victory over Nigeria in a competitive match with depleted Eagles. The Eagles that South African beat is different from the Eagles that beat Cameroon. Zambia are just coming up. Pray to avoid being in the same group with Nigeria next time. Ethiopia said more than this last time, what was the end? They were beaten home and away. Just like Zambia too.. No team can match Nigeria in Africa if Nigeria is ready. You all know this…
