Small scale miners on the Copperbelt commonly known as Jerabos brought the entire Kitwe city Centre to a stand still when they marched to celebrate the controversial decision to hand them back the Black Mountain.

PATRIOTIC FRONT KITWE DISTRICT THANKS PRESIDENT FOR HANDING OVER BLACK MOUNTAIN TO THE YOUTHS OF KITWE.

Tuesday, 27th February, 2018
Kitwe, Copperbelt Province

Patriotic Front Kitwe District has thanked Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for handing over part of the famous Black Mountain to the youths of Kitwe.
Led by Kitwe PF District Chairman Christopher Kangombe, the cadres marched from the PF Kitwe office into the city Centre singing solidarity songs.

President Lungu last week announced that he was handing back part of the old mine dump known as Black Mountain to the Jerabos.

The Black Mountain was operated by Nkana Alloy Smelting Company Limited, a subsidiary of ZCCM-IH.

A Chinese company called Tianjin Maolin Technology Company Limited legally acquired the slug dump from Chambeshi Metals Plc, which bought it from Nkana Alloy Smelting Company Limited.

Mr Kangombe who is also Kitwe Mayor said the PF in Kitwe commends President Edgar Lungu for releasing the 10% held by ZCCM- IH in the Black Mountain dump site in Wusakile to the Small Scale Miners in Kitwe.

He said the immediate impact of this important and timely decision is the creation of jobs for the many youths that have relied upon the mine dumpsite for many years.

“Secondly, the decision demonstrates that the PF as a party in power will always promote the empowerment of the Youths and in this case transforming illegal miners into registered Small Scale Miners. President Lungu is fulfilling a campaign promise because the many Youths in Wusakile and Kitwe as a whole have for many years being supporting the PF even when the party was in the opposition,” Mr Kangombe said.

“The Five constituencies gathered this morning at the PF office and through this statement by the PF District Executive do hereby re-affirm our support for the Republican President who is also the PF Leader. We are certain that in 2021, we shall win the election with our Presidential Candidate being His Excellency Mr. Edgar C. Lungu,” he said.

    • This is a bad precedent for a number of reasons first this lawyer president has abrogated his commitment to uphold the law by interfering in a court case.
Secondly he has legitimised the illegally , banditry, theft and hooliganism of jerabos these people are thugs period.
Thirdly he has now made these id!ots big headed and will now go on distruction with impunity!
Unfortunately this is what happens when you entrust power in the wrong hands.
Do you think countries like congo just came from the blues? No its poor leadership that brought about the misery!

    • But the same Lungu is selling off Zambia’s heritage and passionate possessions. What does KK have to say about all this? Next UNZA and State House will be sold to the Chinese and the tenant will be homeless. That’s how he loves money. Remember he stole from a client. Eddie don’t be silly and a mockery of Zambia’s great achievements before you.

    • The odds are against LUNGU. He has trapped himself in cobwebs and he’ll find it hard to disentangle himself. Listening to Emmanuel trying to defend Lungu and PF while talking on question time RSA I felt like the guys are in deep trouble. RSA only independent recently is overtaking Zambia on tg democratic front and we have bootlickers driving us back. There’s anger for truth and descency and you ain’t shutting no one up. SMELL THE COFFEE.

    • I am leaving that fuccking town. This is the beginning of lawlessness in Kitwe. Kitwe will now be turned into a crime city.

    • Bad precedent and encouraging lawlessness. The president has messed up on this because of the following:
      – That’s not empowerment np job creation.
      – PF cadres and the youth are not the only Zambians. Unless Lungu has reduced himself to the president
      on PF only.
      – We are a democratic country such initiatives should benefit all people despite their party of association.
      – It has serious health & safety issues, any slight mistake, people will die.
It’s a shame that an educated person can make such wrong emotional decisions.

    • MWATI HECHI HECHI NATEMWE FI? I AM PRETTY SURE UPND HAS EVEN CONDUCTED A FUNERAL FOR HIM AND HIS TRIBAL PARTY. THIS IS NOT WHAT HH WISHES TO SEE. NOT EVEN IN HIS DREAMS.

    • THIS WAS A BRILLIANT DECISION BY PF GOVERNMENT. NOW, THE JERABOS SHOULD SIT DOWN TO BRAIN-STORM THEIR BUSINESS (CORPORATE) DIRECTION AND COME UP WITH A BRILLIANT BUSINESS PLAN THAT SALES TO FINANCIAL AND POTENTIAL PARTNERS ORGANISATIONS/INSTITUTIONS. THEY MUST EVEN START LOOKING TO OPENING UP OTHER MINES SUCH AS IN THE NORTHERN AND LUAPULA PROVINCES.

    • Give thugs who do not even pay taxes to run free, what a country, these guys will start a civil war if not handled properly.

    • @James Buga, you are absolutely correct! It appears the President is authorising wrong things. He has already authorised corruption with his “ubomba mwibala…) statement, and now he has given the jerabos the “Black Mountain” disregarding the side-effects of his decision but for political mileage!

