Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has opposed the appointment of Margaret Mwanakatwe as Finance Minister.
TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba says although Mrs. Mwanakatwe is qualified for the job, she is not qualified to serve as Minister on account of the High Court’s nullification of her election as Lusaka Central MP for allegedly engaging in electoral malpractices, a decision she has appealed against in the Constitutional Court.
He has questioned how President Lungu will fight corruption working with people whose seats have been nullified.
Mr. Chibamba says what President Lungu should have done was to fire Mrs Mwanakatwe and Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo whose seats were nullified by the High court on account of engaging in electoral malpractices.
And Governance Activist David Kapoma has expressed concern over the appointment of Margaret Mwanakatwe as Finance Minister, saying Felix Mutati was equal to the task.
TIZ are useless.

I choose to disagree with TIZ folks who have never opposed Mwanakatwe’s services to the country as Commerce Minister. We are alive to the fact that the Court decision on her election has been challenged in an appeal. As such, her appointment should be legal and binding until its disposed (I’m not a legal scholar).
Kapoma is showing self confusion with Government systems. The President has the constitutional mandate to realign his team anytime for many reasons that could include performance assessment and or strategic reasons. It does not mean that if one is equal to the task, teams cannot be re-aligned.

The President has more knowledge in running a government than those criticizing him. Despair is characteristic of the opposition in Zambia. There is nothing they can say to someone who knows more about running a Government than themselves. The opposition is just a collection of desperate people. Selfishness, abuse of power and systematic harassment of others are two of the most karmic actions. Horrific karma awaits those whose task it was to protect society but themselves willfully abused their power, indulged in willful transgressions and caused harm and injury to others.
Her appeal to the Constitutional Court means that she still reserves the right to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise as the case is not disposed of yet. As it is , she is innocent and in contention for any appointment. Is there any constitutional clause against such an appointment? I am amazed at how much energy and brain matter we have looking at the contributions on the subject matter, all correct in one way or the other. If this energy could be directed at the issues of poverty and under development of mother Zambia, we would a myriad of solutions to poverty and its off-shoots.
