Zambia and Botswana have demonstrated qualities of being true beacons of peace

The President of Botswana Seretse Khama Ian Khama says Zambia and Botswana have demonstrated qualities of being true beacons of peace and unity in the SADC region and the entire continent.

Lieutenant General Khama says the two sister countries should continue to advocate for peace and unity in the region for the interest of the continent.

He says the relationship between the two countries dates to the colonial rule and will continue to be strengthened through various bilateral and mutual relations.

The Botswana leader also announced that this is his last term in office and has no intentions of amending that country’s constitution to prolong his stay.

General Khama was speaking at State House in Lusaka today during commemorations to mark Zambia’s 53rd independence anniversary.

And President Edgar Lungu said Zambia and Botswana will continue strengthening the warm relations that the two countries share for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.

President Lungu said the two countries have continued to benefit from their mutual relations.

And President Lungu is happy that the construction of the Kazungula Bridge will boost trade between Zambia and Botswana.

Republican President Edigar Chagwa Lungu has this 53rd independence celebration awarded and honoured ten Zambians for their distinguished services to the Country.

At the in vesture ceremony held at state House President Lungu conferred the honors and awards in different schedules.

Among those honored include Albert Sakwenda who received the presidents medal for GALLANTLY while Anna Chifungula,Ambrose Chalabesa and Major general sikota Yeta are among those who WERE ONORED WITH THE ORDER OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE FIIRST DIVISION TO BEGRAND COMMANDER OF THE DISTINGUISHED SERIVE.

Others are Gideon Tembo Nasho Mapulanga were awarded with the Presidents Insignia of Recognition.

  1. They actually look alike these two if you pay attention to this photo. The only difference is the economic management nous and capability between the two.

    • He won’t be stepping down, he will be finishing the constitutionally inscribed
      two-term disposition.

      Note also that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party – BDP has a deliberate policy for
      the head of state to vacate office 1 year earlier than the term turn-around time.

      This helps them (BDP) to gain popularity mileage over aspiring political opponents.

  2. I am a neutral lawyer who wants to assist. Please note that attendance to independence celebrations is not compulsory but very voluntary, thereby no body should be blamed, ridiculed or brought into ridicule for not attending the celebrations – It is not necessary. With my little advice above, I would rather we concentrate on developmental issues

    • Attend to developmental issues on a public holiday? This is the type of rationalisation and thinking that’s getting us nowhere fast.
