ZICTA says it has put measures in place to fight cyber-crime

General News ZICTA says it has put measures in place to fight...

Zambia Information Communications and Technology Authority (ZICTA) says measures have been put in place to fight cyber-crime.

ZICTA Director for Consumer Protection and Information Management, Ngabo Nakonde said sensitization programs have been put in place to ensure online protection.

She disclosed that ZICTA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bank of Zambia to handle mobile money complaints and UNICEF to sensitize the public.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms. Nakonde said cyber security experts are working closely with the Zambia Police to bring the perpetrators to book.

She said levels of carelessness and irresponsibility of people on social media is worrisome and there is need to intensify protective actions.

Ms. Nakonde said cyber space if used correctly, is a good tool to help enhance business and people should take advantage of social media to market their business rather than using it to commit crime such as theft and cyber bulling.

She said cyber-crime is a crime like any other and invites a penalty of over 10 years imprisonment.

Ms. Nakonde has further appealed to members of the public and the media to help in forewarning people of this crime.

  1. When organizations have to write ZNBC to be featured on a program when in normal circumstances they can be covered without asking, should be a crime equal to Cyber bullying

  2. Can you itemise what constitutes cyber crime?
Is it disagreeing with political party cadres from a named political party or exposing a grown man doing things to a 15 year old in a BAB vehicle or pointing out that a certain radio announcer from Hot Fm unfairly criticised Mampi?

  3. What measures have you put in place to fight cyber-crime in Zed? As a security professional i do not agree with you (ZICTA) saying you have put measures to fight this crime. Fighting this crime is not easy in a poor country like Zambia. Developed countries like US, UK or the whole Europe etc are failing to fight cyber crime. If i may ask a few questions
    1. What measures have put in place for people not to be careless with their PII on social media
    2. what measures have you put in place to avoid people downloading apps with malware
    3. What measures have you put in place for people to stop using weak passwords or same password for all their online accounts
    4. What measures have you put in place for people to avoid clicking on links received in their email
    5. What measures have you put…

  4. I wonder what cybercrime they mean? Even social media blogging is included in this catergory…
They should be focused on improving the service being offered by Network providers.
