Football legend Kalusha Bwalya has paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Gabon air disaster.

With a day to go to mark the 25th anniversary of the Gabon tragedy which claimed the entire Zambia National Football team and officials, Kalusha said he misses his departed colleagues.

“Today I decided to go give homage to my fallen team mates one day earlier. I wanted my full attention to be on my brothers rather than on a public function, he wrote on his Facebook page.

“A day does not go by that I don’t think about my family that I lost off the coast of Gabon in 1993. 25 years later my heart is still broken. A team that could have gone so far,” Kalusha wrote.

  1. Kalusha you are such adorable and refined football legend well respected globally. Thank you for taking your time to visit the site where your brothers are sleeping. You have accomplished enough and lifted the name of Zambia high. For whatever reason Charles MUSONDA is a disgrace. Welcome done Kalu

    • Who died ? How come I never heard about this ?

      What happened ?

      What’s going on here ?

      Thanks

      BB2014,2016

    • A great son of mother Zambia. Did the nation a lot of good in HIS hey days. Called for national duty always willing to come and assist. Scored goals for Zambia. Cheered the nation up. I am one Zambian who has a memory

    • Mushota shut your trap. You will die dull as ever. You are a disgrace to yourself, your family and the world at large. Stay where you are, don’t contaminate us here

    • On this one, I am with you Kalu to remember those fallen heroes.
I praise you for making us aware of this dark day in Zambian football history. It’s upon us now, each and every individual, to take a minute and reflect in respect to those great sons of Zambians.
      May they R.I.P

    • @Mushota, Zedians are done with your stupidity. Tomorrow might be another day bark about not knowing some ugly parts of your body.

    • Mushota or whatever you are called, at times it’s better to remain silent and let people think you are a f.ool unlike opening your mouth and leaving them with no doubt you are one. This attention seeking behaviour of yours is nauseating.

    • Mushota, I love your sense of humor! There’s is absolutely no need to chastise her for her posts. She’s just expressing herself. Maybe she wasn’t even born when the air disaster happened back then. Kalu you are a legend, hats off brother man!

  2. @Mushota. This is not one of those times. Show respect to Zambia’s finest soccer players gone before us!
    #long live Chipolopolo.

  3. Kalu the man who made Zambia really happy. I remember the then respected Zambia Broadcasting Services(ZBS) announcing that Great Kalu has arrived in the country for a Zambia game and how the morale of the nation could be so high

  4. I was 10 years then but still remember how that nation mourned its heroes! To this day I shed tears when I remember how Mother Zambia was left at a loss and without answers too. Kalu, you will always be a great son of Zambia and may God be with you as you have gone through more pain than most of us! #Mushota who are you and please just shut up if you can’t add positively to a conversation! What a shame!!

    • Which Dog my dear? Not my dog, because it is 100% wiser than Chi mushota… Icipubafye… Infected deseases best know by icimwine.

  5. K Bwalya, thank you for representing us remembering fallen heroes of the Gabon air disaster. They were true Zambian spirit. They left us with Beautiful memories, the way they spoke, the way they carried Themselves. Hard working, helped out team mate to reach his full potential…

  6. I remember April 1993 like it was yesterday. I was a ka young innocent teen then. I was in my bedroom listening to Radio Mulungushi (or was it Radio 4?) when suddenly there was a break in transmission and the announcer delivered the devastating news. It was a sunny mid-afternoon exactly like it is right now. This was Zambia’s 9/11, may their souls rest in eternal peace and God bless their families.

  7. We will always miss our heroes but one thing l know is that , they are in good hands and we shall meet them one day. Continue resting in peace our heroes.

  8. People should not even discuss politics on this day.. I get so emotional. I was at UNZA when this happened and I still remember the fateful day like yesterday. I am quite disappointed with Lusaka Times admin to allow comments from Mushota to still appear. This is pathetic and unacceptable.

  9. Thanks Kalu and thank you having being instrumental in constituting a new team while others thought it could be done ,you believed it could be and we cam 2nd at Morroco AFCON in 1994

  10. Mushota , leave our legend alone, Great Kalu thanks.i dont realy understand how these things work out but i MUST SAY THAT THIS MORNING I WAS THINKING ABOUT KALU,WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!!!!!!!,

  11. So the government no longer has interest in the memorial service of our great men who perished while on national duty. The great Kalu is indeed the true son of the soil who has taken time to pay tribute to his fallen friends. Imagine family and friends have abandoned the these players who died trying to bring glory to Zambians but the Magnificent Great Kalu has indeed kept his loyalty. May God bless Kalusha Bwalya

  12. Please people Mushota is a Troll! Just stop responding to her as you will be encouraging her to continue with her stupidity.#Do not feed the Trolls.

  13. I Remember that fateful day, sad as it was stressful day the whole country wept. But one question dominated the media, (Is KALUSHA BWALYA also died?) it was repeatedly on both radio/tv znbc station but the answer then was part of our consolations then and now. KALUSHA was not in that aircraft he was supposed to join them in Senegal. Ba Kalu remember your life is a blessing to Zambians Happiness, only God knew and praise be to God for your life and service to mother Zambia.

  14. If Mushoto is what you are writing why are you the wise responding to her comments??? Why not ignore her? If you differ with some you think is a fool then you must be worse

  15. It reminds of my father who a week earlier. We were in Kalyafye attending my fathers funeral. My brother Gilbert , a former Kitwe united player and team mate to the late Ucar no kalapashi, listening to Radio Malawi due to poor reception from ZNBC radio stations, just shouted baZambia bafwa pamo na Godfrey! They were like blood brothers when both were playing for Kitwe United!May Souls rest in peace eternally

  16. Maintenance for the structure where names for our heroes are placed is required.

Kalu you are legend. Thanks for taking your time to go and visit the burial site for our beloved players.

  17. “Comfort my people!” God be with you all! Kalu thank you for the leadership in reconstituting the team after this sad chapter.
