Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba dismissed assertions that the family business investment of the Guptas, accused of State Capture in South Africa had moved base to Zambia.

Mr. Mwamba said the allegations were false and malicious and meant to attract newspaper headlines.

SABC was quoting a report from The Mast newspaper that had carried the allegations from UPP Leader, Saviour Chishimba

  1. For a moment there I thought it was Emmanuel Mwamba who just likes being in the news and was making an unnecessary media statements on the Guptas…but in this case, this definitely not his making or intention. The interview was supposed to be discussing Zambia’s independence day and he was being blindsided to discuss the Guptas. Well handled especially on calling out the interviewer on trying to make the Guptas the subject of the discussion. On a side note, it would not be such a bad idea to move the show grounds from where they currently are to a more spacious place like somewhere in Chisamba. Maybe that might be a start in improving the quality of the shows!!

    • @2 blabla. VERY GOOD OBSERVATIONS YOU HAVE MADE. THE FACT THEY LEFTOUT THE INDEPENDENCE DISCUSSION IN ITSELF MEANS THE VIDEO CLIP HAD ONE SIDED INTEREST- GUPTA.
I ALSO WONDERED WHY IT WOULDN’T BE A GOOD IDEA TO MOVE THE AGRICULTURAL SHOW VENUE TO CHISAMBA WHICH MORE SPACIOUS WITH MORE MEANING FOR THE PURPOSE. IN FACT IT CAN GIVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO THE SMALL TOWN TO GROW INTO AN AGRICULTURE COMMERCIAL CENTRE. AND WITH THE CONTRACTING OF PROPER DESIGNERS- THE NEW SHOW GROUNDS CAN INCORPORATE A LOT OF THINGS INCLUDING, THEME PARKS, SPORTS AND LEISURE FACILITIES, HOTELS, PURPOSE-BUILT ELECTRONIC FEE-PAYING CAR PARKS, MODERN BUS STOPS AND A BUS STATION, ETC. I DON’T KNOW WHY ZAMBIANS THINK SMALL AND TEND TO AGREE WITH A FOREIGNER EVEN WHAT THEY ARE SAYING IS CRAP. PLEASE, ENCOURAGE THE IDEA…

    • @2 Blabla, you are used to authoritarian governments that fall like a ton of bricks on reporters who ask probing questions! In other countries, journalists follow interesting threads in their discussions with authority figures. If the Gupta family were coming to capture our state in Zambia, don’t you think that would be a germane topic of discussion on a show where you are discussing Zambian state independence? In my view, High Commissioner Mwamba failed to unequivocally state whether the Guptas had any business interests in Zambia or not! My suspicions were not assuaged.

  2. EXTREMELY, POOR INTERVIEWING SKILLS ON THE PART OF THE INTERVIEWER. IT SEEMS LIKE THE SUBJECT OF INDEPENDENCE WASN’T TACKLED BY THE INTERVIEWER. HE WAS MORE INTERESTED IN MR GUPTA- WHATEVER THE NAME. MWAMBA’S ANSWERS WERE PROFESSIONALLY PUT ACROSS.

    • @4 Peter, your view is faulty. You are the same people who see nothing wrong with corruption when it is you and your kind doing it but who cry foul when you are not benefiting from it. What independence are you celebrating if your state is captured? Think before you post. Your kaponya ways have not been tamed by your international exposure? The High Commissioner did not answer unequivocally. He said to the best of his knowledge because he monitors foreign entities that apply to do business in Zambia. Really? There are many shell companies and companies whose true owners we don’t now which are registered in our country. The Guptas could be the owners of any one of those!

  3. Mwamba is lying Guptas are coming to Zambia. There is no business in South Africa for them. And i would agree that Zuma went to Zambia to introduce them to lungu. Zambia does not have stricter laws than South Africa
