UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says he considers it a privilege to be invited to speak at the Royal Institute of International Affairs at the Chatham house.
Mr Hichilema who has come under fire from some PF officials for accepting the invitation said Chatham House is a world Leading Think Tank based in London, United Kingdom.
He said several world leaders and some sitting Presidents have been invited in the recent past to speak at the Chatham House on issues such as International Affairs and policy directions.
“We are honoured to be invited too and give our speech at the same Royal Institute of International Affairs, and really we will endeavor to explain how our country can be a true icon of democracy, freedoms, remain economically strong and independent,” Mr Hichilema said from the U.K.
Mr Hichilema who arrived in London on Monday revealed that Her Majesty, The Queen has been the patron of the Royal Institute of International Affairs since her ascension to the throne in 1952.
He said the institute was granted its Royal Charter in 1926 by her grandfather, George V.
“As you may be aware, following an invitation to give a speech by the Royal Institute of International Affairs at the Chatham house, a world Leading Think Tank based in London, United Kingdom, we will as well tomorrow basically state our party’s priorities, role of the opposition parties in democracy among other issues related to good governance,” he said.
“After our speech at the Chatham House, we will then proceed to having interviews with various media houses that have invited us, we will again explain the vision we have for our country, Zambia, and how together we can move it forward and truly become independent on the lines of economic emancipation.”

I think HH has no right to talk about democracy when he became UPND leader without a vote and has refused to be subjected to internal elections to prove his popularity within UPND even after losing 5 times. The fact of the matter is that his tribe mates (I am sorry this may sound tribal but it is a fact) know that if HH was subjected to an intra party election and he lost to a none Tonga then they will lose the chance for a Tonga to be President. When people say HH will ‘never rule’ or like HE Micheal Sata refered to him as ‘under-5 politician’ , we should not run away from these two descriptions of him. HH has the fiscal power and to some extent, the numbers (Mostly in Southern, though) but he does not have the political tact to remain a formidable opposition. HH Should realise (Or be advised) that the talk of the ‘Petition’ will take him no where because even Muliokela knows that its ‘water under the bridge’ !

President Lungu and his ministers and officials address the UN, the AU, SADC etc. Even First Lady Lungu does that, she is also invited and addresses prominent American and world NGOs. And they do a sterling job!

Time will tell and time is a good school master! with the current trend of PF mismanagement, disregard of rule of law and rampart currumption the economy is going to blow in their faces and then we will see how long will the voters going to comfortable with tribal politics before poverty teaches them a lesson and bring them to their senses. HH will be voted into power out of need of change overriding tribalism – watch this space.
@46 Life experience, take my free advice, under5 us not the change that Zambia may need. He has too much baggage, like his economic team includes corrupt GBM as his right hand man! Also consider this, under5’s political career began with his annointment on the basis of only a tonga can lead a tonga “party”, and he has never denied this instead he confirms it periodically.
Simply put, under5 is not an alternative to any leader no matter how bad they may be, under5 is simply worse than any thing bad that may come on the Zambian political scene.
