Bank of Zambia (BOZ) has donated K10, 000 to Habitat for Humanity Zambia towards the construction of two decent houses for two vulnerable households in Mapepe area of Chilanga District.

Habitat for Humanity Zambia has embarked on project to build two houses for the family of Blesswell Mweemba, 60, and Ruth Haanyongola, 61 of Mapepe area as an addition to the already built 3,700 houses across the country.

In a speech read on behalf of BOZ Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya, Deputy Governor Bwalya Ny’andu says building houses for vulnerable groups is in line with the 7th National Development Plan which addresses the issue of building resilient and inclusive cities in Zambia.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony today, Dr. Kalyalya revealed that Government targets to build 200,000 houses every year owing to the housing deficit which is alarming in both rural and urban areas.

“We are contributing K10, 000 towards the construction of two decent houses for two vulnerable households in Mapepe area of Chilanga District” Dr. Kalyalya said

And in an interview with Pan African news today, one of the beneficiaries Ruth Haanyongo who has lived in Mapepe for close to 40 years has expressed gratitude over the gesture and commended habitat humanity Zambia for the work they are doing.

“Am very happy for the gesture and this must continue” Beneficiary Ruth said

In the same view, Blesswell Mweemba has thanked the institutions for the help being rendered to him and his family.

    • Who is the owner of that money they are “giving away” ?

This is Taxpayers money! Is it the BOZ job to give handouts of our money? Was it in the National Budget? Or can any employee in this PF Government just decide to “give money away”? And if they do this to their relatives and friends it is OK? Is this what Mutati calls “FISCAL DISCIPLINE” ?????

While I agree that vulnerable people need support, is this the correct way to do it? Is it not another part of Government that is responsible for this? THIS IS HOW CORRUPTION STARTS!

Maybe Denny Kalyalya is doing this because others have FAILED to do their jobs. Or they have stolen the money earmarked for this purpose!

  1. Only K10,000? One decent house in Zambia will cost about K100, 000 so this donation a drop in the ocean

  2. I think at times we should organize ourselves to do manual work for the vulnerable in our midst. Hundreds of able-bodied people spending half a day working together on a project is more effective than giving out K10,000. How I wish political parties would organize their cadres for such worthy causes instead of causing chaos, insulting and threatening citizens!

  3. Boz as a government institution cannot be said to be donating any money because that money is the tax payers. It is therefore wrong for anyone to suggest this is a donation. People of Zambia wakeup. Like Apostle Paul would say to the Galatians in the bible, who has bewitched you such that you have now become bunch cowards afraid to stand up to those stealing from you in broad daylight. I mean Lungu and co. You stood up against other regimes like Kaunda’s, Chiluba’s and Banda’s. Is the present generation a bunch of cowards compared to their forefathers or it is a case that they are too dull/ignorant to comprehend issues at hand.