    • Coincidentally Kabila OF CONGO has just been to Zambia, seeing a friend in Lungu and seriously clinging onto Lungu because the net is closing in on the TWO. These are scared little men KK talked about at some point. Now KK has no energy to say anything, he just needs some quiet.

    • Black diamond!!
All those 5 in front used to be on most wanted criminals. Now walking scotch free.
      People at KMB bapumwa…

  1. Just how viable is this “Black Mountain” from an economic point of view?

Am I wrong to assume that while Chinese and other multi-nationals get the lion’s share of the pie, these so called “Jerabos” are rejoicing over a few crumbs? Something is terribly wrong with the African mentality – we are satisfied with less when we could easily get more.

    • The stuff contained varies from ordinary copper to gold. You should visit the Sabina Kalulushi road to see how many black mountain stuff refineries have been put up mainly by the Chinese to appreciate the value of the mountain.

    • Why should the jail boys ( jerabols) be the only beneficiaries of the Black Mountain. Their important stakeholders such as the local communities who have been impacted negatively by mining through; pollution – air, water etc, health, infrastructure – roads, law and order, regulatory bodies, MUZ, consumers. The School of Mines, which is supposed to be spearheading research and development in areas such as adding value to copper before it leaves our boarders. If I had my way I would channel most of the resources into developing opportunities associated with electric vehicles and renewable energies. So as to have noticeable immediate impact on the economy as a whole.

  2. You are deemed to be moron if you do something good and you are not a moron if you set buildings on fire, displace people in Namwala and assault them, steal money in a privatization scam, refuse to concede defeat in a free and fair election, instigate people to rise up against a government of the people by the people and for the people. Moron! Tribalism party!

    • Who did you see setting fire to a public building? And, if you did, did you report that person to authorities? If so, have they been convicted?

Anything short of the above, you are just producing hot air and adding to global warming. Please save us your contribution to global warming.

  3. Nina you have a point, l remember watching the Chinese making more than $100,000 on a rhino horn while the poachers get just $5000 which is peanuts. Looking at the magnitude of the crowd it might not even be enough to sustain them all

  4. Animal Farm! Mammals in the animal kingdom are not happy! They are gnashing their teeth at the president! Anyway, I have never seen anyone happy in that kingdom! Hatred is their countenance! Look at HH’s photos! Soon he will have Five Mansions! Not the current Three! – Three Mansion!

  5. @Nine Chale i agree with you, something is surely wrong with us African! Celebrating 10% while chocholi get the bigger share, shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cry my beloved Country!

    • @ Mwinenshima. They’re not cerebrating the 10%. Forget about that. They’re cerebrating coz they’ve been given the right to commit crimes. They will not allow the Chinese to intimidate them at the black mountain. They’ll forcibly grab the remaining part and will be raping women with impunity. The police already fear Jerabos so a presidential endorsement is a plus. that’s why they’re cerebrating. In exchange, they’ll be beating up and shooting opposition supporters and leaders on behalf of the president. Remember what happened to Miles Sampa at Ndola airport when the president was still in good books with the Jerabos? The president wanted to abandon the Jerabos after winning elections but has realized he needs them because of NDC.

  6. Ignorance at play. Even the headline is either deliberately done to mislead or it is part of ignorance. 10% shareholding in Nkana Alloy does not mean that the Jerabos can start mining 10% of the Black Mountain. The material will still be processed by Nkana Alloy. When Nkana Alloy makes a profit, they may declare a dividend. The Organization representing the Youths would then be paid 10% of that dividend! It will be their share of the dividends that they can use in any way they choose.

    • This only meant to sustain their lifestyles while they are still alive, these Africans you call jerabos will leave no inheritance for a lot of pikininiz they have produced on the copperbelt. Such riches don’t even make me flinch, they are buried together with the owner. This is the biggest African problem. Watch the children of the chinese and what they will do with what their fathers are investing in.

  7. Jerabo, a group of criminals terrorising people and stealing copper. A group formally recognised and empowered by a President who is a Lawyer.

    • Imagine. I thought Kang’ombe had a brain. Too much ambition can turn someone into a fool. This Kang’ombe thinks he can president of Zambia in future with that kind of behavior. He doesn’t understand how cadres operate. He should ask winter Kabimba.

  8. UPND is a group of anarchists planting chaos in Zambia supported by a chronic loser who has not conceded defeat and is a self-proclaimed “economist” – a privatization schemer.

  9. Well done ECL!!PF has already won copperbelt by taking this splendid move!!now HH and Kambwili must mind their movements on the copperbelt as these PF lovers called Jerabos may finish them(Kainde and CK) if they dare to misbehave on the copperbelt!!
I keep on reminding the opposition that if you think PF leadership will simply hand over power to you on a silver plate in 2021,then you are cheating yourselves!!BEFORE 2021,PF SHALL MAKE A LOT OF POPULAR DECISIONS TO PLEASE ZAMBIAN VOTERS!!EXPECT CHEAP SAUDI ARABIA FUEL TO COME BEFORE 2021!!
Come 2021 Kainde aluza again!!GO PF GO!!BRAVO ECL FOR THIS WISE DECISION!!

