Kitwe City Council wishes to put it on record that the land in Town Centre were the Chisokone Market is located has not been sold to any person or company. The allegation that a Chinese company has bought the market land is not true and I would not support such an idea because it is against the principle of empowering Zambians.

The council has not had any committee meeting or passed any council resolution to sell the land to any person( local or foreign). The rumour should not be taken seriously. The local authority represents central government at a local level and we have no instructions to sell the land to any local or foreign investor.

The council holds the collective opinion that first priority for any upgrading of the market should be to benefit those who are currently trading at chisokone. Meaning if a Mordern market is going to be built, it should be to help those who have been there for Many years to have better trading facilities. What is true however, is the fact that the Chamber of Mines ( that is all mining companies in zambia) have offered free money to build three Mordern markets at Chisokone in Kitwe, Kapalala in Ndola and City market in Lusaka under their collective social corporate responsibility.

Just to remind the marketeers that Kitwe City Council has over the last one year, under my leadership spent over K 2.5 million in building new market shelters to improve the market and benefit the current traders aswell as accommodate former street vendors.

At a local level I represent a very responsible government led by His Excellency the President of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu which believes in empowering marketeers. I wish to report that I have engaged leaders from market associations 3 times this week alone to discuss how we can protect the interests of the marketeers in terms of ownership options when a mordern chisokone is built.

    • I find that quite offensive, he was my neighbor at uni, great guy, very ambitious and smart. Probaby is doing way more for the country than your arrogant attitude.

    • LET’S THINK OUT OF THE BOX.
      1. Build a Police station and camp elsewhere. around second class area to replace the one in town ( AN EYESORE)
      2. Construct a Modern Market where the Police station and camp Aero replace Chisokone
3 Demolish Chisokone Market and Construct a massive modern Bus and mini bus station and relocate all those myriad mini bus and bus stations all over Kitwe Central Business District
Kitwe will then begin to look like a City.

    • RIGHT NOW KITWE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE CALLED A CITY.
IT’S A DISGRACE AS TRUMP WOULD SAY

  2. Upnd propaganda, it wont work. What do you exoect from people who are in hallucination dreaming tgat they are in Syrua breathing chemical weapobs? Mukosefye selling your manifesto, immorality will not help your cause.

  3. It’s common sense, government can’t sell or lease markets. The fact is that in Zambian business places (markets)needs to be modernized and having proper infrastructures with adequate resources for our marketeers. With influx and booming of city trading let the coperate world help to build markets across Zambia. Furthermore, government should sensitize masses in good terms not using cadres, no wonder people make noise because of poor information between government and marketers.

  4. Honourable kangombe you re not the rite person to talk about land matters. The sell of land to foreigners is being done at ministerial and presidential level so we want honourable Jean Kapata to come and tell traders at chisokone the truth. To you my brother kangombe before you embarrasse your self consult honourable Nathan Chanda the moyor of Luanshya ask him about the maposa land wrangles where the government has sold over 1200 heacters of land in maposa without the knowledge of luanshya city council. So pliz let the people who re involved in this corrup activities speak for themselves.

  5. “At a local level I represent a very responsible government led by His Excellency the President of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu which believes in empowering marketeers.”

Such statements, where the name of the President is regurgitated at every opportunity is what’s driving this nation backwards. As Mayor, you have your own mandate and a big one for that matter. You’re not an appointee of any political figure. Stop this nonsense of wanting to be noticed by hero-worshipping an individual.

  6. “…At a local level I represent a very responsible government led by His Excellency the President of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu …”

I don’t think 42/42 , $67 million import of ZAF uniforms, lebanase of lamise takeover of RATSA is responsible…

  7. Ministry of HaNegatives from His Excellency the 2nd in Command of the Online Wing of Hooligans and bullies department of the Tribal Party!

  8. Chris God bless you Coz u re working hard every day, yes we want to see a new chisokone market