  10. Then we hear blind upnd followers saying nobody can vote for PF in 2021…..kekekekekeke…numbers do not lie….ARE YOU SEEING THOSE PF LOVERS?IT WAS A HUGE CROWD AND KITWE CAME TO STANDSTILL TODAY.WE SAW IT WITH OUR NAKED EYES!!YOU CAN ALSO WATCH IT ON ZNBC AT 22HRS NEWS.WHEREVER THOSE JERABO TIPPER TRUCKS WENT,PEOPLE WAVED PF SYMBOL ALONG THE ROADS!!
UPND must know that their Kainde is simply not sellable!!Many Northerners and Easterners simply cannot vote for HH come rain, come sunshine!!ECL IS NATUALLY LOVED BY MAJORITY ZAMBIANS!!

  11. More than 90% of those guys you are seeing above are Northerners and Easterners because PF is in their DNA!!
Where is Spaka and his fellow upnd blind followers?hope you are seeing and reading the good news about PF above!!
It is pure madness to think that the opposition will defeat Mighty PF in 2021 in Lusaka and Copperbelt urban especially after failing to defeat in 2015 and 2016 when a lot of miners lost jobs due to low copper prices and other economical challenges in urban areas!!
NOW ECL SHOULD FIND STREET VENDORS AND MARKETEERS TRADING PLACES ESPECIALLY HERE IN LUSAKA TO PLEASE THEM TOO AND IT WILL BE GAME OVER FOR KAINDE IN LUSAKA TOO!!
Indeed ECL is a very listening president!!AM HAPPY FOR YOU JERABOS!!

  12. @Kalumba alas Hakaluumba;do you know that your regional party upnd has NO MP in Ndola,Kitwe,Luanshya,Kalulushi,Mufulira,Chingola and Chililabombwe?this has been the case for upnd since 1998 when Mr Mazoka formed this party!!!kekekekeke…the whole copperbelt and Lusaka urban is under PF leadership and it has been so since maybe 2006!!SO FAR,POLITICAL INDICATORS IN THOSE TWO HIGHLY POPULATED PROVINCES STILL FAVOUR PF!!HENCE IN 2021 PF COULD STILL WIN THESE TWO PROVINCES TO PUT AN ICING CAKE ON KAINDE’S COFFIN!!
I cant wait for 2021 to see HH lose once more!!GO PF GO!

  13. Very smart and shady from Lungu, come election season, these thugs will aggressively be campaigning for him and he can use them as his minions. Typical Mafiaso move, I’ll help you today but you owe me in return. Get this criminal out of power but then it will be another vacuum for more criminals to exploit. I wish younger people would get involved in politics, maybe they can try something new and refreshing because Zambia at the moment is stuck in limbo

  14. @22 ihateweakleaders-impressive analysis. Keep it up! Most people (including some bloggers) do not see the complexity of jerabo-Blackmountain issue. It has historical, criminal, economic etc perspectives. ECL has just given it another political twist!

  15. Empowering a thug, trouble is back again in Kitwe…..certain things are better left alone.I See chile 1, in the pix, ……..

  16. The country is ruled by number one Jarabo .What can you expect? He has handed over the city to thieves because he doesn’t have a clue on how to run a city let alone the country.

  17. Dr ngosa …your comment does reflect much of the problems in zambia.
My question as this is considered mining do these miners have the appropiate permits, is the mining site delineated, are they subject to occupational health and safety rules set down for miners, do they have tpin, how is tax collected, do the smelters issue receipts for what they receive from these miners, do all these miners have verifiable documents as to who they are so that their responsibilities to contribute to the govt are traceable.
What is different to marketeers and these miners with regard to govt revenue collection

    • those are good questions! i doubt they have all those paper work in place, coz these are illegal miners from the word go!! but the big question is why have they been tolerated like this? gvt has no foresight, no plan for the poor young pipo and this is jst to win numbers in politics! POVERTY is the reason why pipo are failing to call a wrong a wrong but accept it to continue eating!! arent u disappointed wit some learned pipo in gvt who are busy singing praise en worship songs for EL, Dont u know the reason why?? Africa is not ready for DEMOCRACY, coz its not cheap, free and fair will never be achieved even with HH in gvt its the same!!!

  18. Looking at it from the Chiluba presidential era, one can safely say this is similar to declaring that the jerabos now have political desk at State House, same way Chiluba did with vendors’ desk. Time will tell. And without formal procedure for a permit, they were allowed to parade the Kitwe CBD. Such freedom of assembly is denied to opposition, come to think of it.

  19. HH said he will give this to jeras the same edge has done whats wrong if this ?hh you are in trouble copala wont be safe for u

  20. Dr ngosa, i havve a saying ,,,, poverty breeds corruption and corruption breeds poverty. How to break the cycle is the key to the development of africa

  21. Once they finish on the black mountain ,they will go for some assets belonging to Mopani .The number one Jarabo will then look away like he always does to any illegality done by his PF thugs.

  22. I stand to be corrected I thought Jerabos were thugs stealing copper which is already mined and when did they fit name which sounds like they are economically promoted to small business miners

  23. We are all Zambians and entitled to copper. Am not PF, but I fully support the governments support of local empowerment. Kudos to ECL
